Triple R Horse Rescue Tallahassee

We rescue physically or psychologically abused, neglected, troubled or abandoned equines in North Florida and South Georgia. We accept all types of horses.

Triple R is an all-volunteer organization. We work with law enforcement and animal control officers in a six-county area around Tallahassee, in Florida's Panhandle. (If a stallion needs help we will find somewhere to house him where he can be gelded and then transferred to one of our growing network of foster homes).

Today, on Juneteenth, we honor liberation and those who forged paths of hope and healing—like Dr. William Key, a formerly enslaved man who became a self-taught veterinarian and animal welfare hero.

With his remarkable companion, Beautiful Jim Key, known as the smartest horse in the world, Dr. Key traveled the country promoting kindness, education, and humane treatment for animals. His efforts inspired over two million children to sign his pledge to treat animals with compassion.

Meet Thunder. Based on his latest TikTok reel, he sure has a witty sense of humor 🍎😂 Thunder belongs to Annie Hunter, foster manager and board member of Triple R Horse Rescue Tallahassee.

Annie's an essential part of our all-volunteer board, handling foster intakes and check-ins. We are so grateful for her and all of our dedicated board members!

🐎 Friday Foster Update - Help Nacona Heal! 🐎

Meet Nacona, a 14-year-old Paso Fino who arrived at Triple R Horse Rescue Tallahassee in September 2024. She came to us underweight, with a facial gash and a wary heart, unsure of human kindness.

Her dedicated foster mom, Sue Jones, describes her as "pretty but wild." Sue is working tirelessly to help Nacona build trust, but she needs a safe, enclosed space to continue her desensitization training.

📢 We URGENTLY need a round pen (new or used) to give Nacona the structured environment she needs to heal. This will allow Sue to show her that human touch can be gentle and reassuring.

We think Buggs the donkey, one of our most recent R Horse Rescue Tallahassee rescues, agrees - flies are SUCH a pain to deal with! 🦟

Flies can become more than just a nuisance for our beloved equines - they can cause irritation, stress, and even health issues, but there are ways to help protect them:
✅ Keep It Clean – Regularly remove manure and soiled bedding to reduce fly breeding grounds.
✅ Fly Masks & Sheets – Provide a physical barrier to protect sensitive areas.
✅ Fans & Airflow – Flies struggle in breezy environments, so keep stalls well-ventilated.
✅ Natural Repellents – Apple cider vinegar, essential oils, and fly predators can help keep flies at bay.
✅ Strategic Feeding – Garlic supplements may help deter flies from biting.

Did You Know? Donkeys are more susceptible to fly bites than horses. Their thinner skin makes them an easier target, and biting flies can cause allergic reactions and discomfort.

We hope that this info helps to set you and your equines up for success this fly season! 🐎

As temperatures climb this summer, let's keep our equine friends safe! Horses can easily overheat, so be sure to:

✅ Provide plenty of fresh, cool water
✅ Offer shaded areas for relief
✅ Avoid riding during peak heat hours
✅ Watch for signs of heat stress: heavy breathing, excessive sweating, lethargy

Meet Freckles, Pongo, Scooter, Sandy, Smudge, Snoopy & Tank ❤️

Born on March 13th and fully weaned by April 22nd, these sweet puppies are now ready to find their forever families.

Dancing Cloud Farm Horse Rescue, Inc. is helping them on their journey. These little ones will come with their first puppy shots and deworming, giving them a great start to a healthy life!

Happy Mother's Day from all of us at Triple R Horse Rescue Tallahassee! ❤️ Today, we're celebrating that motherly bond and nurturing spirit that shines through in so many ways.

Meet Hope. This little fighter came to us as a tiny, vulnerable 3-week-old filly after sadly losing her own mother. She needed so much love and support to thrive.

Enter Miss Priss. This wonderful mare had recently weaned her own foal but still had so much motherly love to give. In an act of incredible kindness, Miss Priss welcomed little Hope and became her foster mom, even nursing her. It's never a guarantee that a mare will accept an orphaned foal or filly, but Miss Priss opened her heart and gave Hope a second chance at life.

This Mother's Day, we celebrate all the nurturing souls – human and animal – who provide love, care, and a safe haven. Your kindness makes miracles like Hope's possible.

✨ Feel Good Friday Alert! ✨

Meet Shadow. When he first came to Triple R Horse Rescue Tallahassee, he was severely underweight and needed a lot of TLC 😔

Fast forward to today, and just look at him 😍 With the amazing care and love of the Stauffer family, Shadow is thriving in his forever home as a .
