Maverick is being kept in a stall to hopefully prevent infection. But that's not how he sees it: He thinks he is in jail and ready to break out!! 🤣

Help us help him!

This is Maverick. He is a 6-year-old foundation Quarter Horse, who came to Triple R last month, after his previous owners exhausted their resources trying to help him recover from a prior injury.

We believe Maverick was kicked as a foal resulting in a broken rib. Recent X-rays suggest that the original injury has healed, but the area has abscessed a few times since, which we think is because something-- maybe small bone fragments-- stayed behind and are now trying to get out.

Maverick is a fighter-- he's fought to keep going through the original injury and he's still fighting, even as the wound is reopening once more.

At only six-years-old, Maverick should have a full and happy life ahead of him, but he's gotten off to a very challenging start that has proven difficult to overcome. Triple R is doing everything we can to fight with Maverick and help give him this future because we understand that he deserves a chance to know something more than the pain of his earliest years.

But with medical bills piling up, we can't give horses like Maverick that chance without your help. If you've owned horses who have had similar medical challenges, you know how quickly their care adds up, and as a horse rescue, we have multiple challenging cases to manage all at once.

6-year-old lab named Bear passed away from heat stroke after spending an hour at a Leon County Dog Park. The family is now raising awareness about the dangers of heat.

Little Buddy is ready for his Forever Home!

About Little Buddy: Little Buddy lost his eye before coming to Triple R. We don't know if the injury was recent or if it just wasn't cared for properly, but either way, Triple R had to send him in for surgery and the best aftercare possible with foster Jonelle Womble and her students at Fit & Sit Equine Services.

Under their care and attention, he has healed up, and he's ready to find his forever family! Little Buddy is a gentle and rideable 20-year-old gelding. Email Triple R to learn more about him!

Happy ! For rescues like our, every day is Help a Horse Day, and we couldn’t do it without you!

Consider helping a Triple R horse today. Here’s how you can help:

- If you’re able, please consider donating to one of our Forever Horses– remind them and their foster families Linda Kleindienst Bruns , Victoria Bruns Osmanovic, Cathy Stauffer , and , how valued they are. Our fosters are sometimes asked to take these horses on for years, and they do it unhesitatingly and with all the love and care that these horses deserve– for however long or short they will be with Triple R.

- If you can’t donate, please share our posts and spread the word.

- We also want to hear from you! Who are your Forever Horses? We’ve used this term all week to talk about the horses that will likely be with Triple R for the rest of their lives, but it can also refer to horses that are with us forever, in spirit. The ones who have attached themselves to our souls and won’t ever let go.

Tomorrow is , and Jazz is lending a hoof to help us ring in the day, as the last– but definitely not least– of our .

This beauty came to Triple R a few years ago in rough shape. Her advanced age and health issues—the vet says she’s very arthritic, and keeping weight on her can be difficult and costly-- means that she is almost certainly one of our Forever Horses.
Jazz is living out her golden years under the care of foster Cathy Stauffer and husband Stephen, who report that she is a sweet, yet reserved girl.

The Stauffers tell us the geldings love her– especially fellow Forever Horse Cannon! We can’t say we blame them!

We have another sweet horse helping us count down to today!

At 22 years young, Berry is on the Forever Horse roster because we think she’s partially blind in one eye and very spooky as a result. But with a little work and TLC from her foster Tanya Taylor, she could very well become a perfect horse for light work!

As a registered Quarter Horse, she has spent most of her life as a broodmare, so for now, she’s just enjoying her (relative) newfound freedom as much as she can. Though Tanya reports, she can’t help but to nurture the donkeys she shares a pasture with! She even watches over them as they sleep!

This sweet girl loves being groomed and bathed, and we’re happy to hear that she is spoiled rotten by her new life of luxury! We wouldn’t have her any other way!

is only 3 days away! And we have a very special guy helping us count down today!

Cannon is an OG member of the Triple R family. He came to Triple R in 2015 after being found tangled in barbed wire with severe back leg and soft tissue injuries. He’s over 30 now with arthritic front knees, a chronic eye condition requiring daily eye drops, and recurrent airway obstruction.

These health problems haven’t stopped him from living out his retirement to the fullest. He’s living the dream with fosters Cathy and Stephen Stauffer, who nursed him through his injuries and have fostered him ever since!

They say he is sweet, loving and kind, and he enjoys his diet of soaked alfalfa cubes 5 times a day. They also report that he’s in love with fellow Forever Horse Jazz! He even makes love noises at her!

Cannon has a long and well-documented Triple R journey.

On the first day of Help-a-Horse Week, we are bringing the Magic!
One of our newer rescues, Magic came to Triple R tired, thin, and shaggy.
But now he’s all cleaned up and the best of friends with his foster family—especially their 4-year-old boy.
His age—we estimate he’s about 32—makes him likely to be one of our Forever Horses. But he doesn’t let his age keep him from enjoying the finer things in life—especially meal time!

Triple R has lots of success stories—horses who have gone on to their forever homes/families and are living the dream now! We love sharing these stories with you, and we’ll keep sharing them.

But for every successful adoption story Triple R has, there is one Forever Horse who is still being cared for by one of our amazing foster families.

This week, we want to tell their stories. We want to introduce you to our harder-to-place horses, many of whom will probably be with Triple R for the rest of their lives.

Help-a-Horse Day isn’t until April 26, but for Triple R, every day is Help-a-Horse Day. So we hope you’ll join us in counting down to Help-a-Horse Day to meet these horses and help us help these much loved, but often less-celebrated Triple R horses!

Bella is checking in to say ‘Hey!’ And make sure everyone is having a good weekend. A recent adoption, she’s enjoying life with her new rider, Brandon Piland. Bella had to find a new home when her family had to move and couldn’t take her with them so she came to Triple R. Although 28 years old, she was just what Brandon was looking for. Sweet and gentle, she loves carrots and getting a bath. Bella thinks life is pretty darn good! Happy trails you two.

Little Buddy's week got off to a bit of a rough start-- not that you can tell from these pictures! After an unexpected trip to the vet yesterday, he's right back in the swing of things at Fit & Sit Equine Services's Spring Break Horse Camp, where, his foster reports, he is a fan favorite!

Triple R received a call last week about these two sweet boys, whose family made the difficult decision to rehome them after one of their humans died unexpectedly.

Luckily, we were able to connect their previous caretaker with a member of our community who was looking for donkeys.
Now these two are at a wonderful home, where they can graze with cows and LOTS of good pasture!

Many thanks to Triple R foster Tonya Taylor for her efforts in loading and hauling these boys to their new home! 👏👏👏

Sometimes we just connect people and equine!

Tucker came to Triple R early last year, and almost immediately captured the hearts of Ashley Kelly and her kids-- and clearly they have captured Tucker's heart as well!!

We are thrilled to share Tucker's success story, and so happy that Tucker has found his forever family!
