This hazardous chewy toy is a by-product of the leather industry, not the food industry (which is why most are labelled as non-edible and/or dangerous if swallowed). The chemicals it takes to make this unsafe chew, from start to finish, is staggering!

Replace these chews with safer enrichment treats that will also nourish your pet without the list of chemicals. In The Forever Dog LIFE we give you lots of easy enrichment ideas, plus we show you how to make edible 'bones' that you can customize the density, to make it as soft or as firm you need it for your dog's chewing style. https://foreverdoglife.komi.io

How would you like to eat cornflakes for every meal … every day of your life? Because, when you feed kibble, that’s what you’re giving your dog. Imagine the boredom of the same food … day in, day out. But the real problem is that the nutrition is so poor. Remember they used to say there was more nutrition in the box … than in the actual cornflakes? Well that’s true of a lot of kibble too!

Here are 4 important reasons you should stop giving your dog kibble ...

#1 KIBBLE IS FAKE, DEAD FOOD!
Kibble is processed at high temperatures. The heat kills what little nutrition there is in the original ingredients. So they add in a bunch of synthetic vitamins and minerals … then they can call it “complete and balanced.” Synthetic vitamins and minerals aren’t well absorbed by your dog’s body … and they can even be harmful long-term. So that means kibble doesn’t provide your dog with good nutrition.

#2 KIBBLE IS HIGH IN STARCHY CARBOHYDRATES
It has to be … that’s what holds those little kibble pellets together. Your dog doesn’t need starch in his diet. Starch creates an unhealthy gut … causing digestive and other issues. It leads to long-term chronic conditions … like allergies and skin problems.

#3 KIBBLE IS BAD FOR YOUR DOG’S TEETH
Contrary to what kibble makers tell you … kibble does not clean your dog’s teeth! The food contains no live enzymes or natural nutrients … and all those starches stick to the teeth … so kibble leads to dental issues.
Most kibble-fed dogs have to go under anesthesia every year or so to have their teeth cleaned. Most raw fed dogs naturally have clean teeth and don’t need veterinary dental cleanings.

#4 KIBBLE CONTAINS CARCINOGENS
This is the most vital reason of all to avoid kibble. Your dog’s food could be giving him cancer!

Kibble contains toxins … like aflatoxins, heterocyclic amines, acrylamides and PBDEs (flame retardant chemicals!). These are harmful chemicals your dog shouldn’t eat! And, by the way … these problems are just as bad in all kibbles. Even “premium” kibbles and expensive veterinary prescription foods!

So do your dog a favor and get him on a whole food, preferably raw meat-based diet. It might seem expensive … but you’ll probably save with lower vet bills!

Your pet’s bedding is freshly washed, a ready nest full of softness, warmth….and formaldehyde?🙀

If you use dryer sheets or other fabric softeners, that “fresh scent” left behind is evidence of volatile organic compounds, or VOCs.

Formaldehyde is one of the respiratory irritant VOCs common in fabric softeners, along with acetaldehyde and acetone. But there are many more - researchers found 25 distinct VOCs emitted from dryer vents when these products were used😱 Other common offenders include:

☠️pentane - causes skin and GI irritation

☠️ethyl acetate - on the EPA’s hazardous waste list, causing anemia, changes in white blood cells, and damage to the liver and kidneys

☠️benzyl acetate - absorbed through the skin and damages the pancreas

☠️alpha-terpineol - causes headaches and nervous system disorders

The good news is that your pet can have clean, soft bedding 🛌 without risk of coughing, itchy rashes, organ dysfunction and more! In our new book Forever Dog LIFE, we show you how to make reusable non-toxic dryer sheets that are good for you, your pets, and the environment, plus many more DIY solutions for home and body! 🙌

REALLY great article! Early life, prior to going to new home at 8 or 12 weeks, DOES effect the rest of your dog's life just like children! They never "outgrow" trauma
of a puppy mill or not being handled as a new puppy or being closed off from the world of noises before going to their homes! They bring those trauma with them and
always have them their entire lives!

Did your dog have a rough start in life - was he rescued, relinquished or did he come from a puppy mill? This study explores how early hardships can influence a dog's stress response later in life and their relationships with humans. Can early life adversity even have lasting physical effects?

I just stumbled across this post from a few years ago😢SO many friends! A diary with so many wonderful dogs that I've had the privaledge of grooming and still grooming! WOW🥰

It has occurred to me that Dirty Dawg Professional Dog Grooming, my complete official name, is going on 28 years in business.

The sad reason it just occurred to me, is because I recently had to say goodbye to 2 very dear dogs. Cosmo, Beth Yumlu, who was almost 17, whom I had been grooming for probably 15 years. Every 8 weeks religiously. I will miss going to Cosmo's house, without his owner's home, and spending such wonderful time where we had a routine. Cosmos, up until his last grooming (only a few weeks before he crossed the rainbow bridge) always knew that when I put him on the floor he was getting his treat. My fondest memory of Cosmo was the day he decided to make me chase him in the front yard. He usually didn't need a leash, but that day I wished I had put one on him. May you be running in the fields of daisies, Cosmo forever in my heart.

The second dog that I had been grooming since she was a puppy is dear Fritz, a white miniature Schnauzer who was Karen Carroll's family's second dog that I was about to groom for her entire life. I believe in total years I was grooming the Carroll's dogs for almost 20 years. I was around when their children were in high school, college, marriage and now grandchildren. Every 8 weeks for the last 20 years, it was heartbreaking to take Karen Carroll off of my grooming rotation. Fritz will always be in my heart.

Another family who has been in my life for well over 20 years are the Barbara Riddle family. First I groomed their dog Scooby who was a bichon and didn't like me too much and now I'm grooming Harley and Riley who are now in their senior years. I've been grooming them their entire lives. The Riddle family has grown before my eyes. First middle school, high school, working, marriage and now grandchildren and careers. WOW!

Many more families. The Lyn McDermitt family. I started with their miniature Schnauzer Maggie for many years followed by miniature Schnauzer Molly. So many changes throughout the many, many years that I visited the family every 8 weeks. Their son's dog Kassie also was with me until she passed, and Daisy who was their daughter's dog, a miniature Schnauzer as well. All in the family. I still enjoy grooming Miss Molly who will be coming up on 9 years.

The Zoe Lalos family. I began grooming beautiful standard Poodle Shadow from the time she was two until her sad passing. Than came Sabrina who is going to be 9. The Lalos extended family that I have watched grow through the years. The first human hair cut ,was grandson Nicholas who wasn't born yet when I groomed his family's poodle Tiffany. Nicholas decided he only wanted someone to cut his hair that he knew his whole (short) life and that was me, the dog groomer! So I cut Nicholas's bangs so he could see. That was before he was much taller than me. I know continue to groom Sabrina, Isabelle (since she was a puppy and is now 12 or 13), Teddy and Gemma.

A very special dog that I've been working with for probably 10 years, Zeke,
Lauren Brandt Hopkins, who became paralyzed and lost the use of his back legs. It has been a joy working with him, keeping him comfortable. His owner, Lauren is determined to keep him happy no matter what. Thank you Lauren!

There are many, many more but I want to mention another dear, precious dog, Effie Catie Lemons, I groomed her entire life as well. Effie was a very sweet sh*tzue who lived, I believe, 13 years. I watched the children go from middle school to adults. Discovered that my co-worker Angela Wegznek Owen was one of Catie's friends. It's a small world.

My business is built upon clients that keep me around! I groom dogs for their entire lives, Melissa Botello thank you for having me groom Cooper all of these years. Linda Simplicio-dorn love the girls. Debora Salazar Crivella thank you for Koda and Bennett. Sandy Rosen Kanner I can't imagine my life all of the past years without my princess Izzie. Pamela King I will never forget my every 3 week routine with Princess. Jean Hathaway Irwin I have been in your life longer than I can remember, first with Tribi and Cedric and now Oakley.

Too many to mention. 28 years is a long time to be grooming AND grooming the same dogs in the same homes for over 20 years. I've also enjoyed kitchen transformations making my job much easier. Also, several moves from one home to the next!

Many more long term commitments: Donna Headlee and Tica, Sandy Friedland Linder and your pack of 3, Kari Ellen Winik and Pearl, Calvin Lee and Percy, Holly LeVora, Risa Marschark Pegler, Holly Long Bentley, Diana Atfield Bosley and Olivia and many many more, thank you! Deborah Anderson and sweet Baker will be in my life for a long time! I have made many changes through the years. Owned a shop, using a truck, working in a couple vet clinics, only working weekends to name a few of my adjustments through the years. Thank you for adjusting.

From the bottom of my heart to all of my past and present dogs, thank you, love you all and appreciate being in your lives. I will miss seeing all those who are gone.

Don't bathe the dog, use this recipe first!

Don't bathe the dog, use this recipe first!

🦨 When your dog gets sprayed by a skunk, keep him out of the house!

Look for an oily yellow streak somewhere on your dog. Dogs are curious so they'll usually get sprayed in the face and neck area when the skunk decides your dog is a little too close for comfort. Towel off the oil as much as you can.

Then make up this effective recipe with 3 household ingredients:

De-skunking Recipe:
1 qt hydrogen peroxide (3%)
¼ cup baking soda
1 tsp liquid dish soap

Mix together and apply quickly to your dog's fur while it's still bubbling. Use a cloth around the face to avoid getting it into your dog's eyes. Work it into a thick lather and leave it on for about 5 minutes, then rinse your dog thoroughly with fresh water.

One round of cleaning might not be enough so if the smell is still strong, give your dog another treatment.

If your dog has:
* Excessive drooling
* Pawing at the mouth or face
* Redness or swelling of the eyes, nose, or mouth
* Difficulty breathing
* Vomiting or diarrhea
… your dog is having a reaction and needs veterinary care.

A Dawg Story

Dirty Dawg has been in business since 1991, following my certification from the Maryland School of Dog Grooming located in Silver Spring. I presently groom wonderful dogs in Montgomery County, Frederick, and Hagerstown in my home. Dogs are groomed in the comfort of their homes in Frederick, Urbana,Germantown, Gaithersburg, Rockville, and Potomac. Most all clients are on a 4, 6, or 8 week schedule which eliminates matting problems and the dogs are more comfortable.

Grooming in your home is for dogs up to 30lbs. Many dogs do very well being groomed at home, they are less nervous. Your dog needs to be bathed in a kitchen sink or a utility sink.

Another option, is to bring your dog to me in a private home in Rockville. Larger dogs are also accepted at this location due to using my hydraulic table.

Visit my web site for more details or send me a message!
