Marie is a 30 lb Cow Dog Mix. She is spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations. Marie is approximately 10 years old; she doesn’t hear or see very well, and kind of lives in her own little world. She’s very quiet, likes to walk around in the yard checking out her surroundings, and then she likes to come in the house and take lots of naps in her soft little bed. Marie has a good appetite, she looks forward to meal time. Because of her age and probable issues with treatment when she was younger, little Marie has to be careful with what she eats. She is on a special diet and she loves her food. Marie has a nice bed inside a kennel, sleeping indoors at night. She gets along very well with dogs and cats and actually doesn’t pay any attention to them. She’s not interested in playing with toys or other animals. Marie is house trained and very good about doing her business out in the yard. Sometimes she needs a little nudge and some guidance to the back door because of slight age related memory issues. Little Marie needs gentle, patient loving care, and a quiet, comforting, warm home for her remaining senior years.
We are pleased to announce that we’re offering free dog tags! Completed tags can be picked up from our Church St location on Friday and Saturday mornings. Let’s prevent unnecessary impounds by getting every dog in Baker tagged! Cats, too, if they go outdoors. Please note that the engraving tool is new and not as easy to use as expected, so these may not be the prettiest tags, especially while we’re getting the hang of it. But all it really needs to be is a legible phone number, in order to reunite a loose dog with its family. Thanks to one of our kind supporters, Josh, for helping to make this happen!
Tags are engraved with the dog's name and one or two phone numbers.
Anyone recognize this cat? He/she has been hanging around a residence for a couple months. It wont let anyone touch it, but it’s wearing a collar.
Or cat. If you don’t know the birth month, use their adoption month or your own birth month.

This absolute SWEETHEART is still hanging out in the storage area of our location on Church St. He just waits out there all day for someone to walk through and give him some love. He would be delighted if someone invited him to join a family. Someone who welcomes LOTS of affection.
TONIGHT!
Update on the feral-born kittens being socialized in foster care: The orange one is accepting belly rubs! The rest are curious about foster mom and purr when she speaks to them.

A follow up on this guy, since a number of people were concerned about him. He’s out of impound and VERY happy to be in foster care. Many thanks to a brand new foster volunteer for making it possible!
**Adoptable! 🐾🐾
This Uber friendly young man is looking for an indoor home! He will make an excellent family pet. He has a lot of energy and craves attention- so an active home with time to play or one with a playful resident kitty would be ideal.

Another outstanding job by Debbie, a dedicated rescue volunteer who has developed this special expertise. When trapping is the only way to rescue a terrified dog, she’s the one you need. She travels all around to help in the most desperate cases and could easily make it a paid professional service, but she does it on a volunteer basis, collecting only the funds to cover her expenses. She’s an invaluable resource to the whole regional area. We encourage you to follow her page, Dog-Gone K9 Trapping, and donate if you’re able.

Please let our brave firefighters know just how much you appreciate them saving animals in distress. They brought us a young calico mama, whom they rescued and named Sparky (another calico mama, not Lavender from our recent posts). Her babies were reported to have all died, but firefighters were able to save Sparky, who was understandably distressed. They brought her to us and she was placed with a foster volunteer who was bottle feeding half of the orphaned newborns that were also rescued from the fire. Sparky was disoriented but relieved, immediately bonding with foster mom and seeking affectionate comfort. While the foster began gently suggesting the fragile newborns to their potential surrogate mom, the firefighters called with a PLOT TWIST! Three of Sparky’s own babies had been found, and were rushed into town to be reunited with their mama. As they settled in together, foster mom sensed the right timing to directly introduce the four needy newborns into the love fest. AND IT WORKED. Mama Sparky now has seven babies: Coal, Halligan, Skidgen, Ash, Ember, Blaze, and Smokey. One big, happy family. All will be adoptable soon. From the bottom of our hearts, thank-you to foster mom Tessa, for the time and intuition she devoted to this heartwarming outcome, and to the fire heroes who believed these lives were worth saving.
❗️ H E L P ❗️FIRE EVACUEES - These are NOT adoptable, they are in immediate need of emergency care, just until the fire is contained enough for them to go home. Their owners are staying at the Red Cross shelter at the Nazarene church. They are currently in crates at the fairgrounds. Please help. Call or text 541-519-7387 UPDATE: we have a placement for the cat
Update: Foster care found! 🥰 ***FOSTER (or adopter) NEEDED*** Marie’s owner passed away in May and she’s been living in upheaval since. She’s approximately ten years old, very sweet, but timid. She’s great with cats and other dogs. Fully vaccinated. Foster care (or new home) needs to begin Monday. She needs someone gentle to help her feel secure and recover from her confusing loss. Please call or text: 720-325-0095.
Mango & Misty are feeling so much better already. Misty was refusing to eat but foster mom changed her mind!
Beatrice was a wild child just a month ago, but look at her now!!! Many thanks to Marcus of The Ruff House Unleashed, for this incredible transformation. And now’s your chance to adopt a young, healthy dog straight out of four weeks of professional training!
Copper thinks foster care is the BEST. He’s about 8 months old; a lab mix puppy found abandoned with his littermates outside town. He's now in a foster home working on house training and manners, and living with three other dogs, chickens, and equines. No cats or kids in the foster home but he would likely be OK with both after a slow and careful introduction. We're not quite sure what breed but maybe a mix of hound and Catahoula leopard dog. We expect he'll mature over 50 lbs - he has big webbed feet! He's sweet, friendly and playful and loves going on walks. Not leash trained but working on it in his foster home. He'll make a great family dog and has a lot of love to give. If you would like to be considered for adoption, please submit an application by copying and pasting the following into your web browser https://www.bestfriendsofbaker.org/adoption-application and a volunteer will be in touch
Domino would like to thank everyone who donated to his care! The fundraiser covered almost 90% of the extensive treatment, and his adoption fee will cover the rest. He’s resting comfortably in his foster home, assertively demanding treats and attention.
Atlas would make a perfect running partner! Also hiking, camping, etc. He runs exuberantly, but stays where he can see his person, running back to check in and celebrate every few minutes. He’s incredibly athletic with excellent off-leash recall. And he’s not even two years old yet, so he has many years of agile energy ahead. Check out his impressive stride, and tag someone who needs an adventure buddy!
UPDATE 12/27/23: His adoption was not a good fit, so Atlas is back in foster care again. He needs another chance with someone who doesn’t mind intensely attention-seeking behavior (or can patiently help him unlearn it). Congratulations Atlas, you’ll be spending a happily-ever-after Christmas in your forever home, with your very own dad.
