My sweet baby has been able to roam the neighborhood in KCMO but we are moving to Ottawa, Kansas this week and he cannot roam safely there. Back to a leash for him!

Some important things to know when asking for rescue help with an unhomed (feral or friendly) pregnant cat.

1. It is impossible to tell visually how far along a cat is. Your idea of really pregnant might in actuality be a small cat percolating 7 kittens who are only 4 weeks in the oven. Unless you know for fact when a cat got pregnant, please don't guess and pass it off as fact.

2. If you are asking for a rescue to intake a pregnant unhomed cat, please know that the members of this group who TNR to the point of exhaustion are absolutely going to tell you to spay the pregnant cat.

3. Spaying a pregnant cat is NOT the same as a human abortion. Period.

4. Spaying a pregnant cat does NOT make people a murderer.

5. There are over 500,000 community cats free roaming the streets of Maricopa County. There are PLENTY of unhomed, unwanted kittens. It is absolutely worth considering this when deciding whether or not to spay a pregnant cat. There is a HUGE unknown with a pregnant cat. It is unknown if her kittens will be born healthy. It is unknown if the mama will be a good mama or if she will reject them. It is unknown if there is inbreeding that will cause some big time issue for the kittens. It is unknown whether the kittens will survive. The kittens that are already on the streets needing help are a known quantity. Again, keep this in mind.

6. If you want a rescue to intake a pregnant cat, please know that it takes up precious space, time, and a LOT of money for a rescue to do this, especially if the mama cat is feral, ill, or injured in some way. On average, a rescue will spend over $1,500 on the pregnant mama and kittens to get them from birth to adoption. This will also take up at least a 10 week window of time. If you are asking for help, PLEASE make a monetary donation or try to raise some funds to assist the rescue. It is the right thing to do.

7. If someone is dead set on NOT fixing a pregnant cat, PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL IN YOUR COMMENTS. No name calling, no trash talking, etc... Attempt to educate in a truly helpful way. At the end of the day, it is the caregiver or finder's choice and if a rescue chooses to intake the pregnant cat, that is their choice. You don't have to agree. But we all need to be polite.

This is going to be a VERY long year of pregnant mamas. Let's do everything we can as individuals to TNR, educate, and come together FOR THE COMMON CAUSE OF HELPING SLOW DOWN THE NUMBER OF KITTENS BORN IN 2022!

This is why I could barely move this morning! 😖😬😥
Too much lifting has thrown my whole back into the worst spasm. 🤷🏼‍♀️ But cleaning and sanitizing is extremely vital to ensure the health of the kitties and eliminate cross contamination.

Thank goodness I’m off today so I can be well rested to return to work tomorrow morning. Pain pills aren’t an option for me, but a good muscle relaxer and Tylenol already has those spasms loosening up!

I adore my position at Help With Cats! It’s been my passion for the longest time and I’m still trying to convince myself this isn’t a dream! Someone pinch me please!!! 😉

Cassidy needed backup big time! With a consistent schedule for me to help cover her at the Help With Cats building, I can already see some of the stress melting away…. Just a little though! 😉😆 she’s a very busy lady!

I can’t wait to see, and be apart of, this programs growth. Leaps and bounds have been made in less than a year! I probably won’t even recognize the place come this time next year.

A huge thank you to The Barn House & Help With Cats! I’ll do everything I possibly can to prove how much you and this job mean to me. 😆😘 Because I ain’t going nowhere!

I am absolutely in LOVE 🤍🖤🤍 with my new job at Help With Cats!

It’s a lot of work, some of it is back breaking at moments bc of my awful bones/joints, but idc. I hope to be apart of the HWC & The Barn House community for many, many years to come! My love for rescue has completely been reignited and I find myself so excited to come into work every day!

I’m right where I need to be now and I couldn’t be more grateful for this opportunity! 🤗😻

Lilia is just too stinkin sweet! She played with me in between cleaning her kennel and we had the best time. She loves stick feather toys! 🪶 And that fur! Holy moly is she gorgeous!

Say hi to Dolly!!!!

This sweet girl is just like our male blue eyed white lionhead, Nashville. We are so happy to have her join our circus! They will stay separated until both are altered.

Dolly is very high maintenance compared to our male but I don’t mind it at all. She’s just 3 months old and has the WILDEST hair. I almost had to cut a few small mats out last night! 😬😰 But after 30 minutes of elbow grease and a variety of combs, slicker brushes, and de-tangler, we worked them all out. Thank goodness!

I’m so glad I have the right stuff to comb her everyday now because it’s a lot of extra work for her to sit there that long. Now it’ll take less than 5-10 minutes a day!

Nash & Dolly got the best bunny salad after their brushing. Neither cared for the apples, but they loved the thin carrot slices and green stuff!

So sorry for my absence these last several days. I’m trying my best to deal with all these blows life is throwing my way. A family emergency has had me distracted.

🌈 First, our sweet baby Raven passed away Tuesday evening. 😖😥 I had just returned home from an unexpected visit to Kansas and she just started declining. I was also very sick and needed some sleep, so Collin jumped in and kept her comfortable in her last moments. It broke our hearts but knowing we did everything we possibly could, helps take the sting away from it.

My grandfather also passed away today. 🥺😭

He suffered a stroke in November and was doing very well! Until he fell. 😖 My grandfather fell from his hospital bed and suffered extreme injuries which he just couldn’t recover from. He quietly passed away this afternoon.

I was so lucky to get the opportunity to go home over this last weekend to see him. He listened to me and mumbled back my name, he squeezed my hand so tight and attempted to joke with me. I think he knew it was me, even though he didn’t seem quite there. I’ll never forget those last moments I got with him!

All I can picture now is him as a younger man, driving away on his big tractor lawn mower and disappearing into the sun. That’s who he truly was.

I’ve had very few babies wean when they were still tube feeding, but this gal made the list. From the tube for milk, straight to dry and wet food like a big girl.

She has been extremely underweight for her entire life so far. Eating the high calorie wet food will have her growing big and strong in no time! 💪😻🐈‍⬛

Video update on Miss Raven, coming soon!

She’s a completely different kitten this morning! 😆😻🤗 I’m so happy she’s feeling a bit better, hopefully she’s ready to wean this week and get all this illness to go away.

Treatment is starting with metronidazole, clavamox, a nausea injection to encourage an appetite, dewormer, and some extra special fluids to give her sub-q. Supportive care continued and a damn close eye between me and Collin. Hopefully we have the stool information soon because the holiday will postpone receiving our results.

Collin has been such an amazing help with her. And I couldn’t be more grateful, especially bc my neck is getting really bad again while I await my next injection.
