We are having fun at derby the rain hasn’t stopped us!

When the rain finally clears and our riders get to spend relaxing time grooming in the field after dinner! Sometimes it’s about more than time in the saddle but creating a bond with a new friend.

RRH’s Tip of the Week! 🫣 Hide N Seek on a Horse!! This is a fun way to encourage independence, communication, decision making, and social skills! 💚 These are some of the therapeutic goals many of our participants have. Being able to meet our goals while having fun is another reason recreational therapy is so GREAT!

RHR’S Therapeutic Horseback Riding (THR) Tip of the Week! 👏🏼🤓

RHR’S first therapeutic group session went amazing last night! Way to go to Morgan and her team for facilitating! These boys made the best of friends while working towards their goals and building new skills! ❤️

Lessons!

Each lesson is catered to the individual and their needs and goals! ❤️ ☀️ For example, this participant is currently working on letter recognition, increasing her range of motion and strength in her legs, and strengthening the muscles in her core. So, with these goals in mind, letters were set up throughout the riding field, and she found the letters that spelled her name, all while sitting up and balancing herself on the horse, which allowed her to meet each goal! Nice work to Instructor Hannah and her awesome team, Karen, Grace, and James!

The mission of Rocking Horse Ranch is

to provide equine assisted activities and therapy to children and adults with a variety of physical, cognitive, and psychological disabilities in eastern North Carolina. The benefits of therapeutic riding and other equine assisted activities are well documented and numerous. Improved gross and fine motor skills lead to better functioning in everyday activities, which increases self esteem. Equine assisted activities also increase attention span, problem solving skills, and social skills to name a few benefits. Our instructors facilitate independence within a framework tailored to each participant's specific needs and strengths, while stressing safety for all participants.
