A season in our life has ended. The babies went to their forever homes tonight. I know they will be so loved and am excited that they will see each other often!

This was our last litter and it makes me think of all the babies we have had the chance to pre-love. Families who now get to enjoy their silly and sweet moments. We are forever grateful for the time we got to spend with them all!

The x-ray today was very disappointing for us. Lacy is doing great but is only having 2 puppies. I left that appointment feeling very somber. While I am so excited to meet our babies, the vet said that Lacy will probably always have smaller litters.

This confirms something I was scared of. I have spent years loving on our babies. Planning out time frames so we could continue our breeding program. We got to meet and form relationships with so many people who got the opportunity to get one of our puppies. As we left the vet the reality started sinking in - this will be our last litter 😭.

Small litters mean that the puppies can get two large to deliver naturally. Our first priority is keeping Lacy safe. Knowing that this is probably her normal means it is time to be done.

We are praying for a safe delivery - The puppies will be arriving in about a week.

Morning play time

The babies are making noises and starting to play 🥰. Then the take a nap for a few hours 🤣

One of my favorite videos from our very first litter. Tug of war between 4 puppies! I have been going through some old pics. It has been so fun to see my kids grow up with each litter. I will post more pics from past litters until our new babies arrive in August!

The babies are 7 weeks today. They have moved on to hard food now. They get moved back and forth throughout the day and have their play time in the pool. Our time is winding down so we are enjoying the moment!

Playtime this morning. I love just watching them it makes me smile 😊

Abby just asked me if I watched the video she took. Here is the fun moments she captured. Love our babies!

The babies are 6 weeks old today! Everyone is getting teeth so they are chewing a lot. They get each other’s ears, feet and tails and I am starting to hear whining so that is their first way to learn that bitting hurts. They have been wearing collars for a few days now so they will be use to one when they go home. Grandma (Izzy) is enjoying them playing in the pool since see can see them up close. The bell you hear in the background is the Tell Bell our adults ring when they want to go out. Since another dog was out, they had to wait. It is like when the kids are home and I want to take a video and tell them they have to be quiet 🤣. I think I took about 6 this morning before I decided which one to post.

The babies are 5 weeks old today! Time is going so fast. They are very comfortable in the big area now and are playing a lot more 🥰

The babies were 4 weeks old yesterday. They are supposed to be eating now but Mom jumped in so it turned into play time 😊

Puppy dreams - we had been enjoying his slumber for a few minutes and decided you might too!

Our little guy has finally caught on. I have been weighing him every few hours and he has been gaining every time! I will keep a close eye on him but he is growing fast now and up to 7.4 oz 🎉

We finally have a nice evening that the puppies can play outside. They are loving it!

What to do when you are the only puppy awake 🤣

Puppy playtime. The babies are so much more active now. They are starting to teeth and are getting more vocal. Until it warms up we are doing playtime in the pool.

Second time today was not as scary 😊. I should mention the squeaking is from an oil well in the orchard next door.

Meet our Family

My husband and I are blessed with 3 kids and have been married for 20 years. We live on a hobby farm in Byron Center, Michigan, and we grow Chestnuts! So, that is where our name Chestnut Havanese comes from. We are a home breeder and Izzy is our our beautiful AKC female Havanese. Her Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather are all Champion Show dogs.

Izzy is our fun loving little girl. We could not be happier with our decision to get a Havanese for a pet. In my opinion, and I am biased, they are the perfect dog! The Havanese is a small breed usually 8-15 lbs, non shedding and Hypo-alergenic. These were big perks to us as my Husband and kids are allergic to dogs. At first we thought it was too good to be true, but we have not had one issue! Sometimes a Havanese is referred to as being like Velcro – their love for people is exceptionally strong and they tend follow you through the house. Even though they are a little dog, they do not bark a lot and they do not require special exercise. Their breed is known to be eager to please and is easy to train. I have Izzy trained on a Tell Bell that she rings when she needs to go outside to go to the bathroom. Not only does our family love her, but she loves us! She is my baby and I love how I can go out to the get the mail and she greets me at the door acting like I have been gone for hours. Our puppies are raised in our home and are pre-loved by us and our 3 kids along with some neighbor girls who are eager to help.
