Great guy with a great product!

In the last few months, we've made an update to our Insectivore Ledge which allows it to hold over 800 grams through quarter-inch glass, acrylic, or PVC! Our previous version held 400 grams! Why do we specify the thickness of the enclosure? It's quite simple, each time the distance between two magnets doubles their strength is reduced by 75%. It's pretty common for other brands to brag about their products holding a couple pounds and they either don't mention how thick the glass is or they display it in on super thin glass which leads to false expectations and disappointed customers. We simply make quality products and sell them at a fair price.

I've got to give a shout out to Ryan Young Molecular Reptile . There's lots of people in the reptile hobby that are really great with a particular species or are really good at figuring out genetics. Ryan is consistently successful with both common and rare species of all different types. He seems to excel at just about anything he works with, regardless of how challenging it is for most hobbyists to be successful with them.

This time of year, it's hard to keep up with his hatching pics. I thought this was fitting.

It was certainly a lizardy Father's Day! Lots of skinks and fence lizards today! They really tolerated handling well, and seemed to run to us for "safety". Notice the skink in Joseph's shoe and the one that jumped on Chase's nose 😆. The first one was missing the tail when we found it.

In other news, at nearly 8' and over 20lb, Alfred finally decided to eat something after months of a breeding induced hunger strike. Of course, he ate a mouse.... so, basically, the equivalent of a potato chip. 😆

Nest box discussion:

It's that time of year again. In the past, I would have placed plastic nest boxes in my female enclosures about a month ago, and right now, I'd be hoping that they use them.

A few years back, I had 1/2" PVC cut to my specs (10"x10"x6") for long term "nest" boxes. I drilled an offset side entrance and hinged the lids. Inside, I put a layer of damp Eco-Earth followed by damp sphagnum moss. A box went into each enclosure regardless of species or s*x.

With boxes that are sturdy, secure, and provide ample humidity, they were utilized immediately. The design retains humidity so well that they only need to be moistened once a month or less. The substrate is only changed if one of my snakes defecates inside.

What I have found is the elimination of egg binding across the board and zero instances of females depositing eggs anywhere other than inside their nest boxes. The only exception was a rhino rat snake whose box was provided just around her pre-lay shed and did not get comfortable.

We pulled 19 good eggs from Lady Blackhawk tonight. She's such a great mom, but this season seemed to take quite a bit out of her.

The nest boxes I use are 1/2" PVC and are in each of my enclosures year round (male or female), with a layer of damp ecoearth and sphagnum moss. This ensures good hydration and secure animals, as well as a familiar place for females to lay their eggs.
