We hope everyone's got their champagne (or sparkling cider) on hand and you are ready to ring in 2022! While fireworks are prohibited in Anchorage, we still wanted to share these tips to help keep your furry friends safe during the festivities. Just be cautious when letting your pups out, as sometimes even a dog in a fenced yard could find a way to escape if frightened enough. Make sure your pets are on a leash, and try to limit the amount of people coming in and out, as a pet can run out an open door in less than second. Make sure your pets ID tags and microchips are up to date as well, so if they do escape somehow, someone can help them find their way home. 🐾

Here's a few more tips if you have a scaredy-pup!
🐾Put your pets in a place where they feel safe, whether it’s their kennel or a bedroom.
🐾 Play calming music or a TV show to drown out the noise
🐾 Thundershirts are a great tool to use. Ensure your pet is comfortable with wearing this beforehand. Practice wearing this and introduce it slowly.
🐾 Give your pets a special busy treat to keep them distracted, like a
Kong with peanut butter. Provide exercise and incorporate indoor enrichment
activities. Tire them out before the fireworks start.
🐾 Limit the number of visitors opening and closing the pet’s kennel door, bedroom door, and front door. Any open door provides a chance to run when scared.
