We were contacted by someone who caught a bunny today who’s been spotted wandering outside around their shop for a few months. At one point they witnessed this bunny fight off a stray cat. No one has been able to catch this bunny until today. His/her rescuer says he/she is surprisingly friendly and sweet and seems not to be scared of anyone. She cannot keep the bunny but plans on putting him/her up in her barn (no heat or insulation) until a foster can be found. We cannot take this bunny in without a foster. We also need to raise a minimum of $200 (and that’s hoping he/she is healthy) or spay/neuter. Please help if you can. Our current fosters are either full or bringing their bunnies back because they cannot continue to foster through the holidays. Anyone who steps up to foster this bunny should be prepared to foster him or her at least into the spring if an adoptive home cannot be found sooner. Apply to adopt at www.romeorabbitrescue.com

We are searching for volunteers, those interested in light construction and other building prep help, and those interested in ongoing bunny care! We’ve been working hard all summer to get our buildings ready to move our buns in from their temp foster homes they’ve been staying at. Unfortunately we’ve had set back after set back and with the holidays approaching some of our fosters are unable to continue fostering. One of buildings is done enough to house bunnies through the winter and we have this week only to prepare to bring bunnies back. We need help moving stuff around, to finish hanging steel ceiling panels, and to get organized with all our supplies. IF we are blessed enough to find someone with carpentry experience, we would like to get a couple small partition walls built this week. Starting next week we need volunteers daily for bunny care which includes feeding and pen cleaning. We are a 501c3 nonprofit so anyone needing volunteer hours for school or work can satisfy those requirements with us. We are also accepting donations towards construction costs and veterinary expenses. We have a tiered sponsorship program for corporate and private sponsors. It’s the perfect time of year for a tax write off! Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering, fostering, sponsoring a spay/neuter for a bunny, or sponsoring our project. If you own a company and wish to donate services, you can receive corporate sponsor status that way as well.

Huge thanks to everyone who has been supporting us along the way. These things always take longer than anticipated, but we are getting there!

It took a while, but in early September we received our special land use permit and site plan approval to operate our rescue in Armada. We’ve been working diligently all summer long to get our rescue buildings ready but with multiple major delays, they are still not finished. Our smaller building is close to being finished, while our larger building needs more work. We’ve been doing as much of the work as we can ourselves and that is another reason it’s taking longer. We’ve been meeting most weekends with our volunteers to work on the buildings but our volunteers are understandably getting burned out. Our home, which is on the same property as the rescue buildings, has also been under construction due to major flood damage, causing progress in the rescue buildings to be slowed even more. And for the past few weeks, I’ve been dealing with some significant health complications making physical labor very hard for me.

All of our bunnies have been in foster homes since we moved out of our Capac location in June and we told our fosters we should be able to take the bunnies back by the end of the summer. But that didn’t happen. Our smaller building is well insulated, drywalled, heated, and has electricity so we’ve decided to put off finishing it until early next year so we can bring some foster buns back now. Many of our fosters are not able to continue to foster into the holiday season. With limited space in our smaller building, we are also in need of new fosters. If yiu are interested in fostering, please fill out an application on our website at www.romeorabbitrescue.com. Our volunteers have been absolutely wonderful, but they are needing a break We are looking for new volunteers to join our team and have volunteer days this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, to get the smaller rescue building ready to bring foster buns back next week. I would love to pick up new volunteers, both those experienced with some amount of construction or DIY/handy man work and those interested in routine bunny care. This is what needs to be done this weekend:

1) We have a very few pieces of drywall that still need to go up so we can clear the drywall we don’t need out of the building.

2) We have 4’x14’ ceiling panels that that need to be screwed to the ceiling joists. I have one volunteer planning to come Saturday to work on this, we need one or two more to assist him.

3) this Sunday, the 9th, we need to lay rubber flooring down in the smaller buildings and then organize our supplies in that buildings to be functional for bunny housing and care over the winter.

4) If we have a great turn out and if it’s dry, we have a huge burn pile that we need to continue to move over to our fire pit to burn it. (I do not want to simply light up the burn pile as we do have animals living in there.)

5)) if we have a great turn out and people with experience taping and mudding drywall, this needs to be done in both buildings.

6) if we are blessed enough to find some construction workers willing to donate their services, we need to add joists to the ceiling of the pole barn in order to be able to attach ceiling panels in that building

7) on November 24th, ground works will be coming out to repair the concrete floor in the pole barn and we need to clear out as much stuff from the pole barn as possible to give them room to work. I purchased large tarps to set some stuff up outside and cover to protect from weather.

FYI - we have a few amazingly friendly, affectionate, and adorable rescue bunnies in our smaller building now we will need to work around and they would LOVE to be loves on by visitors while you are here.

If you are interested in joining our volunteer team, either for construction/organization/building prep, or for routine pen cleaning and bunny care, we need you! Please PM us.

We are a 501c3 nonprofit and have spent tens of thousands so far on these buildings and on permits. We rely heavily on donations from our supporters to make this possible. If you cannot physically volunteer, please consider donating if you are able. No amount is too small. Even $5 helps!

If you own your own company, construction, handyman, etc. and are willing to volunteer your time to help us get these buildings ready, your company will become a corporate sponsor and we will promote your business ongoing as well as give you permanent recognition in our rescue buildings by engraving your companies name and logo on our sponsors wall. Please spread the word to everyone you know. If we have a good enough turn out, we will plan to have hot beverages and hot food to feed everyone. Please PM us if you can help and we will add you to our volunteer chat group.

DRIVERS NEEDED! 🛻🚐
We’ve been offered free hay. Pick up location is Detroit. Pick up date and times are limited. Tomorrow, November 6th, 9am-12pm and 1pm-2pm. Our volunteers are all working during this time. Is anyone (preferably those with larger vehicles) able to pick up a few palates for us? They have 20 palates available and are offering them free to local rescues. PM us if you are able to pick up bay for us. Pick up would be in Detroit and then it would need to be delivered to Armada.

Thank you!

🆘👉🏻 This bunny was caught two days ago. The catcher has been keeping the bunny in a cat carrier for the past two days and needs it picked up asap. We were made aware of the stray bunny in our area prior to the rescue but had not acted on it specifically because we have negative space. By negative I mean we currently have 6 bunnies in our program being housed in our unfinished rescue building and we need THEM to find fosters asap so we can move them out or we can’t finish our building. We also have fosters who have been fostering significantly longer than what we originally asked up them. With upcoming holidays, they need to bring their bunnies back and our buildings are not ready for them. This is a stressful time for us and we litterally have no place to put new buns. We have taken in nearly 30 buns, mostly strays, since summer while also working on construction of our buildings. Four of our most recent intakes turned into major medical cases costing us a lot of money and we were not able to raise much to cover their medical expenses. But here we are with a stray bunny, recently caught, living 24/7 in a cat carrier and being fed only apples and carrots. How do we say yes when we are in the situation we are in? How do we say no when the bunny is in the situation he/she is in. We are asking for not one, but two or three or four fosters to step up to house this bunny and the others we have that need placement. We are also desperately in need of donations to cover medical expenses for Mama Peaches (congestive heart failure), Jelly Roll (severe arthritis), Hermione (congestive heart failure, several arthritis of the spine, eye infection), and Casper (arterial scheloris, severe mite infestations we are having a hard time ridding, severe malnourishment). I am attaching some recent invoices. Anything helps. To apply to foster, fill out an app on our website (not a volunteer form. An actual APPLICATION) www.RomeoRabbitRescue.com. Must keep buns indoors 100% of the time, house them separately from your other animals in a minimum 4x4 square foot space, and transport to and from vet and to and from rescue as needed.

This young bunny was found in a parking lot of a produce store in Madison Heights 3 days ago. The employees of the store were able to catch him/her and they are co raining him outside in this large box. They are feeding him produce. He’s been in this box for three days. It gets quite cold outside at night. He needs a home asap. We cannot rescue him without a foster. We need the foster to commit to a minimum of 3-4 months. We also need to raise $200 for vetting and neuter/spay. Please donate if you can. Apply to foster at www.romeorabbitrescue.com. Indoor home only, we provide xpen and supplies. Foster provides food, hay, greens, and litter pellets (the consumables). I’m told he’s friendly but cautious. Can anyone help?

We were contacted by someone yesterday who “caught” a rabbit who’s been wandering around the neighborhood for about a week. By “caught” I mean they corralled her into their fenced in back yard and are keeping her there. Her posture doesn’t look right in her photos. The last bunny we had with this posture had a combination of E.Cuniculi and arthritis. The finder is keeping her outside day and night and is admitting to letting her dog chase the rabbit, stating the dog is just playing. This rabbit needs immediate rescue so once again we are in search of an emergency foster and also asking to raise at least $200 to help with initial medical and care expenses. Help if you can. Comment a minimum of 4 words (helps with monetization) and share to get the word out. Apply to foster here: www.romeorabbitrescue.com. Be sure to submit an “application” rather than a volunteer form.
