We have had a lot of messages in the past couple of weeks about getting 2024 spots for coming 2 year olds and show horses that you want to get into a program! We specialize in reined cowhorse and all-around versatility ranch horses. (Cutting, fence work, boxing, roping, reining, trail, and ranch riding).
If you are considering sending us a baby this winter, or a show horse to promote, please get on our list ASAP as we are starting to fill up for 2024 and have very limited spots.

Custom Hat Cat will be attending his very first AQHA VRH World Show of his career next week in Guthrie! We could not be more excited about the progress this gelding has made and the desire to be a show horse that he has shown us.
Back in February we decided to take him to his first show and he qualified for both the Junior Ranch Trail and the Junior Ranch Riding!
Since then he has vastly increased his skills and has already qualified for the 2023 World Show as a Junior All Around.
Good Luck to Trump and Shane next week! The party is just getting started!

SunDoctor AQHA Stallion is also headed to his second AQHA VRH World Show next week in Guthrie, OK.
It’s kind of surreal to be carrying a Sire and his daughter to the same major event. What a blessing this horse is in our lives.
Sun and Shane will be competing in the Senior Ranch Cutting, Senior Ranch Riding, and Senior Conformation.
Good luck guys! What a blessing it is to even have the opportunity to do this.

What makes an All-Around Versatility Ranch Horse?
These horses have to be able to go through any obstacle thrown at them. From crossing water, working gates, ground tying, jumping logs, working ground poles, dragging logs or troughs, roping dummies, loading on strange trailers, carrying feed sacks or slickers, handling strange objects placed everywhere, backing precisely through obstacles, side passing with ease, performing 360’s in tight places with perfect foot placement, and more. And this is just trail class!
They then show off their transitions and movement in ranch riding class that asks them to go from one gait to another flawlessly at all speeds in all conditions. Sometimes inside sometimes in the wide open outside. Spinning, long trotting, serpentines, lead changes, poles, etc,.
Not only do they have to be able to do the above things elegantly, then they have to separate it mentally from the reining where they have run downs, sliding stops, fast spins, lead changes at all speeds, and perfect circles.
You may be thinking, well all of that sounds really simple…. Then comes the cow work. Cutting, being able to ride quietly in a herd of cattle precisely picking out the one you want and then holding it away from its friends. More than once! Keeping their bodies perfectly positioned to counter act every move this random different cow makes so that they don’t lose it and stay in position.
Next they switch their brains to be able to box one cow, take it down the fence (if you don’t know how skillful that is in itself I encourage you to google it), and then after all of this be able to track the cow so that the rider can get in position to rope it. After the cow is roped the horse then does a stop making the cow face it.
Last but certainly not least…. These horses must learn patience. Conformation class can sometimes last 30-45 minutes in which the horse has to be quiet and patient enough to stand in-Hand, body squared for as long as it takes for the judges to make their best decisions.
Everything listed above is what one horse is asked to do as an all-around VRH horse. The key ingredients to make all of these things come together are patience, time, heart, desire, and skill.
We are excited to be heading to our second AQHA VRH World Show next week in Guthrie, OK. We have one mare (4 year old) that is entered in the All-Around for this show. Meaning she can do all 6 classes.
It seems like just yesterday she was a 2 year old getting her first ride (late summer 2020). We are excited to see where her journey continues to take her and continue to be in awe of her ability to do so many skills with grace and elegance.
