My resent reflection😀
A few years ago now, I jumped off my horse and was walking in the barn to get ready for my next lesson, when the dad of a new to me student said with a surprised voice, You ride? Looking at him, not really sure how I was supposed to answer, I said with hesitation in my voice - yes. To which he responded and explained that he had never seen any of the daughter’s previous trainers ever sit on a horse. It took me a while to process this, and it has stuck with me all these years.
If I remember it correctly, I answered that I do all of this so that I can ride.

I am passionate about teaching , but if I didn’t ride I wouldn’t know what to teach. I’m passionate about learning but if I didn’t ride I wouldn’t be excited about learning new exercises and how to get a better feel. Riding keeps me wanting to be better all the time. I need to be better for my horses. To ride is stinkin hard!!

But sometimes we get stuck in the hard. The hard work, the hard falls, the people that are hard to deal with or the horses that are hard to figure out and we forget our why?
The other day I jumped off my horse after an average ride, not great but not bad either but the feeling that overwhelmed me was joy. It is so amazingly fun to ride!!! Horses are fun! The feeling when your communication with a horse works, whether it is on the ground or in the saddle, is pure joy! There is nothing quite like it! 😀

We had a great Mother’s Day weekend with part of our team at Dressage in the Sandhills in Pinehurst. Lots of personal victories, improved scores and some ribbons but best of all, a fabulous time with friends and our horses💜🐴

The end of an era

With these two leaving the farm we are closing down our lesson horse program for the time being.
It has been a good run. I have met a lot of wonderful people along the way and have had the privilege to see quite a few kids catch the bug temporarily or long term , I’ve seen them improve a lot and go on to their next stage in life. We have had a TON of fun! Memories I will always carry with me with a smile😊

The horses I’ve had,have taught the kids and adults, as well as me ,more than I will ever know. To them I’m forever grateful! 💜🩶

I will keep teaching the same amounts just a little different clientele. We have quite a few young horses in the works that will be learning the ropes of being ridden and how to be show horses in the next few years. And hopefully some babies too😊

If you were ever part of my barn family know that we always love to see a familiar face walk in the door. Fika is always waiting😊☕️🍰🫖🍦

Our beautiful OnTopp’s Silver Lining aka Roni is looking for a new perfect home. She is a 13 year old 13hh Welsh Cob ( not registered). She has a very sweet but a little shy personality when handled. She loves to go on the trail, jump cross-country and to have a job. She is schooling 1st level but the dressage ring is not where she wants to spend every day.Finished 7/27 at the War Horse Eventing Series Championship GAG 2021. This year she is qualified with a junior. She has been trained NH so walks over bridges, tarps and can all the tricks in the roundpen. She likes her showers, self-loads, enjoys to get clipped and loves her stretches. She is not suited for a beginner rider at this point. Thanks to all who joined us for the clinic with Christian Beier this weekend. Our Story

Ontopp Stables is a premier boarding and training facility located in Catawba just 35 minutes north of Charlotte, NC. Owned and operated by Daniela Leidy, Ontopp Stables offers boarding, a full training program,a show team, sales, and horseback riding lessons. Daniela Leidy has worked with horses for over 20 years and she is a USDF L Judge. Originally from Sweden her riding and teaching style gears towards creating strong and fit horses and technical riders that can go into any discipline they desire. As one of few instructors in the area she teaches both dressage and jumping. Although her own showing career nowadays focuses on dressage her students shows, dressage, jumping and eventing. She has in the past ridden with trainers such as Arnold Assarsson ( international showjumper) Petrus Kastenman ( Olympic event rider) and Jane Misseri ( USDF Silver medalist) . Daniela presently takes lessons with different trainers and regularly attends seminars and clinics to further her education.
