Help us in wishing the exceptionally talented a Happy Birthday 🎂 Alex is a wonderful example of why animal advocacy is so important. Not only does he continue to study and learn about animal behavior, but he gives his whole heart to every new animal and family that comes to him for support. When he's not volunteering his time at a farm sanctuary on the weekends, you can find him brainstorming ways to improve the lives of our canine companions. We are so lucky to have such a brilliant founder and teacher. Happy birthday Alex 🎉

First assessment of the year! We are back with an old friend, Mr. Bootsy from (and available for adoption!). We previously helped him feel comfortable during alone time, which he handles like a champ now.

This time our focus is on barking and lunging at other dogs on walks. Often these behaviors are labeled as "aggressive", but upon assessment we discovered Bootsy is just excited to say hi to other dogs!

We could distract Bootsy with treats, or suppress the behavior with punishment (sometimes called "corrections"), but we would prefer to address the function of his behavior directly. That is why assessments are so important!

Now that we know that the function of Bootsy's behavior is to access other dogs, we can use other dogs as our reward for more desirable (and lower energy cost) behavior.

This was a good reminder to not assume certain behaviors mean specific things. Also, why it's important to ask questions and then set up assessments to answer those questions!

Happiest of Birthdays to Kelli, and cofounder, and an all around amazing woman! Kelli is, and always has been a voice for dogs, cats, and every other animal (including humans!). She is an inspiration to all on the power of one person's ability to make change for the better. Let's celebrate her on her special day by sending some love to ! May you always be surrounded by dogs sitting on you and licking your face 😁

3 DAY FOSTER NEEDED TO KEEP BOBO OUT OF THE SHELTER. Please reach out if you can Foster a dog starting tomorrow, he will be recovering from alteration surgery and will need to be the only dog. If you are a rescue that can loan a foster for 3 days, we would be forever grateful to you! If you are unable to Foster please share his story, you can see a few reels of him on my page to learn more about him!

Aaaaaaaaand, we're back! We had fun, relaxation and sun, fully recharged to return to the grind. No other way to kick it off than a play date with and the boys!

We are forever grateful for and for watching our kiddos, if you have training or boarding needs, you can't do any better than them!
