Kibble Bases

According to Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), all foods have an Energetic Level, ranging from Cold > Cooling > Neutral > Warming > Hot.

As a general rule of thumb, a pet who runs “cold” will be lethargic, shivering, and seeking warm places constantly. These pets benefit from Warming and Hot foods. Pets who run “hot” will experience physically hot-to-the-touch skin, excess inflammation (itching!), and redness. These pets will benefit from Cold and Cooling foods.

During the summer, especially in Bakersfield, many pets will be “hot,” so they can be fed Cooling proteins such Whitefish, Duck, and Rabbit. Here, we’ve listed some of our favorite kibbles with cold protein bases. Swapping out their kibble for one of these blends instead can help alleviate those hot symptoms.
