Spent the day at an event for veterans. Rayne did great talking to people about the Happy Tails program. She even got to shake Senator Andy Biggs hand! Dan & Dot and Ken & Brandy were great ambassadors for the program.

Just received notice that one of our students from 2009 had passed away. Paul battled ALS for 20 years. One of Deuce's task was to wait for the command before he could retrieve his treat between Paul's toes. Prayers to his family.

Yesterday, Cubby and I attended the annual Happy Tails Christmas party. Cub was so happy to meet up again with all his friends, and get lavished with tons of treats, supplements, toys, and supplies, many of which he'll turn over to Piper. At the end of the party, he walked out of the hall where his cape was removed for the last time. You see, few people knew it was more than a Christmas party. It was also his retirement party. He's finished working now and gets to spend the rest of his life as a pampered pet. Thanks, Cubby, for a career well done.

Piper and his brother reunited this morning for the first time in almost a year. They sniffed one another and politely said hello but, surprisingly, they weren't all over each other like we expected. They began their formal service dog training this morning, a journey that'll last about 15 months.

Another one of our students passed away. Maryann Gallagher and her service dog, Cody were team #10 and graduated from Happy Tails Service Dogs in 2005. Maryann moved to Florida and stayed in touch through the years. She was so looking forward to being in a much better place and being able to see Cody once more.

This is Wendy's puppy, Piper. Piper will be in our next Happy Tails class.
Wendy said that she has a mealtime alarm on her phone, "Celtic Thunder's All God's Creatures Got A Place In the Choir". That song makes Piper jump and dance and twirl, all so adorable. He does love getting fed!!

This has been a hectic week. We had our annual Happy Tails Christmas party and I got the big surprise of 8 family members coming in from Colorado!!
Unfortunately several of our students weren't able to make the party due to illness. I went back a few years to make sure we have pictures of everyone included. Those who didn't make the party will still be getting some goodies before Christmas.

The Kansas City Chiefs defensive end George Karlaftis III will be wearing blue and yellow Canine Companions cleats on the field on Sunday, December 4, against the Cincinnati Bengals!
As part of NFL's "My Cause, My Cleats" program, these amazing cleats were hand painted for George by Greco Paintworks CEO Craig Greco. Karlaftis chose to partner with CCI after meeting first grader and graduate Patrick and his service dog, Julio. Make sure to check these cleats out during the game!
