Boots&Hooves B&H is a program at Crossroads Ranch to help veterans with the use of wild Mustangs - helping both veteran and Mustang.

Meghan and Mo have come a long way in 2 months! She has done a great job teaching him how listen to body language and have built a strong bond. We are about to soon turn him out to pasture with the herd and have started working on his feet.

Somedays you just have to sit back and let it go until you get to a point to where you can make a change.

Mo is starting to learn how to accept pressure and learning the role of pressure and release. There bond has grown stronger since halter training has started and he has become more trusting and accepting of touches.

Meghan and her Mustang have come a far way! They are now moving onto haltering and lead rope.

Her mustang has been taking everything in stride between gunshots for mounted shooting practice with our ranch horses, haltering, and fireworks!

She was able to remove his tag tonight and he accepted her touch on his neck and shoulder! We are excited to see their future!

We are excited to announce the start of our veteran and Mustang program with Sgt Meghan Hillard and her wild Mustang, 0144 (will be named)! They will be working together over the next coming months to build a bond and learn each other.

There are still oppurtinuties for both active duty members and veterans to work with wild Mustangs. We will planning on having several come on site over the year to begin their proccess of being tamed before finding new homes and continuing their adventures.

There is a reason we use horses (more spefically Mustangs). The smallest change can be sensed by them. Mustangs are raised in a herd enviroment so they learn how to read body language to the smallest muscle. If you ever watch a herd, you will be able to see the lead mare move the herd while the Stallion/lead gelding protects.

When veterans are working with Mustangs, they learn how to control their emotions, heartbeat, and body language. The Mustangs also learn how to trust a human and can find what is truly troubling the veteran without speaking a word. It is all about how you approach and interact that have either a better or worse outcome.

This is a good workshop to go to! It will be held next Tuesday (6/11) at Valor Ranch.

We are 1 week away from welcoming Sgt Meghan Hillard and her Mustang on to Crossroads Ranch!

Next Friday (6/14/2024) we will be picking up 0144 from Doswell, VA and bringing him back to the ranch. From there, we will be watching as their bond grows strong and the go on to do amazing things!
