If you weren’t in Las Vegas Friday night for the PCCHA, Super Futurity at the South Point Hotel and Casino, you really missed a great show! It was an unbelievable production. Before the finals, the arena lights were dimmed, a covered wagon with a campfire was on the arena floor with longhorn cattle all around. The Jay Parsons sang beautiful music with his guitar. A true western experience. Then introductions of all the finalists, and commentary during the event by Tom Holt, Dru Stewart, Anthony Lucia, David Costello, and Phil Benedum - it couldn’t have been better. We were cutting for $80,000 for first place. That’s a lot of money! Not to mention, the Reyzin The cash purse of $50,000 for first place. What a great venue thought of by the great man, John Echeverria, and put on by the Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association, held at the South Point Hotel and Casino. Michael and Paula Gaughan really know how to entertain us western folks! It was an exciting night when Russ marked 223 first up on our mare, Meet Me In Laguna. Then later, Lloyd Cox on Cover Girl also marked a 223. They held the lead to the end so there was a work off for first place. Congratulations to Lloyd Cox and Kathleen Moore for winning the work off. We’d like to say thank you to our help in the show pen, Morgan Cromer, Clint Allen, Austin Shepard, and Brandon Westfall. Thank you to our pit crew, Madison Plitt and Meagan Blevins for all your hard work every day. This was the very first Super Futurity, and mark my words, because it was so special and the payout is so huge, it’s going to be the next Premier Futurity. It already is in my eyes. Thank you all for such a memorable night.

The other day an employee captured this beautiful picture of “Muffin” who is now 20 years old. As I looked at the picture I reminisced about all that he has done for us and our family. Muffin was raised by Carol Rose and when Brandon was little he rode Muffin every day, so one day Carol asked Brandon if he’d like to have him, but on one condition….he couldn’t change his name 👍
Muffin went to every show with us for the next 10 years. Not only was he the cutest little buckskin but the best horse ever!! He won some in cutting but became pretty much a legendary using horse , turning back for 75% of the contestants at all the shows on the west coast. He won the Turn Back Horse Challenge in Paso Robles and did it with style. Brandon won the Alisal Ranch Horse class at the Santa Barbara Fiesta as a little boy (cut, pen, and rope) 2 years in a row (2 saddles and $2,000 both times) against all the local ranch hands. He was also an unbelievable heal horse too. When he showed up at a roping, someone would always ask if he was For Sale.
He has been such a treasure to us, we feel soo blessed to have him in our lives.
He’s still doing well and enjoying life here at the ranch with his buddies in the pasture. I thought all those who remember Muffin would like to see how he’s doing now ❤️

We couldn’t be more proud of Brandon last night, NCHA’s newest 𝙈𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝘿𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙧 𝙍𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙧! He marked a big 221 aboard Ripp Tide to take home the 3rd place check in the 4YO Open Finals!
