We got home safely last night following the Mega Show in Norman. It’s pretty hard to find birds worthy of showing this year between molt and loss from the spring storms. Living in survival mode has taken its toll on the typical love & care that they usually are given. I’m not posting this for a pity party, just letting you know it’s different this year. Hard to make a mark and be proud of things accomplished. ❤️

Pray for the people in Oklahoma. The storm systems coming through the past couple of days and ongoing have been insane. 🙏

I love this organization. This group has provided me support through my own kittens journey as well as loaning me unused cat habitats while we build replacement housing following our EF-4 tornado. Would you consider spending your coffee or energy drink money on this today?

The Manx kitten’s story is one that isn’t pleasant, but needs to be told from start to finish now that we have a final ending.

5 little kittens were born to a mostly tame, Manx mother named Bob on April 20th. Bob was an outside cat in need of TNR. TNR isn’t always pleasant. The satisfaction and joy gained in this work is seeing the transformation that occurs in spayed and neutered cats. Unless one has experienced the positive change, it’s hard to understand. The unpleasant parts prior to spay and neuter are illness, disease, suffering and death especially to the kittens.

75% of kittens born outside die.

This is a fact.

These kittens suffer greatly. We wish we could unsee what we have seen.

The mother’s suffer as well. Babies stuck with feet hanging out of the birth canal. Babies stuck to mom’s tail as she drags them along. Mom’s that abandon the babies after birth because mom can’t feed herself much less babies. Infected uterus causing sepsis and death of the mother.

We advise caregivers to spay regardless of pregnancy for the health of the mother and to prevent the babies from suffering. However, it is caregiver’s choice after being advised of all the issues and potential problems.

Bob the Manx mother became septic after delivery from an infected uterus. This means the babies were living in infection until they were born. Bob received a quite costly emergency spay to save her life, but she could no longer care for the babies. If people were not around to help, Bob and all the babies would have died, which most of them died anyway.

One kitten was born paralyzed in the back legs and died within 24 hours. Two other kittens succumb to the infection they were born with over the course of the first 3 weeks of their lives. 2 kittens, Paris and Smokey, remained and were raised successfully by Danielle Anderson. She poured her heart and soul into these babies. Paris, however doesn’t have a happy ending. Her Manx condition left her with with f***l incontenence. She pooped uncontrollably, had a chronic sore rear end, and would occasionally prolapse. She was humanely euthanized to end her pain.

Smokey finally went to his forever home this week. A small victory in the scope of the bigger picture.

6 cats. Mom and one baby survived because we intervened, but 4 babies suffered and died. Many will disagree, but these babies should not have been born to suffer and die.

This ordeal cost close to $2000. A simple spay prior to delivery at a cost of $200 would have prevented pain and suffering, not only the cats but also their foster mom. We hurt for her and can’t make the pain go away.

Please hit the donate button if you would like to help with costs and bring Paris’s ashes back to Danielle.
