July 4th and surrounding days often cause a huge increase in missing pets. 💔 Let's get prepared! Here are some friendly tips to help keep animals safe and calm during the fireworks:

Set up a safe space in your home where your pets can retreat to if they feel scared. Include their favorite toys, blankets, and calming music. Puzzle toys or long-lasting chews can help them stay distracted and happy.

Keep pets indoors. Get that long walk out of the way before peak fireworks hours, and secure doors, windows, and pet flaps to prevent any escape attempts.

Consider using products like calming collars, anxiety wraps, or pheromone diffusers to help ease their anxiety. If your pet has severe anxiety, talk to your vet about possible medications or additional strategies to help keep them calm.

Update ID Tags and Microchips!! Make sure your pet's ID tags and microchip information are up to date in case they do get spooked and run off. And check out HSHV's tips for finding a lost pet: https://www.hshv.org/get-help/lostandfoundtips/

Doggie Latchkey was formed in 2009 on the belief that we should never have to drop off our beloved pets at a kennel or a boarding facility. Our mission is to provide pet owners with a safe and stress-free alternative. Our in-home pet sitting services are tailored to the individual needs of you and your pets.

Doggie Latchkey offers full-circle pet sitting services, from a quick drop-in visit to 24-hour a day coverage, we are able to provide care in almost any scenario. We are not just a dog walking company, we provide pet sitting services for all household animals. Yes, even snakes!

Doggie Latchkey is a locally-owned and operated business that was formed in Oakland County and has expanded to serve clients across the great state of Michigan. Our professional pet sitters love what they do and are passionate about their job. Many of our pet sitters work or are studying toward a career in the veterinary field and dedicate their free time volunteering for rescues and humane societies.
