Happy National Black Cat Day! Black cats are often misunderstood and associated with superstition, but today is a great opportunity to celebrate how awesome they truly are. Here are a few reasons why we should give them some extra love:
1. Good Luck & Positive Symbolism
2. Unique Beauty
3. Great Companions
4. Overlooked in Shelters
5. A Symbol of Resilience

So today, take a moment to appreciate the special black cat in your life (or maybe even consider adopting one if you’re thinking about bringing a pet into your home). They’re not just mysterious—they’re wonderful companions and deserve all the love!

Got a black cat or know one? I'd love to hear about them!

Mondays with CROSBY!
Monday can definitely hit hard sometimes! If you're feeling less than motivated, it might help to break things down into smaller, more manageable tasks. Maybe just focusing on one small thing.
Like stretch, grab a coffee, roll over for belly rubs or listen to something that lifts your mood. It’s okay to have slower days too!

Dog enrichment is all about stimulating your dog's mind and body, keeping them engaged, happy, and healthy. Here are several ideas for enriching activities and toys that will challenge your dog, prevent boredom, and enhance their overall well-being:

1. Puzzle Toys and Interactive Feeders
Kong Classic: Fill it with treats, peanut butter, or frozen broth for your dog to work at.
Snuffle Mats: Hide kibble or treats in the fabric, allowing your dog to use their nose to find them.
Treat Dispensing Toys: Toys like the West Paw Toppl or Trixie Dog Activity Fun Box require problem-solving and keep them busy for a while.
2. Scent Work and Nose Games
Hide and Seek: Hide treats around your house or yard and let your dog find them using their nose.
Scent Training: Create scent trails by dragging a treat along the ground and hiding it. Reward them when they find it.
Find the Treat: Place a treat under one of several cups and shuffle them around, letting your dog guess which one holds the treat.
3. Mental Stimulation
Training Sessions: Teach your dog new tricks or reinforce basic obedience commands. Mental stimulation tires them out just as much as physical exercise.
Clicker Training: Use a clicker to mark desired behaviors, and reward with treats.
Tug-of-War: A great way to engage both physically and mentally, especially if you add rules or commands (e.g., "drop it" or "sit").
4. Physical Exercise
Fetch: Classic, but effective for burning energy. Mix it up by using different toys or playing in various environments.
Agility Training: Set up a mini agility course at home or in your yard using household items (like chairs for weaving, tunnels made from blankets, or low jumps).
Walking or Running: Take your dog on new routes or hiking trails to offer new smells and sights.
5. Socialization
Dog Playdates: Arrange for your dog to spend time with other dogs. Socializing can be a great way to tire them out mentally and physically.
Dog Parks: If your dog enjoys other dogs' company, visit a local dog park to allow them to play off-leash.
Positive Exposure: Take your dog to different environments (like pet-friendly stores, cafes, or busy areas) to expose them to new people, sounds, and sights.
6. Toys That Challenge Them
Tug Toys: Great for interactive play. Some dogs love pulling and challenging their owner, which builds both strength and mental focus.
Chew Toys: Dogs naturally enjoy chewing. Try to rotate different types to keep them interested and to help with dental health (e.g., bones, antlers, or durable rubber toys).
Wobble Toys: Toys like the PetSafe Busy Buddy wobble when your dog interacts with them, rewarding the dog with treats.
7. Create New Experiences
Rotate Toys: Dogs can get bored with their toys if they have too many out at once. Rotate them every few days to keep things interesting.
Water Play: Some dogs love water. Try filling a kiddie pool, spraying them with a hose, or even teaching them to fetch floating toys.
New Environments: Take your dog to new places, whether it’s a different park, a different neighborhood, or just around the block to provide new smells and sights.
8. DIY Enrichment Ideas
Frozen Treats: Freeze peanut butter, yogurt, or fruit in ice cube trays or in a Kong for a cool challenge.
Box Games: Fill a cardboard box with crumpled newspaper or packing peanuts and hide treats inside. Let your dog dig through the box to find them.
Towel Roll-Up: Take an old towel, roll it up, and hide treats in between the folds. It’s like a homemade puzzle!
9. Calming Enrichment
Interactive Relaxation: Not all enrichment has to be physically demanding. Using calming tools like puzzle feeders with softer music or a “calming coat” (like an Anxiety Wrap) can provide mental relaxation.
Massage or Grooming: Gentle grooming or a pet massage can stimulate your dog’s senses and build bonding time.
10. Chews for Dental Health
Dental Chews: There are many options on the market that also help clean teeth while keeping your dog engaged.
Rope Toys: These can help clean teeth and keep your dog chewing without being destructive.
11. Dog-Specific TV/Video
Some dogs enjoy watching videos or TV shows designed for dogs, often featuring nature sounds or moving objects. It’s a good form of low-impact mental stimulation.
Enrichment doesn’t have to be complex or expensive; even simple activities can be very beneficial for your dog’s mental and emotional health. The key is to offer variety, challenge, and fun!

Today, we pause to honor the brave who have served our country with courage and dedication. At PPR, we are especially grateful for the veterans who have made a lasting impact in our lives—and for the many who continue to serve as our guardians of freedom.
We also know the healing power of dogs. Many four-legged friends have been trained to provide comfort and companionship to veterans, offering unconditional love and support in their time of need. To all the veterans who walk through our doors, thank you for your service. You are truly heroes, and we’re proud to stand by you. Today, and every day, we salute you. ❤️🐾
