Important information if you lose your dog:
One of the First Steps we have those with a lost dog do is
"LEAVE THEM ACCESS or STAY PUT!"
The reason for this is that it is Normal Lost Dog Behavior to Circle Back to where lost even if unfamiliar with location, unless they are pushed from area. This could be by well meaning humans trying to contain the dog or other outside interference.
YES! This even means newly adopted dogs.
✳️The last two months our team has assisted these families and witnessed this first hand with:
💜Marley; newly adopted next day
🩵Kalino; while hiking 10 days later
💛Rita; newly adopted 6 days later
🩷Cinder next day
🧡Poppy; 5 days later
💚Max; new to neighborhood next day
💙Rupert; next day
If LOST FROM A HOME:
🔹Leave gate/door/garage etc open
🔹Scent Item:
-Bonded dogs: get scent item of their favorite human or favorite pet/livestock up off ground so the wind can carry in direction the lost dog left location & one laying on ground.
-Newly adopted/foster dogs: scent item of their own such as blanket/collar: up off ground so the wind can carry in direction the lost dog left location & one laying on ground.
🔹If possible set up camera with sensitively on high to alert when home
IF LOST AUTO ACCIDENT/WILDERNESS etc:
🔹Don't Leave: Stay where you were last together. Allow yourself to be the single beacon of scent to find. If needed set up camp & take turns with family or friends so that someone familiar is always at lost location.
🔴Please remember these steps should be modified and tweaked based on each individual scenario and recovery plan of action.
