Mr. Homer the goodest boy is back for refinement training with our Bootcamp program. Today we start integrating his skills into real life situations. Enjoy this time lapse of "place" while mopping and tidying up!
Why did we decide to do the #k9otetherchallenge ? Because we have noticed many dogs unable to get bored and just relax. We are often so concerned with providing guidance, enrichment, and stimulation that we sometimes forget to practice "doing nothing". This is especially challenging for dogs who are hyper active, impulsive, and constantly chasing that Dopamine hit.
Some dogs will offer a down willingly, others have to go through a cycle of practicing different behaviors before they get it right. This was an especially challenging exercise for Ciri - but everyone has to start somewhere!
Btw - the time lapse feature on your phone is super useful for this training project!

Slow-mo puppy recall! 💜🥰💜
Recall
✋ Stop nagging your dog! The recall is a 3 part sequence: name, move, and arrive. Make sure you work those steps!
Cadence worked on the weaves today in agility class. We are using the clicker to mark her crossing the center line. We were so happy to meet between showers! Way to go Cadie!
Using selfie mode can be super useful in proofing your dog's commands! Campbell was rocking it at Rady Park!
Scavenging for kibble in the crate is a great way to help your pup see confinement as a positive experience! Plus it provides mental stimulation and enrichment! Something as simple as scattering kibble can be super productive and gives your dog something to DO.

Nosey the Vizsla being awesome for his human doing directional retrieves. This is only his 3 lesson introducing bird dog training. We have been working on the pickup, hold, and incorporating various bird dummies with odor into his training. Kudos to his Mom for doing all the practice between lessons!

Timelapse of Mako doing Rally in our big room since it’s so dark and rainy out tonight. He’s done agility, some confidence building exercises, and now Rally as part of his Sleepaway Camp experience.
😃 Since 5:30am I have been working hard to beat the heat and set up our new pool! I have moved 25 bags of sand, 16 pavers, and assembled the structure!
😀 This pool is to help get dogs acclimated to water, teach swimming, and eventually the first step in dock diving (dock to be built, but not enough room to launch).
We will have to have a few rules to ensure our pool stays safe for everyone.
⚠️ Dogs must have short nails (clipped and worn down, or dremmelled so we minimize tears… no sharp nails)
⚠️ No dogs with hot spots, skin infections, or lesions
⚠️ Newbies will have to wear life vests initially to help gain strength while swimming
⚠️ If your dog is excessively shedding or blowing coat, it will clog the filter (and make it super unpleasant for anyone else using the pool), so make sure they have had a good bath and blow-out for double coated breeds before entering
🏖 Happy swimming 🌊
Sometimes we get asked “if it rains, why don’t you just use the pavilion” … and the answer is … because it’s not actually that helpful. Today during a private lesson, the thunder rolled in, the clouds bunched up, and we were met with a torrential downpour.
The weather channel doppler said … no rain, yet the forecast said 60% chance of rain.
NOAA (weather.gov) radar said … no rain, and 70% chance of rain in the forecast.
So, when we hold outdoor classes, we try to make reasonable accommodations for our participants - but we simply do not control the weather. It sucks, for everyone, but especially during thunderstorms - we sometimes have to make decisions for the safety of everyone, and postpone.
