RESCUED! Thank you for Pitching In (Donation link below)
ARCHIE and CHASE are out of the Shelter and on their way to us. Thank you STEVE SANDALIS for spending your Sunday helping save the lives of these two beautiful Akitas.
Archie #A5616917 and Chase #A5616912 were surrendered after they got into a scuffle with the next door neighbor's 3 chihuahua's. It's a shame that people can't manage to contain their dogs on their own property. It's sadder when the bigger dog's lose their home or their lives for being dogs.
We are incredibly thankful to the entire staff at the LA County Department of Animal Care and Control. The staff at the Lancaster Shelter investigated the circumstances surrounding the incident.
We are also incredibly grateful for the entire team at the LA County DDIU (Dangerous Dog Investigation Unit) who took it a step further and conducted a thorough investigation of the incident which CLEARED Archie and Chase of any wrongdoing.
***** Investigations include, at a minimum: Interviewing all parties involved (both the owners of the Akitas and the Chi's); Physical inspection of the property of both dog owner's, etc. In the end, DDIU unit found that the statements didn't match up and onsite physical inspections of the properties resulted in more questions than answers about how two Akitas - separated by a 5+ foot concrete block wall, could came into contact with the three chihuahua's next door. ****
To be clear: Both Archie and Chase were NOT found to be a PDA/Potentially Dangerous Animal, or worse, and they were both released to us, a breed-specific rescue and Adoption Partner.
We appreciate donations to offset their expenses: Transport, Boarding, Veterinary, etc.
Please use ONLY the following methods for donations.

EMERGENCY PLEA:
LOBO A5611058 (@ the L.A. County Downey Shelter)
** PLEASE SHARE **
( Imminent Danger of Euthanasia ).
HOARDERS and HOARDING cases affect other dogs, good dogs, sweet dogs, great companion and family dogs. How? Why? Dogs seized during HOARDS must be held as EVIDENCE and room has to be made to house EVIDENCE dogs. Yet ANOTHER RECENT HOARDING CASE has impacted this shelter in Southern Calif.
Please help. This boy is breaking us. Sweet Lobo (Wolf) was dumped in the parking lot of a Southern California shelter. His former owner didn’t even bother to walk him into the shelter.
From the ACO who found him:
“He was so mellow - just walked right up to me and I did his intake; he was very calm, sweet, and non reactive during all our vaccines and intake process.” Lobo is just 5 years old, but is a kind, old soul. He sits quietly in his kennel - watching everything going on around him. I’ve never heard him bark, not once! He walks great on leash and is completely non reactive towards other dogs around him. Lobo appears to be healthy / no medical conditions noted. "
I look at this face, these eyes. He is so calm. So patient. Is it resignation that he has been betrayed by his former owner? Or has he accepted that his life is coming to an end.
PLEASE - do NOT, DO NOT BLAME THE SHELTER. The staff at the shelters HATE, ABSOLUTELY HATE this AS DO WE. What can anyone do. Too many dogs, bad people breeding dogs! bad rescues doing bad sh*t like pulling dogs and stacking them up (HOARDING) with no plan or place and leaving their boarding facilities with a big, fat unpaid bill. They walk away, and dogs, good dogs, sweet dogs like LOBO, die because there is not enough space, or not enough time for each dog to get the attention they need.
He is LOCATED at: LOS ANGELES COUNTY DOWNEY Shelter.
He is AVAILABLE for public adoption NOW.
This is his Final 48 hour EMERGENCY PLEA: 💔 He will be euthanized in the next 48 hours.
If you are able to h

Ashley and Gus Gus Pupdate
This young power couple is through Memphis, Tennessee and ETA at HOME is tonight!
This morning, Gus Gus dramatically quit his job (as Co Pilot and Navigator) by tearing up the map and a puppy pad. All jokes aside, a 40 hour drive across the US is NOT easy for anyone, much less a pup.
GoAshley! Go Gus Gus! #love
ADOPTED! Baby Gus Gus is heading for the East Coast.
Weeks in the making .... Baby Angus, aka "Gus Gus", has his forever and ever and ever home. Ashley, a Veterinary Technician who lives just outside Baltimore, Maryland, got on a plane this morning and landed at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) this afternoon. After a long, LONG flight on a very small plane, Ashley picked up the car she reserved and three hours later, pulled up to our house. I put little Gus Gus down on the driveway and he immediately ran towards her, his little black furry booty happily bouncing with each step, and he rushed into Ashley's arms. The two of us… we were tearing up. This video ... sort of unplanned ... captures the true essence of RESPONSIBLE RESCUE.
From the first time we posted Gus Gus until even today, we have received almost 40 inquiries on him. Quite a few. Was it his unique, all black color (with just a tinge of white here and there?) or his smug, proud poses which really was just a facade for the happy, alert, smart, curious and loving puppy he really is. He still ... seriously ... looks like an Akita, but DNA showed he is almost 50% Alaskan Husky and 50% Chow Chow. Seeing how he had changed over the past few weeks with Andre Ford, his Fiance Susie Foth, Andre Ford Jr., his fiance Ashley, and Susie's boys Drew and Bradley -- and let's not forget their little furry pack comprised of Tippet, a 1 year old female Akita, and Owens, a now 2 year old Golden Retriever, Gus Gus had started to assert his little self and become more vocal, giving a few soft yodels at Dr. Ron’s earlier today.
People might think ... why her? Why adopt a dog to someone out of state when I'm right here in California. The answer is simple: We will always, ALWAYS put THE DOG's best interest FIRST, and a prospective-adopter-Human's wants and wishes second. Somewhere those needs and wants must meet in the middle. Dogs in rescue, no matter how young they come in, have already been let down by their
Good Morning from BUBBA the Beasty Boy in Kansas!
He doesn't know it yet, but he is going to go on an ADVENTURE in a few days... Until then, he continues to be spoiled with an occasional treat from the local McD's. Stay tuned ..... Awwwoooo
I like Big Butts and I cannot lie! This one, is without a doubt, the biggest little butt we’ve had in rescue in a while and he is a DOLL!! We are taking applications for Goliath and the goal is not to place him in a home but to place him in the right home. So, if you are interested in adopting him, please complete an application (available on our website) asap. We will always consider out of area/state adopters but please know, we do not ship dogs. He is located in Southern California.
This beautiful Southern California Sunday morning is made better by this video of Tanjiro, who after spending more than two months at the vet for two broken forelegs, is clearly jumping for joy. Thank you all for donating to this boy’s care, for helping make this moment happen and for giving him a new lease on life.
The long wait is over .... but it was WORTH it....
ZAK and CHILL were ADOPTED this morning!
It was on Dec. 1 that we received an email asking for help - their Human had passed suddenly a week before. Adoptions have been slow and it's oftentimes harder to place a PAIR, but we made it happen. We shared their story and you shared it. It found their way to a lovely couple in Northern California and after much screening and conversation, the plans were made. They started the 8+ hour drive yesterday morning to Southern California, met and spent time with Zak and Chill, stayed overnight locally to rest up, and this morning, started the long journey home with their new furry family members.
We cannot remind you, enough, that it takes the community of all of us working together to make miracles like this happen. Zak and Chill are incredible Akitas, and so deserving for this new life. We know that Donna, their Human who passed, had a hand in this, has been watching over them, and can now rest in peace. Diana, her daughter, who spent so much of her limited free time doing everything she could to keep Zak and Chill together and their lives normal, can now close this part of the book and start to grieve.
We were just so excited to share this with you this morning, and thank you again for everything YOU do to help Akitas and their Families in need.
Together, we are making a Difference.
TANJIRO ... our Miracle Boy spent 65 days in the veterinary hospital, and has been out and in medical foster for 10 days. This guy, found with two badly broken forelegs, landed in a high intake shelter with staff and a rescue coordinator doing everything possible to help him, and then later, helping us help him by coordinating his exit straight to the private vet who examined Tanjiro the first day he came in. Well, LOOK at him now! Each day, he gets to "walk" just a little bit further and gets just a little bit more leash to move around and re-strengthen all of the muscles in his legs. Tanjiro is here today because of everyone who helped cover his medical care and is an incredibly sweet Akita.
Update on "SPOT" .... He's Stayin' Alive!
YES, he was adopted yesterday by a private party who saw his posts on social media. SHARING his post saved his life. The adopters are savvy and committed, and have another dog. The dogs had met and are both balanced in temperament, but we are coaching them to give this the best possible chance of long term success. Awwwoooooooooo and Thank Wooooo to the Shelter Staff, Volunteers, and You-Wooo who help save precious lives!
Tanjiro's FIRST steps, no cast, no splints!
Today marks 60 days of Tanjiro being in the vet's office, where he has gotten the medical care, love and rest he needed. In a few days, he will be walking out and into the "low and slow" environment he needs for another month or so. It's all baby steps, of course, but THEY ARE STEPS and it's time to let the tendons warm up and stretch. This guy is a walking miracle and it's all because of YOU!
Today, it's been 60 days since Tanjiro was found "wandering" around the streets of a high-desert community in California, and 56 days since he came into RESCUE with us and entered the Bear Valley Animal Hospital. Yes, it's been a very expensive stay but was best for Tanjiro. He has been very comfortable with staff, and is out several times a day to do his business, stretch out and "play" under close supervision of course!
Speaking of "stretch" .... Tanjiro is on the HOME STRETCH! on Friday, Dr. Zuniga and staff cut off his hard casts and a short while later, he was allowed to take small steps while being supported by his harness held by staff. Every first step was more careful and slow as BOTH of his forelegs were broken badly, and after almost 2 months, there were indeed his first steps. After a few minutes of slow steps and allowing him to put a bit of his body weight on his legs, the casts were put back on, this time, held with vet tape. This allows a bit of movement of the muscles and tendons in his legs, while still being supported by the casts.
Our plan is for him to finally WALK OUT of the hospital on Thursday - as long as he is cleared tomorrow after Dr. Zuniga examines him.
Tanjiro is a LOVELY and sweet-natured Akita. He has become a favorite of the vets and staff at the hospital, and he also has his favorite people. It is because of the love and support of so many people that Tanjiro's next steps are possible!
More soon !
