Update: Thanks to one of our more recent additions to our MAIGR team we have Hero's foster home all set. Eddie H. reports he is settling in well and we will update on Hero very soon.

Attention Approved foster homes: We need an available foster home for this very handsome 8 yr old male currently located in Alexandria VA.
He is doing really well in his temp foster home and this is the info we have so far.
Hero is an 8-year old sweetheart who craves love and snuggles. While he’s a very capable walker, he needs some assistance with stairs — that is, he’s learning how to climb, but finds descent to be challenging. Hero’s previous family were not strict with house training, but this sweet boy does begin to show his cues after a few days of getting to know you: he has barked a little at the door when he’s ready to be let outside but this isn't every time. We’ve had a few small accidents in the house but they’re not of a marking nature. Because of his motor skills it's best for someone to place him in the yard in the same area that he has used before and that usually will do the trick.

This boy is perfectly content with a sedentary lifestyle but is great with walks lasting up to 1-2 city blocks in length before he’s tired. . He’s curious but not mischievous, and will seek to find you if you’re in the house. He is excellent in his crate (in fact, it’s his safe space) and sleeps in it overnight. Hero has been in his crate for up to 4 hours at a time with no issue when we’ve had to leave the house. It will be best as far as we can tell that he should not be left alone for very long until he has been potty trained, which we believe should be able to do. We've seen good progress over the past week.
Hero isn’t much of a playful pup, but he does enjoy a soft treat and some scratches. He’s excellent with our Iggy and has been nothing less than a loving boy with strangers. Please note that Hero is very well behaved but is not as food motivated as other dogs, so finding a routine with him will take patience and attention until he is settled. It is important to note that Hero does recognize his name but does not know any other commands. His ideal setting would be a home with as few stairs as possible, lots of soft walking surfaces like carpet, loving attention, and ample cuddle time.

We’ve noticed that Hero has difficulty with focus and seems to be unaware of his surroundings at times. His difficulty with stairs seems to stem from his hind quarters, and may be why he’s unable to heed cues like, “Sit.” While we’ve consulted with a vet and have helped with what may be nerve pain (via a Gabapentin and Ibuprofen regimen), he’s still got a little bit of a tremor and a tic that causes him to circle to the right three times while walking.
Last, Hero was previously eating hard kibble but is not motivated to eat unless he is given soft food. He will be scheduled for a dental once he is comfortable in his foster home. Who is available???

We just had to share this about one of our precious MAIGR alumni 💜 it's from his former foster mom 😁

Does anyone remember Odie? I fostered him back in the beginning of 2019. He originally came from a house who I’m sure loved him but they were not able to give him the proper care he needed. His mouth smelled worse than any garbage can you’ve ever smelled. Wendy Woodward Ryan rescued him and his siblings. Odie was 13 then. MAIGR Mid Atlantic Italian Greyhound Rescue paid for him to get all of shots and his much needed dental work. After a few rounds of medications and some healing time Odie’s mouth smelled like a million bucks. Odie started to feel like that too! He was adopted to a great loving lady who doesn’t live but a half hour from my house. I get invitations to his birthday parties and they send me pictures when they buy him new outfits. What a joy to have him here in my house for his vacation this week. Odie is 18 years old now and is running my yard I have to run after him to get him back inside he likes to explore. His hearing and eyesight aren’t perfect but man can he get around like lightening. These are the moments when you can say hey all of this rescue work is inconvenient sometimes but SO worth it. Odie lives a fantastic spoiled life and is loved by so many. We were lucky to be such a small part in his rehoming. I think he will be around for a few more great years❤️ if you have ever been interested in fostering why not just give it a try. It tugs on your heart but you will never regret it. ❤️

We received this very sad news about one our MAIGR alumni, Mr. Crumb who was a Super Senior when he came to us 5 years ago. We are forever grateful for amazing people who look past the stigma of "senior" and can see the amount of love and joy adopting an older dog brings even though it could be a shorter time but wow do they pack so much love and memories into that time however long it could be 💙 Mr. Crumb

The best hello and the hardest goodbye comes from our pups. I let Mr. Crumb cross Rainbow Bridge a few days ago just shy of his 17th birthday. I was a mess of course and now navigating the void. Thanks for all the LIKES and LOVES over the last five years. Also the sweet comments about my sweet boy. A special thanks to Mid-Atlantic Italian Greyhound Rescue for making him available to me five years ago.

We are So happy to announce Gemma has found her forever home and we hit the jackpot for her!!! She is a special little girl (all IGs are special) but Gemma is just a little extra special 💖 and she is settling into her new home extremely quickly and her new family adores her 😊😊😊 Happy life Gemma!!

Very sad update: Rip was hit and killed on rt 79 , his family is devastated 😢 so tragic 💔

Still missing in Pennsylvania : sharing the new flyer and message from his mom.

Hey all, this is my little pup and he is still missing. He was last seen trying to cross 79s over to 79n near the Houston exit on Saturday 6/29.

He is so skiddish. Don’t approach. I have a bonded dog that I will bring to see if he will come to him. We just need a sighting if everyone could take a peak in their yards or on their Ring cameras. 🙏🏻

Update: her owners just posted!!!

She’s home!!!!
Someone contacted us with a pic, he picked her up and took her home. She was standing in the middle of the road not far from the initial sighting. She’s fine, bit scratched up but that’s from the evil brambles, and rough pasterns from running so hard for so long but she’s safe. Vet visit tomorrow though.
Now it’s time for both of us to nap :-))

Remy gets along well with other dogs and loves to run and play, chase birds and squirrels but also be cuddled right up next to you under a blanket - sounds like an Iggy if we ever heard one.

Bently is all lined up to get a teeth cleaning at the end of May, and then will be ready to go to his forever home. So in the meantime, he is soliciting applications to ensure that you are the right fit for him!

Bentley is a precious 7-year old Italian Greyhound who is elated to find his forever home!

He absolutely loves playing chase with his foster family's Italian Greyhound and gets the zoomies often! He loves snuggling in blankets and it's just adorable when he comes to sit in your lap and crosses his paws so elegantly!

Bentley's demeanor is timid, yet very sweet. He thrives on affection and has the sweetest way of getting right in your face to get his neck scratched. The funny thing: he absolutely does not lick humans in the face!

Bentley had been pad trained and had used belly bands in his former home, but has quickly learned to use the doggy door at his foster home. He now freely goes outside to potty, with an occasional yard patrol to ward off any visiting squirrels!

Bentley can be crated but also has enjoyed having free reign at his foster home, where he alternates between the dog beds, the human beds, and "swimming" in the carpet to get those good full body scratches! His favorite spot is in the window box, where there is a ton of sun!

Bentley loves his time spent with kids, adults, and similar sized dogs and a person who is home more often than not. He would thrive in a home with similar sized dogs and gentle kids but families with children 16 and under must have a fully fenced yard.
