Soooo Indy hadn't been out since Wednesday due to our trip to the cabin. Ignore my commentary. I tried to get him to turn without making the video too shaky. This was AFTER I tried to lounge him and he did the same thing for five minutes.

Baby Boy finally got to stretch his legs today. Rain stopped long enough for me to let him loose in the indoor. He lunged perfectly afterwards which was a nice plus. Photos taken by my good friend, Laura.

Indy lunging today after his farrier appointment. Trying to work at the extended trot a lot to help him stretch his legs and build up muscle in his hind end. We're also trying to extend our trot under saddle but it's proving to be extremely difficult for him. Practice makes perfect.

Indy feeling frisky after the day got a little windy. He is so sensitive to weather. He did this for 5-10 minutes straight.

Indy did really well today. He is really making a good effort to collect at a canter without pulling. He has made great progress lately and I know we just have to keep working at it. Schedules and weather made it difficult to find time to ride the last two weeks, so we've been doing a lot of lunging. Soon though, We'll be back home and free to ride all the time!

Lounged Indy in the round pen today. Pretty soupy and sloppy, but we made it work. It's always days like today you find the hole in your boot. Now I get to warm up and dry off!

I was told a long time ago that the "motto" of our training was "It takes as long as it takes." Each horse ia different and it won't take them all the same amount of time to learn something. Indy was a perfect example of this yeaterday. He did beautiful until I asked him to canter. After he ran for a while, he wouldn't even collect at a walk. He is not working off his back end, which is really difficult for him due to his condition. Unfortunately this also means it's difficult for he and I to go through the steps to get him to work that way. This is where the creative side of horse training comes in handy. I've decided to take a step back from the canter and further Indy's skill set at a walk and trot. The snow may put this on hold until Monday. :( It will take him as long as it will take him to learn to work off his rear and that's how long we'll work at it.

Indy wasn't super excited about working today. Not that he wasn't super excited, he just didn't see the need for a saddle. He tested the nose rope I put on his halter and got a lesson on what it's for. Afterwards we rode anyway and he did not as well as before, but not as bad as he could have. Today is just one of those days you put behind us and move on to the next one, and that's ok.

Indy says, "Why do I have two bridles on my face?" He is doing absolutely fantastic in his new git-up! He transitioned fairly well from a collected trot to a collected canter and made saveral strides at a collected canter. Slowly, but surely, we're getting there!

Indy is sporting his new tail bag I made him. His tail is touching the ground now and I want to protect it from breakage. He was a little confused today because we rode in double reins with his side pull and his mullen on snaffle. He figured it out quickly and made several amazing attempts at collection at the canter. Very proud of him today. He's truly a blessing. ♡♡

Why am I out working my horse when it's twelve degrees and snowing? Because that's what we do.

So as it turns out, taking pictures WHILE your horse is moving do not always give you the best results! Indy and I rode shortly today and evaded our barn manager who, thinking the arena was empty, decided to give it a little shower. Indy wasn't too thrilled about getting misted, but we were able to get out before getting too soaked!

Indy is not too thrilled about only being able to walk and trot until Tuesday, but he still did well today!! He only has three shoes and I don't want to make him sore.

So by request, I was told to start posting here again, so I will!! Indy moved up to Ft. Collins with me. He was in a paddock with three other horses that he decided he didn't like anymore so he got to move to a single stall that luckily opened up. My dad and I had to put up additional fencing so he didn't roll away into another pen.
