Oh the things our Vacay Stay guests have to endure!

Border Collie Bougie is staying with us while her hoomans are traveling.

Bougie has been a pup school member and a vacay guest since she was a wee pup - she’s a good sport to put up with my shananigans! 🤶🐾🥳

Ari - Available!
Intake Date - 7 December 2024 . Black and white, spayed smooth coated female, approximate birth date July 2024 . Ava and Ari are littermates who were relinquished to a shelter partner by their former owner. They will not be placed into the same home. . After a week in foster, these young ladies are settling in and doing nicely. They are nicely crate trained, and do well in an outdoor kennel during the day with regular let-outs. They are quiet and well-behaved for untrained pups, and will bloom and thrive with folks interested in training and helping them to become the best dogs they are able to be. They are curious and friendly, and interested in learning. While they have not known to have lived with cats or children, they would likely do well with savvy cats and older children if the adults in the home are training minded and understand rules and limits. Anyone interested in adopting should be prepared to take a session or two of classes to assist with partnership and socialization. . This dog is located in Maryland - we do not ship or transport dogs. For information on adoption, an FAQ, and our application, please see our website at mabcr.org. If you are interested in adoption, please submit an application, complete with documentation. . Dogs that have not lived previously with children will not be offered to homes where young (generally under 12) children reside. We do begin crate training all dogs on intake, however, we do not guarentee hosuebreaking, though most dogs are situationally housebroken. . We had a couple of last minute add on vacay stay clients today and I decided they might enjoy getting out, so I took them with me for some Christmas shopping at a Home Depot.

Mae (tri colored border collie) has been a regular client since she was about 11 weeks old and she did a fabulous job working on staying behind the shopping cart (was hard not herding it!).

Sugar is a 16 wk adorable heinz 57 and she has been a puppy camp member twice a week with us to work on her confidence. We snuck up on workers that were carrying strange objects and watched lots of people and then she rocked her sit stay for a photo with Grinch 🎄💗

Kit is my 2yo border collie. I adopted her this past spring from Mid Atlantic Border Collie Rescue and she came along with us to work on her social skills and practice focusing on me amongst big distractions and worrisome sounds 💗🐾

As days become colder and sunlight is scarce, pet friendly stores can be a great source of training ideas with built in novelty and distractions.

Please welcome Sugar to our Puppy Prodigy School!

Sugar was adopted from a rescue and is about 13 weeks old. Her people are super smart and knew Sugar would need some support to socialize her with new people, sounds, places, and all the things that puppies need to learn about while they’re young.

We are excited to work with her and look forward to helping her humans navigate puppyhood and adolescence 🐾

What else would a dog trainer do on Thanksgiving evening with a house full of dogs?

Star has been working hard on her core and leg strength.. trying to tighten up her posture by working on position changes on a narrow platform. This is relatively new for her but it’s coming along nicely!

Yogi (Malinois)rocked the backup to target! He was really starting to figure this out. In case you can’t tell, I’m marking for any weight shift backward and then I reward him forward so that I can set him up to weight shift backward again! This doubles as a fitness exercise as well as teaching them how to back up and find the target with their rear feet. Eventually, it will teach him to stretch those back legs out behind him and it will help to create a beautiful kickback stand when he’s ready for the flashy stuff 😉.

Kit was being shaped to backup- using training gates to create a chute. Similar to Yogi’s exercise, I place the treat forward, when she backs up to get out of the chute, I mark the backup and then place another treat forward to setup the exercise again. We will do several sessions of this and work up to putting it on a verbal cue and fading the gates away. Then she will have a back up that is independent of my body pressure, which makes it more useful for things like canine freestyle dance, etc..

Lastly my Ben - I’m not allowed to train another dog in the house without giving him a turn. He’s working on distance position changes and is very excited to be here 🤣😍
