The 2024 season is right around the corner! With the summer crew finishing up, I will have some training spots available this fall. We offer shed antler, upland, waterfowl, and obedience training. It’s also the perfect time for anyone looking for a preseason tune up.

Another title to their names BDC WC SM CHSD HR Dirty Prairie’s Bacardi at Sunrise MH and BDC POY ‘22 NC WCx2 SMx3 CHSD HR Dirty Prairie’s A Wish Come True. Cardi and Penny finished off their HR titles this past weekend at the WISILL HRC hunt test with both dogs going 4/4. Time to switch gears and get ready for fall tournaments
Happy 3rd birthday to our little rocket BDC ‘22 POY NC WCx2 SMx3 Dirty Prairie’s A Wish Come True (Penny). It’s been so much fun owning this dog since the first day we got her. So many miles on the road and in the field together. Time goes by so fast, but that’s the way she likes it! Let’s keep this thing rolling little girl
Just over 2 months left of guiding season. It always goes too fast, but we’re looking forward to ending the season strong!
Brandie (Cardi x Cowboy) is back for training. Can’t wait to see how this spitfire turns out. Hopefully she’s ready in time to help out with the big quail challenge next month and possibly become a tournament dog

The girls have a couple days of much needed rest over Christmas. I’ve been trying to keep track of all the upland birds Penny has flushed and retrieved over her lifetime. At this rate she should reach 10,000 birds by the age of 3! Fortunate to own such an amazing dog. I think all the dogs will get a few extra treats tomorrow morning. Merry Christmas!

It’s been a long two weeks competing in back to back BDC Super Majors. Top Gun Championships Penny won the puppy division, took runner up in the top gun division, and won the Doubles division. Players Championships Penny advanced 5 of her 6 runs into the finals. She took 5th in the puppy division and runner up again in the Top Gun division. This now gives her 4 super major wins within the past year! Time to take a little break and get back to training

Week 3 working on “whoa” with Drip. This is a big advantage while hunting or guiding. I can hold her up if she is on a bird out of range or I can cut her loose to flush the bird if it starts to run.

Working on some new things with Drip to get her ready for guiding and tournaments. She’s got some big shoes to fill. Excited to see her progress through the season
Puppies are now 5 weeks old. These are the 3 still available. Blue collar male is a gorgeous dark red. Green collar is a dark yellow male. Purple collar is a lighter yellow female with lots of personality. Both parents are great family dogs that have proven to compete at the highest level of any dog sport

Pink collar couldn’t get enough of lunch today. Everyone is coming this week to pick out their puppy. 2 males and a female available. More pictures of those 3 to come once picks have been made.
Waiting to hear back from UKC, but BDC ‘22 POY WC SM Dirty Prairie’s A Wish Come True has unofficially earned her Champion Shed Dog title over the summer. Between pheasant hunting and hunt test training I’ve only put in about a month of shed training with her so I’m very proud of her completing her title in 3 weekends.
Our next goal will be to make the BDC puppy of the year runoff again for 2023 and have a chance at POY back to back years making BDC history as the only flusher to do so (from what I’ve heard)
It’s a good feeling when fall hunts are getting booked in July. Looking forward to a great season!
2 weeks old - Eyes are opening, wobbling around, and starting to play. Goes by so fast!
Pups are a week old tomorrow. Full bellies, happy, and healthy!
Buddy has finished the upland program and is now ready to find his new home. 1.5 year old chocolate male. Well rounded dog that will make a great addition to a hunting family. Loves everyone and is great with other dogs. Message me for more details on Buddy

Cardi is enjoying some sun before having her puppies next week. Xray this morning confirmed 7 possibly 8. Hoping for a stress free delivery and healthy pups.
Cardi is an amazing dog in the house and has proven to be highly competitive in any retriever sport. Her achievements include

Gabby has a few weeks left of our gun dog program. Here we are working on transitions in cover. She was only a few feet on the wrong side of the wind from stepping on this mark.
We have also been working on longer marks and water marks driving back out onto land. Next will be decoy spreads and layout blinds

A little late, but Memorial Day weekend we headed north to the Badger State Shed Dogs event. Razz received 3 more passes and Ruby went 2/3. Penny also received 3 more passes. Some handler errors on my part and a heat dog around kept us from having a chance at the podium. It was great to catch up with people I don’t get to see often and meet some new people. Thanks to Jeff and Cassie for a great weekend.
A couple more weeks with some new training ideas before we give it another go
1 year old chocolate male “Buddy” will be available as a started upland dog by the end of the month. He quarters the field nice without getting too far out of range. Very easy to handle. He’s great with other dogs and people. Crate trained, collar conditioned, through FF. A couple more weeks of quartering and shooting some birds and he will be ready to go

Cowboy is one of the most well known fox red males around. A list of his accomplishments can be found at theblastwsk.com. Cardi is the only dog that I know of that has won tournaments in the National Bird Dog circuit, acheived her champion shed dog title, and received her master hunter title. All of her titles were achieved before the age of 3. She is also one of my go-to guide dogs. Both dogs have excelled in every sport they were trained for and are also great family dogs. Puppies should be a smaller, athletic build.
Pups should be born mid-late June. We will be confirming her pregnancy shortly. Message me for more information
What a great tournament season we had through the fall and winter. Penny took home 3 first place finishes, won the BDC Puppy of the Year, 2 runner up finishes, and had multiple top 5 finishes. She will be competing in one last tournament to end the season in 2 weeks. We will continue her training for shed dog trials and hunt tests through the summer. I am excited to see where she will take us!

With only one more day left in the guide season we are switching over to waterfowl training. Penny is transitioning to cold blinds and is doing great
Pile drills are very repetitive and can get boring by the end of summer but after a long winter of upland training, I look forward to switching back into waterfowl training. Drip has built a lot of confidence throughout the guide season and I’m looking forward to seeing how much she can learn this spring and summer
It amazes me how Penny knows how to switch gears when we change games. During a tournament she is lightning fast and it’s hard for me to hold her off of birds. A day later we will be back in the field guiding and she will flag birds like this, so hunters can get into a good position. We are excited to get back into competition mode with 4 events in the next 6 weeks

Mia has been with us for about two months now and she is starting to put it all together. Love how she quarters in range and runs hard
Start ‘em young! Penny might not even know her name yet but she knows to bring a bird back. Awesome to see their instincts kick in at such a young age
8 month old Mia (Stella x Journey) is starting to put it all together. She will be out quartering the fields in no time! Every dog advances through phases of training at a different pace, but as long as you keep them engaged and make learning fun, the end result is always the same
We’ve only been doing water blind drills for a week since upland hunting all winter. Spending the time to thoroughly teach the fundamentals last year are really paying off!
