ABOUT OUR TEAM
At Music City Cats, sitters have the support of our management team, who coordinate scheduling, invoicing & help you handle emergencies, so sitters can focus on delighting clients with outstanding care, entertaining sit reports, and great photos of their kitties.

PAY
Sitters are independent contractors and earn on average $20/hour + tips and between $500- $1500 per month. Sitters keep 100 percent of tips from clients and receive additional holiday pay.

Last Friday, we assisted Franklin County Animal Control w/a hoarding case. Were we sure where we would put everyone? Nope. But we had a lot of faith that adoption event would be successful and make space quickly. (Thank you, adopters!) So when they reached out, we jumped in the van and headed that way to do what we could.⁠⁠

Over 90 animals were confiscated from this property, including dogs, cats, turtles, mice, and chickens. We were able to bring 19 dogs and 18 cats back with us, and other agencies stepped up to support the remaining animals. Huge kudos to everyone involved, especially Franklin County Animal Control!

Some of the animals are in ok shape and are making their way to the adoption floor, while others will need more medical attention. Godzilla has no jaw. Ginger is pregnant. Sheila has a mass on her spine and a skin infection. Many have an upper respiratory infection, and most are suffering from malnutrition. Three of the tiniest newborn kittens couldn't be saved, which broke our hearts. But at least their momma will be spayed and never have to go through that again. ⁠⁠

So that's the awful, now let's focus on the good. These animals are now in Nashville, and y'all are such a supportive and loving community. We know they'll find wonderful homes here! Everyone will be spayed or neutered, brought up to date on their vaccinations, and microchipped. A handful of dogs tested positive for heartworms and will receive the treatment needed for their hearts to recover. Our medical team will treat every illness. Their future is bright. A lot of times, we hear, "I don't know how you do it." And this is how. Seeing these neglected animals upgrade from living in filth to becoming a beloved family member is the light that pulls us through. ⁠⁠

This $5 Friday, we'd love to raise funds to support these life-saving efforts. We have a very long waitlist of shelters and individuals who need our help. And inevitably, emergency cases will come up in the meantime. Every single dollar raised makes a difference. Thank you so much for your support!

- The animals in my logo are my actual furbabies! I have a senior pup Darwin and two cats, Gracie and Archie. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Yesterday my sweet Emmitt Smith crossed the rainbow Bridge after a short fight with kidney disease. I had to make the call to let him go while I was traveling for work and it was the hardest thing I've ever done. He was truly the best cat. He was so social and loved talking to every one. If you have any pictures of you with Emmitt, please drop them in the DMs. Thank you to everyone for the texts and calls.

Kittens pretending to be fireworks are adorable. But real fireworks are stressful for pets.

This holiday, when fireworks are plentiful, make sure all windows and doors are secured so pets can't bolt out. Take extra steps to provide a calm setting for anxious pets.

Things to try for your kitty friends: Feliway diffuser, soothing classical music, calm television programs, Thundershirt, your affection and company. And instead of shooting off fireworks, consider playing with some wild kittens instead!

Music City Cats

I started a pet sitting company in 2007, At Home Pet Services. We took care of all pets and loved it.

Over time I noticed a few things.

It's true, there are dog people and cat people. I don't mean dog people can't love cats, most do. Just some sitters were more tuned into cat behavior and some connected more with dogs. Unintentionally, we gravitated toward cats. Most of our clients were cat parents. The best dog walkers weren't necessarily the best cat sitters, and the best cat sitters were usually not the best dog walkers. Most pet sitting companies operate like we did, the sitters care for the pets in their area, both dogs and cats. I see cat care and dog care as two very different jobs. So, instead of doing a good job of taking care of all pets, I decided to hire only "Cat People" and do a fantastic job caring for cats.

It was a difficult decision, but the right one...for me and my company. Music City Cats was born!
