WHAT ARE RHYTHM BEADS: 'Equine Rhythm

Beads', also known as speed beads, bear bells, horse necklace, cadence beads or horse beads, not only enhance the natural beauty of your horse, they create an auditory learning experience and are a valuable training aid used to improve performance and are quickly gaining recognition & wholehearted support from jumpers, gaited horse riders, endurance riders, dressage riders, trail riders, barrel racers & horse trainers of all breeds & disciplines around the world. Rhythm Beads encourage your horse to follow a rhythm or cadence, much like a musician to a metronome through timed beats. The soft jingle of the brass bells accentuates the rhythm of horse's gaits, which is useful for adjusting the tempo/rhythm of the horse's movements. The bells help the rider pick up the correct diagonal and detect whether they are cantering/loping on the correct lead. Rhythm beads are an excellent resource for all riding disciplines, including training and desensitizing young horses. On the trail, the bells are useful for alerting both wildlife and other riders that you are approaching. The subtle and soothing jingle of the bells create a 'white noise' effectively blocking distractions in the arena or on the trail. Also known as 'Speed Beads', rhythm beads have been used to encourage a faster and harder pace for speed events. INTRODUCING RHYTHM BEADS TO YOUR HORSE

Although many horses accept rhythm beads right away, we recognize that each horse is different & wanted to share some steps for safely introducing your rhythm beads to ensure a positive experience for both you and your horse. Proceed calmly in incremental steps to acclimatize your horse to rhythm beads and you'll soon be riding around in them, as though he's always worn them! I’ve even had customers tell me their horse actually lowers their head in anticipation of the beads! You know your horse… if your horse looks unsure of the rhythm beads, follow some of these desensitization exercises on the ground, in an open area like a round pen before putting on the rhythm beads. I’ve even had a few customers tell me their horse actually lowers their head in anticipation of the beads! First, hold your Rhythm Beads in your hand, muffling the bells and let your horse explore and sniff the beads. When your horse relaxes, take the beads away. Next, hold the beads against their neck, side, or back (whichever they are most comfortable with). Repeat again on different area of your horse until they stand still and relaxed. When your horse is completely comfortable, lightly massage them again with the rhythm beads and let the bells jingle a little. The key is to start off slowly, allowing the horse to succeed at every step of the introduction. Once your horse has relaxed and settled well to the sound put the rhythm beads over your horse’s head as you would a bridle and reins, attaching the clip to the mane so the rhythm beads stay secure. With the beads on your horse, lead him around at a walk, then spend some time playing in the arena with some free lunging.

*For safely, I strongly recommend that you lead and free lunge at a walk and trot with the Rhythm Beads before riding out! If your horse is completely relaxed on the lunge proceed to tacking up and ride in an enclosed area before going out for a ride

USES of Rhythm Beads: Being a good rider/partner involves understanding and feeling gaits, lead changes, etc. Rhythm beads with the addition of bells, help the rider (simply by hearing) determine the proper cues and responses to gait changes. The HOW and WHY behind the materials you will find used in Rhythm-n-Bead’s products. Of course we ALL love ‘pretties’ for our beloved horses, but R-n-B will NOT compromise quality, safety and durability….they must be able to stand the test of time and use!

R-n-B Materials…

Bells: R-n-B rhythm beads only uses solid brass and silver chromed brass bells. Other rhythm bead makers use ‘silver finish’ metal bells that will rust and lose their finish. :(

Stringing material: high quality, UV & rot resistant, washable paracord with a 40 lb breaking point (made in the USA) for your horse’s safety….which is a must!

Pendants: All of our necklaces can be dressed up. I try to offer only pendants & focals made of Brass, Pewter, quality metal, genuine horsehair tassels & solid brass larger bells. You will find many rhythm bead makers offer necklaces with more decorative pendants (like what you see at craft stores), but what you discover is…glued on stones that are going to fall out, cheap clasps, silver/gold finish that wears off, etc…they will not stand up! R-n-B wants your rhythm beads to last as long as possible!

Feathers: Although you will see some putting feathers on rhythm bead necklaces (because they do add a pretty touch), I generally do not recommend them, except for perhaps on the necklace tail ends. WHY….because unless they are used just for photo shoots or showing, they will NOT stand up to the dirt and sweat of a horse’s coat. However, they are a beautiful accent on mane and tail pieces .

So, when shopping for rhythm beads…..look first for safety features, quality materials and workmanship, before you succumb and give in to R-n-B’s imitators ‘inferior pretties’ that will not stand up. It IS possible to have ‘pretty’ without compromising quality!
