Say hello to Dobby!

A good Samaritan rescued Dobby from a homeless man but as he is moving out of the country in the next year, cannot keep the dog long-term. Best guess is that Dobby is 4.5 years old. He has a very easy going demeanor, gets along with other dogs, likes people and enjoys car rides. He knows basic commands and understands what NO means.

Dobby is a sweet and affectionate red boy. He likes to run at the dog park and to be chased by other dogs. He is active but also enjoys being a couch potato.

A $300 adoption fee applies.

Three-year old Hugo was found as a stray in Roswell with an injury to his right eye. At first he kept the eye closed but after a few weeks of drops and anti-inflammatories, he appears to be more comfortable and is now able to open up his eye. Our vet believes Hugo has no vision in the injured eye but that doesn’t slow this boy down!

Hugo is the sweetest, big lug of a Doberman, weighing in at 80 lbs. He is housebroken, crate trained and loves to ride in the car. Hugo enjoys chewing on bones and is a playful, energetic boy. He wants to play with everyone! He is not exposed to children or cats in his foster home but is tolerant of the small dogs.

Please go to our website @ https://www.dobermanrescuenm.org and complete an application for this love bug!

A $300.00 adoption fee applies.

One year old Gretel’s journey hasn’t been easy. She and another Doberman were found dumped in Otero County and picked up as strays. It is obvious she had little to no human contact but she is learning to trust and settle into the warmth of her loving foster home. When she first arrived, she was nervous and unsure, spending most of her time by the front door, hesitant to let her guard down. But with patience, love, and a little training, Gretel is beginning to blossom.

Gretel is thoughtful and observant. It may take her some time to warm up, but she’s very sweet. Gretel is still learning that the world can be a safe place. She may bark or growl at her reflection, unfamiliar noises, and dogs, but she’s never aggressive, just cautious. She is still hesitant to allow you to pet her, but she loves if you hold your hand out for her to give you kisses. She doesn’t jump, she is still wary of getting too close to humans, but follows foster mom everywhere. Gretel LOVES seeing foster mom! She gets so happy whether she's in her kennel, or when she was in her area. She started out just thumping her tail but now she full on wiggles her body, shakes her tail, and just goes all out. Foster mom states you can feel her love the minute Gretel hears her coming home or walking by, and it's the best. 🥰😍

There are two older children (13 & 9) and Gretel is warming up to them as well. Foster mom is her primary caregiver, so naturally she is warming up to her much faster but willingly givies the kiddos kisses on their hands, and loves when they talk to her. She gets very upset if she sees a cat, I’m uncertain if she will warm up or not.

She loves a cozy spot of her own (a crate or a quiet corner out of the way of household activity) and likes to go to bed early! She gets little random bursts of happiness and hops and jumps around in excitement. She needs a home where she has an outdoor space where she can explore and take in all the scents and sounds.

Gretel is crate trained, and does very well in the kennel, once she feels safe. She is quiet and goes into her crate of her own free will and very easily when coaxed with bacon bits. She doesn’t love leashes but will allow you to leash her and walk in areas she feels comfortable in. She is a little uncomfortable doing her business outside and needs space from her people to feel comfortable to go – so a decent sized well fenced in yard is a must. She really enjoys finding the perfect spot and loves to smell.

Gretel needs patience and understanding in her new home and the ability to adjust at her own pace. She prefers a calm household with structure and routine. Lastly, someone who will celebrate her small victories—every step forward is a big deal for this girl!

Did you know your dog can smell up to 10,000 times better than you?

In fact, your pup’s sense of smell is SO strong — they can sniff out a SINGLE drop of liquid in 20 swimming pools.2 🤯 Now, your pup’s sense of smell is a downright “doggy superpower”, but here’s the downside:

Some everyday items like scented candles, laundry detergent, and perfume can actually be dangerous for your dog. Leading to respiratory issues like coughing and sneezing… runny or gunky eyes… or even upset their stomach. And one of the worst offenders is household cleaners.

Most store-bought cleaning solutions are made with artificial scents designed to “cover up” bad smells. Even “natural” options can be risky since they contain essential oils that may harm your pup. But I know life can get a little messy with our furry roommates around… so, I want to re-share my favorite DIY household cleaners.
While these cleaners won’t replace essential disinfectants like bleach, they’re a much safer option for everyday use. Plus, they’re SUPER easy to make, and use ingredients you likely already have around the house!

🐶 Dr. Marty’s Pup-Safe Cleaners 🐶

DIY All-Purpose Cleaner

This is your go-to cleaner for all your basic dog messes — like spilled food, dirty toy smudges, and any other “mystery stains.” What you’ll need:
→ 1 cup white vinegar
→ 1 cup water
How to make it:
1. Combine the water and vinegar in a clean, empty spray bottle.
2. Screw the lid onto your spray bottle and gently shake.
3. Spray cleaner onto any surface and wipe clean.

💡Pro tip:

Make a bigger batch of this cleaner by mixing equal parts any amount of white vinegar and water.

DIY Floor Cleaner

This 2-ingredient floor cleaner is the safest way to erase your pup’s muddy paw prints or potty accidents! What you’ll need:
→ 1 cup white vinegar
→ 1 gallon warm water
How to make it:
1. Mix the white vinegar and warm water in a large bucket.
2. Stir the solution until it’s thoroughly combined.
3. Dip a mop or cloth into the mixture and wring it out until it's damp but not dripping.
4. Use the damp mop or cloth to clean your floors.
5. Allow your floors to air dry or dry them with a clean, dry cloth.

💡Pro tip:

Test this cleaner on a small area of your floor before using it everywhere. Add a cup of your cleaner to a spray bottle and “soak” extra dirty spots before wiping down your entire floor.

DIY Window Cleaner

This easy-to-make spray is the BEST way to clean “nose art” and sticky drool from your windows. What you’ll need:
→ 2 tablespoons cornstarch
→ ½ cup hot water
→ ½ cup rubbing alcohol
How to make it:
1. Combine the cornstarch and rubbing alcohol in a small mixing bowl. Stir well until the cornstarch has completely dissolved.
2. Add the hot water to your mixture and stir until fully combined.
3. Pour your cleaning solution into a clean spray bottle and reattach the lid.
4. Spray onto your windows and wipe clean until windows are clean.

💡Pro tip:

Shake your spray bottle before using to dissolve any remaining cornstarch & use a microfiber cloth or a piece of crumpled newspaper to get a streak-free clean! Life’s definitely a little messier with your pup around. But these dog-friendly cleaners make it easy to keep your home clean — without bothering your pup. Hope you give them a try!

P.S. Disinfecting your house is great for getting rid of harmful bacteria, but it can be super harsh on your pup’s delicate sense of smell. So before you reach for the bleach, close your pup in a separate room. Then, air out the room you’re cleaning by running a fan or opening a window before you let your dog back in.

Nine year old Lulu came to DRNM after a failed adoption from the city shelter because, unfortunately, she killed one of the adopter's chickens. Even though she is a petite Doberman, we were concerned about her emaciated state. She has completed all of her meds for treatment of giardia and has gained 10 lbs. in the two weeks under our care!

Lulu is a sweet, playful girl who enjoys car rides. We believe she has spent her life as an 'outside' dog because she is not completely housebroken, but she is learning quickly! Lulu is crate trained and gets along with older children and other dogs (no cats, please). She is an active dog for a senior! She is a smart girl and so starved for love.

As is common with 93% of blue Dobermans, Lulu has color dilution alopecia (CDA), a genetic skin condition. CDA causes patchy hair loss and thinning, and can also lead to flaky or itchy skin. The hair coat may appear dry, dull, and poor quality. There is no cure for CDA, but treatments, such as good food and supplements, can help manage symptoms.
