This is one of the most fundamentally valid statements a trainer can make!

Teaching people to use their seats is hard, and frustrating for riders, and instructors but its the work we need to be doing.

Unless you ride and train in a manner that encourages your horse to respond to your seat, you will typically need to rely more heavily on rein aids, leading to a loss of energy in the hindquarters, tension throughout the body, and a propensity for the horse to become heavy on the forehand, all of which result in numerous subsequent issues.

More from Chris. I ride Ranch Horses mostly, but this question is a real one. I see many people struggling because they can't get the horse in a shape that is comfortable for that horse. Riding horses is hard, but riding green horses is even harder.

Thinking of doing a Saturday green horse class. Let me know if your interested!

What a great show at lynden! My students showed excellent growth. Tangy and Avery got first place in ranch rail out of 15 riders Saturday and 2nd Sunday. And both Avery and Christina got scores above 70 on their patterns! Sunday they both got 73.5 on their pattern.

My other students came with the goal to keep their horses relaxed and listening and they did very well, showing progress. If you don't have a horse relaxed in the show pen it's hard to have them listen.

So proud of my little show team.

Watch how Chris explains this. If we can learn to use our bodies to create healing in the horse and improve movement, we can fix their sore bodies and even reverse some lameness's. Please come and learn how to ride for the benefit of your horse.

I really think the horse community as a whole is waking up to riding for soundness. Let's grow the revolution!

Learning proper contact is essential to create a soft, willing horse. Self carriage is the goal, but we can't skip steps and expect to get there.

Need help with Saddle Fit?

Before getting this new saddle, Gabe was having a lot of issues going forward. Now he is excelling in his trianing, and we are making leaps and bounds of progress.

I highly recommend Reed at +19492914224 to help you get a saddle that fits you and your horse. English saddles and endurance saddles. I love the one she brought to the fitting and Gabes mom bought for me to ride him in! It's so easy to ride in and gives me a ton of confidence on this young warmblood.

We need at least 1 more person to get her over this way soon to fit a horse I have in training, anyone need help with saddle fit?

Here is another tool to develop those soft elbows I have been trying to get everyone to develop! Practicing skills off the horse is needed, it takes 1000's of hours to master a skill.

Why when the AQHA has such great articles do trainers just rolkur the horses? Surely there are trianers out there teaching correct riding? Surely trainers understand true collection vs false collection?

This is super frustrating, the fact the general population doesn't have trainers that could understand this article and teach the principles of it. This should be mainstream knowledge. Please read the article below.

Self-carriage balances a horse's hindquarters and creates a light forehand and soft pole. Train your horse for proper self-carriage with these exercises.

Tangy decided that she would hurt herself, so now she has cost me $314.40 in vet bills in the last 18 years I have owned her! Except her regular dental.

She hit her nerves in her face and is a little paralyzed in her nose and lips! Vet says it is only temporary! Should be back to normal in 5 days or less. Poor old gal.

Does your horses body feel safe with your body?

What does that even mean?

If our hips, arms, or back tighten, then some horses can get triggered into anxiety. They feel what's going to happen, which enevitably is the pulling on the riens. Some horses will hollow and throw their heads around, some hollow their backs and run away from the rider, and some just shut down and won't go forward. Your horse must trust your body to let go of the anxiety and come back to your seat. Become the trustworthy rider your horse needs. Train your body to let go of tension even when you're a little fearful. It's hard, so go slow with your horse until mutual trust is built. Don't extend the horse out if you can't maintain trust at slower speeds.

Gabe went on a field trip today. We kept it slow and relaxed. He did really well. We had gunfire, loud trucks with Jake brakes, and motorcycles going down the rd. He really looked to me for guidance. Honestly, I didn't think he would be this good. I thought we wouldn't make it past the lunging process. We are trying again tomorrow, I will try and get a longer video!

He makes me look so small! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

We have been talking a lot about riders' bodies this week and how to improve your riding by improving your fitness. We need to be doing exercises that open up our pectoral muscles and strengthen our core. We also need to have our exercise create long muscles, not short, tight ones. Good cross training is pilates, and swimming would work ok also.

Here is a short video to help you get started that Amelia created. This is not just for dressage riders. Ranch and Working equitation riders need to work on their bodies!

If you ride hills, this is great information! Ride like this, and your horse will rotate the pelvis under doing a buttock tuck, maximum rotation is 20 degrees, and they will stay sound with hill work. If not, you're risking your horse becoming lame in the pelvis and eventually in the hind legs.
