Meet Chewy, a charming canine companion who was previously adopted as a young pup but has since been returned to our care due to unforeseen family circumstances. Chewy is a delightful and energetic individual with a strong affinity for food rewards and basic training, although a refresher course would be beneficial. He thrives in dynamic environments and requires an active household that can engage him in play. For further information, please contact me at 408-762-8474.

Meet Alfred. Hello, my name is Alfred, and I am a handsome 8-year-old husky. Due to my family's relocation to a dog-restricted area, I found myself at the shelter alongside my companion. Fortunately, Gepda Rescue, specializing in rottweilers, took both of us in, as they never separate companions. I thoroughly enjoy walks and am a gentle, laid-back older gentleman. I have successfully completed all behavioral tests at the shelter and look forward to finding a new family.

Introducing BUGZ. Hello, I'm Bugz, a friendly and energetic companion needing training. As a youthful and affectionate individual, I require space to exercise and a strong handler to guide me. Lacking prior training, I'm confident I'll learn quickly and become a model companion. I'm prepared for a new home and thrilling adventures with my new family.

Meet Kenda
Meet Kenda. She is a tall Rottweiler mix female dog with a 6" cropped tail currently weighing about 83 lbs. Kenda loves squeaky toys and balls and she is food and toy motivated. She likes to go on walks, is good in the car and has good house manners. We are not sure of her mix, definitely Rottweiler and something else tall. With the proper introduction, Kenda has been good with other dogs, but is boisterous. Because of her size she would do well with older children and most likely would be best with medium to large dogs. Her favorite things are playing chuck it and playing in her kiddie wading pool. She enjoys car rides and jumps right into the hatchback. In the house, she likes to follow you around, loves to play with all the toys and lays at your feet. Kenda is a good watchdog and has a deep menacing bark which she uses with unknown noises or when unknown people come by. Kenda also taught herself the dog door. She responds well to leadership and guidance. Kenda will make someone a wonderful and loyal companion and playmate. Kenda is spayed, has all her shots and would love to meet you. If you are interested in setting up a meeting, please contact us.

Allow us to introduce Christy (Christmas), a charming and spayed female who has recuperated nicely. Estimated to be between 1-1.5 years old and weighing 75 pounds, she demonstrates remarkable friendliness towards adult humans, including those she meets in public. She is ideal for a household with medium to large dogs or as a single pet. Christy is easy to handle, trained with a gentle leader, housebroken, and food-driven, with a special fondness for orange cheese. She has recently been crate-trained and sleeps in a large kennel at night. Clive Wynne's book 'Dog is Love' proposes that dogs like Christy may possess a gene associated with Williams Syndrome, contributing to her extraordinary affection towards humans. For more information, please contact 408-762-8474, preferably via text.

Meet Brina, a resilient individual with a remarkable life story. Despite facing numerous challenges, Brina remains a kind-hearted girl. Her previous owners were unable to foster a mean streak in her, as she lacks any inclination towards aggression. Unfortunately, her current foster caregivers must prioritize her needs over their own desires to keep her, as they are unable to provide the necessary resources due to their existing commitments. Brina recently arrived with puppies, now weaned, and is scheduled for spaying. Interested parties may contact 408-762-8474 to learn more about Brina's story. Her exceptional character makes her a truly exceptional individual.

Meet Fiona
Meet Fiona. She is a 5 month old puppy, all with a splash of white on her chest. She is tall with slender legs, smaller body, straight up black ears and a long pointy snout. We don't know what breed she really is, but sometimes she looks like a Whippet with tall Shepherd ears. She moves fast and sleek almost like a greyhound. She is currently 22 lbs and is not growing fast so she will likely endup on the smaller side, maybe 45 lbs. She loves to follow you around and is the first to greet and request belly rubs. She can be skittish at first, especially with new people, but she is very loyal and affectionate. She will need a special owner who has the patience to introduce her to the world at a pace she can accept. And in return, she will be the most loyal companion you could want. When she looks at you, it is with devotion. She would do best in a lower noise level house. Chaos or small kids may not be ideal for her, although she has been very adaptable so far. She was afraid of many things at first, but she loves to walk so much and explore that she overcomes her hesitations. One of her favorite things is ivy. She rolls around in it like a kid in a ball pit. She does well on the leash and has been sleeping through the night in her crate. She does fine with other dogs, at first wary, and sometimes jumpy, but she enjoys the company of other dogs. She has not been exposed to cats, but when she spotted some rabbits on a walk, she did fixate a bit. She does well in the car and is respectful in the house. She tried to nibble my phone one day but I told her no and she didn't try it again. She likes to bury her long nose in trash cans, so we've been correcting that. She seems very eager to please and has been very smart about understanding a correction. She is very food motivated also. If you would like to meet Fiona, please contact us. She is being fostered in Scotts Valley and Fiona is already spayed, microchipped and has had all her shots including rabies.

Meet Zola
Meet Zola. She is a 5 month old, 20 lb shepherd mix pup with poofy fur and a long, pointy nose and up ears. She is a happy-go-lucky dog, affectionate and loves attention. She is a submissive pup, and follows the lead of others. She likes to meet new people and receive her pets and loves to get treats. She has been sleeping through the night in her crate. She is not housebroken, but she has had a good start by keeping her crate dry through the night. She is good on a leash and loves to go on outings to the park. Offleash she stays close, but does go off to great the other dogs, then comes back to hang out near you. She is inquisitive and friendly and enjoys new adventures. She has been good with kids and other dogs. She has not been exposed to cats but she doesn't seem to have a prey drive. Zola isn't growing very fast so we believe she will be a medium sized dog, maybe 45 lbs. She does appear that she will have longer fur so she will eventually need brushing and fur care. She is fine letting me trim her nails. She barks at new noises and new arrivals but then runs over and flips over to expose her belly for pets. Zola is spayed, microchipped and has had all her shots including rabies. She is being fostered with 3 other dogs in Scotts Valley. If you would like to meet Zola, please contact the rescue.

Meet Harper
Meet Harper. She is a 3 month old pup. Mom is a 55lb brindle Cattledog mix (see our listing for Brina) but this pup looks nothing like Mom ... Harper looks more like a Boxer mix. She is a spunky little girl and has no trouble playing with dogs twice her size. I don't think she is an alpha, but she has a confidence and she always loves to meet new dogs. She loves to go on walks, chew on hard bones, and run around with her littermates. She is observant, and almost stoic. She isn't much of a barker, but she does bark at a weird noise sometime. She is not housebroken, but has been sleeping through the night in her crate without accidents. She has had 2 baths and she hated it both times but she's getting a bit better. She is good in the car and loves her belly rubbed. She will come spayed (date TBA), have her shots (rabies at 4-6 months) and will be microchipped. If you would like to meet Harper please contact the rescue.

Meet Cleo
Meet Cleo. She is a 5 month old full Rottweiler spayed female pup currently weighing about 35 lbs. She loves to make friends at the park, go on hikes and play with the other foster pups. She is submissive to the larger dogs and loves to engage them in play. With people, she can be jumpy and gets excited. But she craves affection and is learning when she sits she receives extra pets and loves.
She is good in the car and sleeps quietly through the night in her crate. Cleo has not been exposed to cats, but does not seem interested in the rabbits in the field, so doesn't appear to have a prey drive. Cleo needs an experienced owner who can help continue her training to make her the best dog she can be. She would also be best around only older kids due to her training needs. Cleo comes with a microchip, all her shots, including rabies, and is spayed. Cleo is being fostered in Scotts Valley, CA. If you would like to meet Cleo, please contact us.

We haven't asked for donations for a bit but we could really use your support right now! First, with this heat and us being on a well, filling our water tank is $225 😲 we are having to do this every 2-4 weeks depending on the weather. There is no water in the ground for the well to pull and in extreme heat we MUST run the misters to keep the dogs safe. We are also in need of dog food, we have a lot of mouths to feed and food is very expensive! We also have barn cats at the ranch that do a wonderful job at keeping any rodents away, we are in need of wet and dry cat food, brand doesn't matter. Please help if you can, no amount is too small.

Meet Jax
He is the sweetest pup believed to be about nine weeks old. He is full of lovable puppy energy and likes playing fetch. He is doing great with his potty training and we are currently getting him familiar with the crate. He loves to sit on your lap and play with his babies. He is very playful and has done well so far socializing with other dogs. He is very smart and alert and is doing great with commands like sit, lay down and stay. He definitely likes to be with his pack especially on walks does great with other pups. He recently was fixed, microchipped and had his first round of puppy shots. He is a sweet boy looking for a good home and will make a great addition to any family.

Buster update:

Grateful for great trainers. This is what Busters trainer has to say about him.

"With a lil more bond and consistency he is a perfect buddy" 😊

That's why I was wanting the bond to be created with the adopter .. so it's a good time if they want to come and meet 👍

We are looking for a foster or adopter who is located in or around the Gilroy area. This way Busters training can keep on going when he's ready for his new life.

Today, I was notified that Daisy, Dante, and I passed our K9 certification testing last week at the American Society of Canine Trainers International Conference. It was an interesting week, given I was commuting to Butte from Bozeman every day, and this was Dante’s big test to see if 9 months of work paid off. I was confident in what he could do, but you never know. Would he pull a space cadet moment like Daisy sometimes does when other working dogs are around, or would the fact that he had never been to Butte or around so many other teams impact him? Well, none of it did. He showed me that God had me wait all these years just for him. Who would have thought that a scrawny Rottweiler found as a stray in California would become certified and operational in explosive detection? To my knowledge, Dante and Daisy are the only Rottweilers in the USA to be certified and operational in this discipline. To make things more interesting and show Dante’s resilience, on Wednesday, while doing our vehicle certification testing in cold and windy conditions, Dante and I got tangled up during reward play after he successfully found the first hide. I took a hard fall and drove my left shoulder into the frozen dirt causing serious injury. You never know how a dog will act when their handler gets hurt. As I knelt on the ground in extreme pain, I could hear one of the instructors, Jason, saying, “Give me your dog.” I handed him the leash and took a minute to compose myself. Everyone helped me up, and though my left arm was completely non-functional, I asked for the ball and my dog and gave Dante the search command. He went right to it and easily found the second hide in the fourth car. I had one of the other handlers, Doug Lieurance, throw the ball for his reward, and when he was tired, everyone helped me get Dante secure in the truck and watered. After that, one of the handlers, and EMT examined me and thankfully didn’t detect broken bones but after feeling the shoulder and seeing my limited ability strongly encouraged me to go to the ER. Not wanting my dogs to be stuck in the truck, I decided to drive back to Bozeman and went to the hospital after the dogs were at home. Nothing was broken, but likely a torn rotator cuff that will probably require surgery. I couldn’t get into the orthopedic surgeon until Friday, so on Thursday, I drove back to Butte and completed the last test with Daisy and Dante.
Daisy’s testing is over now. At the end of this year, she will officially retire, and until then, she is retired-on-duty in that Dante is the primary, and Daisy will only be deployed if necessary. She will still train, and I am under strict orders that even after she retires, she is to come out to the airport and make her social calls with all the staff. I share all of this because there are many people out there who went above and beyond the call to save Dante. Caroline Higgins and Ward Higgins of Gepda Rescue US knew I was looking for a special dog and saw Dante’s potential at the shelter, even buying and hastily putting up a new kennel to pull him before he was at risk of euthanasia. Then Matthew Scott stepped up. A deputy who spent five years as a K9 handler volunteered not only to test Dante on how environmentally sound he was but then offered to drive him all the way up to Montana for me to test him for a week. Like all the people who saved Daisy five years ago, it took effort and sacrifice by special people to give Dante the chance he got. To them, I say thank you, and I hope this shows that your effort was not in vain.
A special thank you to Chris R Aycock and all the other handlers who helped me when I got hurt and for accommodating my injury with our testing, allowing us to see things through to the end.

Once again Gepda Rescue US was asked to help a Rottweiler in danger.
Busters story is pretty much like every other dog entering our shelters at this time. To many dogs and not enough room and rescues are full with no adoptions as well. So this means we can not help save a life without a foster offering to help. Gepda started trying to figure out how we could help and started making calls. We saw this boy and his name and knew we needed to figure something out. One of our close friends Roxanne Lockwood had just lost their boy Buster so we needed to try and rescue this one.
Thank goodness one of our calls panned out. A trainer offered to step up and take Buster into his home as a foster and as a board and train. On Sunday 5/19/24 the trainer came out and met Buster. Everything went great. Buster left the shelter without a moment to spare. If he did not leave yesterday he would have been PTS that night.
Buster will be with our trainer for a month going through a board and train. Also our trainer is offering his services to anyone who wants to take Buster in after the 30 days are up. So this is where we are asking you for your help. Let's find this boy a new home. Let's not fail him again. If your interested in fostering, foster/adopting him please let us know.

Busters story.

Buster had spent the past 5 mo. at the shelter. When Buster entered the shelter he was a easy going boy, but after being there so long he started shutting down.
Buster is a handsome 4-year-old Rott who weighs 100lbs. We had met him several times. Buster is at the front of the kennel, with a wiggly body and tail wagging each time. He was able to leash and removed him from the kennel without issue. Buster walks nicely on a leash, and he knows where the play yard was and will lead us the entire way there. Once in the yard, he was relaxed and has the best smile. Buster enjoys chasing the ball, sniffing, and carrying soft toys. He will sit and lie down on cue. He takes treats nicely and is highly food-motivated. Will solicit attention. He has been good with other dogs (large & small) and has been in playgroup.

Rescue is so bitter sweet 💔It is with such a sad and heavy heart that we must announce that our sweet girl Whisper (aka Lady) has peacefully crossed over the rainbow bridge. Whisper found her forever home with Kathy and Marc Bell in 2014. We estimate her age to be 12-13 years young.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her heartbroken and loving family during this very difficult time.

Tonight the skies will light up with a brand new shining star. RIP sweet Whisper, gone but never forgotten ❤ Rescue is so bitter sweet 💔
