One of the bravest kitties we helped during our August 1 Cat Hoarding Rescue was little Salem. He was struggling with a litany of severe issues including: malnourishment, an upper respiratory infection, conjunctivitis, giardia, tapeworms, and fleas. But in spite of all that, he has a strong fighting spirit and quickly showed signs of improvement once he entered our care. Salem and some of his littermates are staying in a Whole Families Program foster home until they are healthy enough to be transferred to one of our adoption partners.

Our volunteer foster homes are just one of the many ways that PFA's Whole Families Program provides ongoing veterinary medicine & social services support to animals and their human companions. 🐱Cat hoarding rescue & how you can help: People For Animals assisted an individual who was facing a cat hoarding crisis in south Jersey. This person had a big heart, but in spite of their well-meaning intentions, they were quickly overwhelmed with a population explosion of 79 cats! All of the adult felines are under 5-years-old, while 29 are kittens, with 20 of them still nursing. Some already have eye and teeth issues. Thankfully, all the cats are friendly and negative for FeLV/FIV! However, only a few of them were spayed/neutered. We rushed to help with compassion and understanding, while working expediently to safely extract the animals.

The cats are now under the care of PFA, being treated by our vets across all three clinic locations. Thank you for helping spread the word to rescue organizations that have room to bring these cats into their programs. We will continue to help these cats by providing all of them with free spay/neuter surgeries at no cost to the rescue groups that find them forever homes. And we are providing ongoing social services support to the kind-hearted individual who pulled them from the streets.

This is the power of our Whole Families Program in action! We are enthusiastically ready for this challenge, but it is expensive and resource-intensive. Even though we provide some of the most affordable surgery services possible, it still adds up when trying to care for almost eighty cats. Meanwhile, we continue to encounter an urgent need for the Whole Families Program with other members of our extended community.

Friends: PFA has intervened in a cat-hoarding-crisis and rescued 79 cats! All of them are receiving (and will continue to receive) essential vet care at our clinics. We have the budgetary capacity to shelter them until this Thursday August 8, and are working with our partners across the state to place them into rescue programs. But we could all use more help! PFA is excited to announce Pet Food & Supply Pantries at all three clinic locations! Each pantry is open to clients who are enrolled in our Whole Families Program, and stocked with a variety of food for dogs and cats of all ages, along with essential supplies like: collars, leashes, carriers, and kitty litter. It brings us great joy to see the immediate relief we've already been able to provide in the short amount of time that pantry doors have been open . . .

However, the needs of our Pet Pantries are moving faster than we can re-stock shelves.
