Earlier this month, PFA lost a teammate and dear friend in Christina Kalmar. Chris, as she liked to be called, worked as the Front End Supervisor of our Hillside clinic, and always maintained a warm & upbeat personality with her colleagues; simply put, her presence made it fun to come to work! An even greater display of her character could be found in the care she gave to every animal who needed PFA. Every pet parent was treated equally and with respect, and Chris was always prepared to help them.

Her passion for animal welfare was limitless and extended far beyond our clinic! Chris not only provided a loving home to her own family of furbabies, she also volunteered with Angel PAWS, her local animal rescue organization; she showered many adoptable felines with TLC as a foster mom and helped prepare them for their forever homes! The amount of people and animals she helped support over the years are too numerous to count. She embodied the virtue of selflessness, and even though we miss her dearly, we are touched to read about the wide-reaching positive impact she left with so many in the community.

People for Animals extends heartfelt condolences to the Kalmar family, her pets, and all her friends. And we celebrate her compassionate spirit with every animal that we help.

KASHMIR NEEDS A FOSTER HOME: Kashmir is a 7-year-old medium-sized mixed breed, who needs a temporary foster home because his mom is in the process of eviction. Kashmir is a healthy Velcro dog who loves to follow his mom around and just hang out with her at home. He loves bones but can’t do fabric toys. He also loves running in the parks in town. He is fearful of crates and has not been crate-trained but it’s okay; he is potty trained and doesn’t cause any damage to his home, mom’s clothing, or her belongings.

His mom says: "Kashmir is a shy boy and will take time to adjust since he’s lived most of his life in the same house with one person. He would do well with someone with just cats and who wouldn’t mind him sharing a bed or at least being near them when he’s sleeping. I think he would do well with older children since they can more actively play with him. He’s good when I’m at work and has never torn up furniture or clothing. He has learned to watch from the windows like my cats, and likes the curtain open if he’s home alone. He absolutely cannot do fabric toys as he will ingest them instead of just ripping them apart. FOSTER BUDDY & BABZ: Buddy, 7-year-old Corgi Chihuahua mix, and Babz, 5-year-old Toy Chihuahua, need a foster home. ❗️❗️They live with their mom who is now homeless, and she is very worried about the impending summer heat. ❗️❗️They are good on leashes, with kids, cats, dogs, and are respectful of fences. ATN community cat caretakers: next week's walk-in TNR schedule at Hillside will be limited due to staff illness. Service is available on Monday and Tuesday, and resume the following Monday on June 30.

HARMONY NEEDS A FOSTER HOME: Harmony is a 9-year-old mix breed that loves to be with people! Harmony is a very sweet and loving girl. She loves to snuggle and is very gentle. She can also be a goofball at times. She loves music and dancing with her family, and running around in the grass, in the fenced-in yard. She can be a little overwhelmed in crowds of people, and can sometimes be afraid of helium balloons, bubbles, and vacuums.

Harmony loves kids and her fur sister, Nova the cat, and plays really well with her. She can sometimes chase other cats, but she does not try to hurt them. She has found baby birds, mice, and bunnies in the yard and has been so gentle near them, never once trying to hurt them. She does not realize she is a big dog and enjoys the company of dogs of all sizes. She loves to play fetch and go on nature walks.
