This is Diego. He is the son of Shelby and Boomer. Granddaughter of Ginger and Hank. He has spent the past week with us while his family is on vacation. It is so interesting to me as I have observed not only our personal dogs, the dogs we have bread who come back to be boarded with us and the dogs people have brought to us through CPL Red Barn Kennel to board each ones individual personalities. This is Diego sitting on a concrete stepping stone, which seems to be his favorite place to sit. He loves sitting there right by the water faucet. He sat there for the past 45 minutes and watch me cut the grass. Hilarious!

Not quite a year ago Shay (Darla and Boomer’s daughter) was rehomed with a wonderful family. She came back to us on Sunday afternoon to be boarded with us this week while her family is
on vacation.
It took all of about 5 minutes for her to remember me, her old environment and her dog “siblings.”
For the past 2 days she hasn’t left my side as she did when she was here full time. She is physically filling out and I wondered if she still could jump-climb the pasture fences…of course like always!
Her family has done a wonderful job with her and I am blessed to spend this week with her!

So many people get dogs on impulse. Craigslist, parking lot, shelter, or rescue. Their intentions may be good, but impulse buying a pet that will live up to 10+ years is not.

I have nothing against rescued dogs. Most of the dogs I work with are. However, many rescue dogs end up being rehomed several times. They are dumped, surrendered, and put down. Bad genetics, backyard breeding, and people not doing any research is the direct cause of this. I'm not saying you can't find an amazing family dog in the shelter. I run into them all the time. I am saying that research goes a long way when bringing home a new furry friend.

If more people researched pets before getting them, we wouldn't see every single shelter and rescue overflowing with dogs right now.

Put the time into researching a commitment. Just like you would (hopefully) any other big investment.

It is hard to believe that 3 years ago this morning this beautiful girl arrived into this world! Shelby is an awesome dog. We are blessed to have her and to be able to continue this incredible "line" from Hank and Ginger!

They are getting big! Eyes open. Ears should be opening soon. Exploring the whelping box. Shelby is doing really well! This weekend is the move to the Whelping Room! 2 Yellow Males and a Black Female are still available as of this post.

Converse Premium Labs...The Reason We Do What We Do!

Converse Premium Labs is a family business that is run out of our home in Southwestern Ohio with the finest quality, healthy, loving & AKC registered, pure bred Labrador Puppies you will be able to find!

It all started in 1996 when we lived in Alabama when Patch, a Dalmatian and Lab mix, came into our lives. He was all black with the exception of a black dot in a patch of white on his foot and a black dot in the middle of his white patch on his chest. From then on the Converse family was hooked on Labs. We have had Labs throughout the years with having two sets of puppies through our White Lab Izzy with our Black Lab Re*****on. Both of these dogs are AKC pedigree but the paperwork was never applied for.

That brings us to the Summer of 2016! Gina and Bryan were not ready to be “empty nesters” in regards to dogs after the passing of our spaniel, Lady, of 12 years in August 2016. Re*****on and his son, Rugar, were living with our son, Jamey, in Alabama, and Izzy, was living with our daughter, Jodi and son-in-law Connor in Clarksville, Ohio. At first we were going to get a single Lab, so in August 2016 Dixie became a part of our family. On our way home from getting Dixie from a farm in Adams County, Ohio the decision was made to get another pup and the dream of Converse Premium Labs was born. We decide to get another female and to breed both of these pups with our son Josh’s AKC registered Chocolate Lab, Hank. The first weekend of September 2016 our second black, female Lab pup Darla became a Converse.
