Why do mounts take so long to be completed. Here is a perfect example. This buck cape was brought to me straight from the butcher. Most of the brisket is gone. This happened right after the butcher was told by the hunter that he was planning to have a shoulder mount done. New for 2024 and into the future, these buck will be getting a return to hunter tag. This is an absolute waste of time. A Taxidermist can’t add back what is gone. Here at Otter Run we do provide skinning services. Please call us first before the butcher. It saves time and your mount will look great. Don’t let your trophy get butchered.

Well, it’s nice to feel human again. Been down and out for the last three weeks. That was absolutely horrible. My theme song was “down with the sickness.” It felt good to be back in the shop this weekend.

Recently, I finished up this nice Maryland buck. Surprisingly, this guy still had his summer coat. His rack is definitely unique.

The children of the owner to this big guy went to great lengths to make sure this big buck was on the wall Christmas morning. Beautiful buck !!!

It’s been busy here at the Run. I was working on a big buck project recently and I thought I would show you what things should look like behind the curtain. Realism is everything here at Otter Run. If your mounts look round and smooth, the 30-40 years of experience that you are paying for is coming with 30-40 year old techniques. Here at the Run we bring out real life qualities.

I am pleased to announce that Otter Run Taxidermy was approved by the Pennsylvania Game Commission as a CWD Cooperator. This will allow me to accept any animal in the deer family from any location in-state or out-of-state. No more CWD limitations!! Awesomeness!!! 👍

Here is something different that I offer as an option when someone wants a hide tanned. I mount just the head. It gives the empty hide some character which provides more display options versus just hanging. This was a beautiful coyote.

After completing a project, the number one question a customer will ask when I tell them their project is ready for pickup is …..”Can you send me a photo”….The answer is NO !!! Sorry for being so mean!! A pic is not worth a thousand words in the Taxidermy world. Please remain positive. Trust me, the real deal awaits, and the real deal is much better than a sh*tty photo.

This guy went home this morning. This would be a Fisher. In the taxidermy world, these predators are really fun to mount. They have huge paws and their jaw set has death written all over them. Their hide is heavy unlike a fox or coyote , and their hair is soft and smooth.
I believe the season on Fishers is very short, but I would hope most would quietly impose the same season as a coyote. WHOOPS!!! Did I say that out loud?!?! I am so bad. Hahaha!!

This guy went home back in September. If you watch deer as they walk through the woods, their bodies aren’t flat, box like or tube shaped. Deer have a very toned, ripped and defined muscle structure. I like to bring this out in my mounts. Takes them to a higher level of realism.
