“Is animal testing even legal?” “I didn’t think we still did that?” “Why do we even test on animals?”

These are some of the most common questions we get asked at Beagle Freedom Project, and we would like to help clarify some things.

The 1938 Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act requires that every drug be tested on animals — even though more than 90% of drugs found safe and effective in animals fail during human clinical trials.

You read that correctly; over 90% FAIL in human trials! When this depression-era statute was enacted, the only available options at the time were human trials and animal trials. EIGHTY-FOUR YEARS of medical advancements and technologies have been developed since then! More effective, less expensive drug testing methods exist now. For example, this mandate was implemented 20 years before the first modern blood test and 40 years before the modern computer! To give you some more perspective on how we have evolved as a society, In 1938, women did not possess full rights to open a credit card or serve on a jury! Also, in 1938 N***s forced Jews to register their assets!

Since then, we have come a long way as a society, both medically and morally. Our world is continuously changing due to technology, and it’s time to bring testing to the 21st Century! Lift the outdated requirement and allow innovation to flourish. More than 100 MILLION animals worldwide are used in laboratory experiments every year! It’s beyond time to put an end to needless suffering and death.

This is why the FDA Modernization Act must get passed! This Act would eliminate the mandate to test on Animals. This Bi-Partisan act so far has passed unanimously in the Senate; we now need it to pass in the House. Spread it far and wide. Tell your neighbor, tell your friend, shout it from the rooftops if you must.
