There’s a *Game For That* struggle
I’ve been teaching agility classes for over 5 years now, and I’ve met a number of dogs who struggled with calmness, impulse control, and focus. One dog in particular, Chloe, a five year old Border Collie mix, found the whole process of learning so distressing that she lost control and bit me. I had to tell her handler that she couldn’t continue in class, but I never forgot her. I often wondered how I could have helped her. When I found myself with a new agility dog that also struggled with calmness, to the point of injuring himself, I started searching for answers. I found Absolute Dogs in Britain, and through their online training classes, finally understood what was happening in my dog’s brain, and how I could help my own dog, as well as others like Chloe.
Using thoughtfully designed and scientifically-based training games, we can build skills in our dogs such as calmness, optimism, confidence, impulse control, focus and so much more. Knowing “sit” is not going to prepare your dog to make the right choice between you and a running squirrel. But, there is a game for that! No more boring and tedious behavior repetitions, our dogs get to learn by playing with us. How cool is that?!
