06/18/26 โ 7:00 A.M. SEARCH UPDATE โ MISSING 10-YEAR-OLD MITCHELL EVANS
Mitchell has now been missing for more than 15 hours, including overnight. Search efforts continue, and community members are asked to remain alert while helping ensure he is not frightened or encouraged to run.
Throughout the evening, official search teams and law enforcement personnel responded to and checked every reported lead that came in. In addition, numerous community members continued searching nearby roads, trails, neighborhoods, and surrounding areas throughout the night in hopes of locating him safely.
A Nixle alert issued at 6:57 a.m. this morning advised residents of search and rescue activity in the area of the 30500 block of West Highway 20, confirming that Mitchell remains missing and that search efforts are ongoing.
According to family and those familiar with Mitchell:
โข He is non-verbal and uses Proloquo2Go, an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) app on iPhone and iPad devices that helps individuals communicate using symbols and text-to-speech voices.
โข He has wandered away in the past and can run very fast.
โข He is afraid of the dark and may be frightened by loud noises.
โข He is often motivated by snacks and sweets. Family members report that words such as "cookies," "frosting," "cranberries," and other sweet-related terms may be familiar and comforting.
โข He may follow cables, wires, or similar linear features.
โข If approached too aggressively or chased, he may run away either out of fear or because he thinks it is a game.
โ ๏ธ IMPORTANT: If you believe you have located Mitchell, avoid chasing him whenever possible. Instead, maintain visual contact from a safe distance and immediately call 911 so trained search personnel can respond. The goal is to avoid startling him or causing him to run farther away.
Search volunteers have reported that a staging area was established near Summers Lane earlier, and community members have been using CalTopo to coordinate search efforts. However, family members have indicated the command center location may have changed this morning. Anyone wishing to assist should verify current search coordination information with authorities before heading out.
Mitchell's family, search teams, volunteers, and community members remain hopeful and continue working tirelessly to bring him home safely. If you see Mitchell or have any information regarding his whereabouts, call 911 immediately.

Update: As of 10pm, more than 6 hours after he was reporting missing, 10-Year-Old Mitchell Evans is still missing. Multiple agencies continue to search the area and follow any leads or sightings.
Update: As of 7:25 p.m. the child has not been located.
Update: As of 6:14 p.m. the Child has not been located. His name is "Mitchell Evans". Around 5:32 p.m. the child's grandmother confirmed he had not been found. Around 5:45 p.m Search & Rescue started to gather. Photo added.
FORT BRAGG, Calif. โ Authorities are searching for a missing 10-year-old non-verbal autistic child who was reported missing Wednesday afternoon in the Fort Bragg area.
According to information released by the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office through a Nixle alert, the child was last seen in the 30500 block of West Highway 20 near Fort Bragg. The initial report was received at approximately 3:26 p.m. on June 17, 2026, and a public alert was issued at 4:51 p.m.

The child's mother was reportedly out searching for him as authorities and community members began efforts to locate the missing juvenile.
The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office is asking residents in the area to remain vigilant and immediately report any sightings or information that could assist in locating the child. Community members are encouraged to check yards, outbuildings, vehicles, wooded areas, and other locations where a child may seek shelter or wander.
Due to the child's age and non-verbal status, authorities are emphasizing the importance of quickly reporting any possible sightings.
