Out on an animal tracking & nature studies hike we found these familiar friends as we traversed above and below the recent snow line following Turkey and Bear.

Slow ambling brought us within 20yards of some living turkeys and the speed we were moving did some good work on our minds as our thoughts cleared the dust of the city and we pondered again humans healthy role with the natural world.

Oren and the many chiefs and clan mothers he speaks for has and continues to be an orienting force for us at MNC. Always a clear, simple and perpetually powerful message. A good message that when held up against the trials humanity is facing we can see the many benefits of taking action along his orientations.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you Oren Lyons for standing up today and reminding us: We have a big fight on our hands now, to save this planet and save the natural home of all our community - plants, animals, water and air- not just humans! Thank you for reminding us that PEACE is the only way we will accomplish this. We must unify around these good goals, and walk together into the future, whatever it brings. We trust in your knowledge, and we follow you on this path.

Fly well brother Chalo. Many good times we had planting seeds, tending the plants and living close to the land. You were such a passionate man with a reverence for Mother Earth. We will miss you and can still feel your spirit in the wind soaring big lines in the sky. You were a man that carried the teachings and worked to embody land stewardship and community building and making space for all species. You were also an inspiration to so many and supported many great initiatives in the world. Glad to have walked by your side at different moments over the years.

Chalo Li Wells Once upon a time Chris Wells was pushing me to do a camp for young men in northern New Mexico. The Tracking Project was just beginning to do youth camps and work with Native youth and elders.

We called it Hawkeye Training and held the first year at the Lama Foundation. Chalo came to camp that first year and we took this classic "Uncle / Nephew" photo.

He came to Hawkeye three or four more times and in 2000 came on as a staff member.

We had plenty of years to connect since that time, mostly by phone when he was down in Mexico or traveling.

A few weeks ago, In early February , Chalo called. He was saying "All I want to do is go traveling with you, Uncle, maybe go to Hawai'i or Tahiti and we can do a healing and say the Thanksgiving Address..."

Sorry we never got to do that, Chalo, but we did a lot of cool things together and you will be with me forever.

Aloha
