Independence Day is a couple days away. If your dog is afraid of the fireworks, give them a safe spot to go. A closet or a covered crate works great. Don’t coddle them. Let them have their space. When you pet, talk or smother the dog, it exacerbates their fear. You can also get some cbd oil. I prefer the cbd oil over chews because the oil absorbs in to the gums when you administer it and chews get broken down by the acids in their stomachs and may be less effective. Keep your fearful pets inside. So many cats and dogs get lost during the 4th of July. Keep them safe keep them inside! Happy 4th and stay safe!

I do not like dog parks and I will stand on that hill until the day I die. Do not….and I repeat, do not use dog parks as a way of socializing your dog. Dog parks are a breeding ground for illness and fights.

STOP PUTTING PUPPIES IN BOXES. it’s terrifying for the puppy even if it is for a minute. It’s especially terrifying when the box opens and there is a dog staring at it. Just stop!!

I started teaching her this before we left Florida. Hadn’t really practiced it as she hurt her knee when we first moved to texas. Here she is with the cue “back” while we are walking in a heel position. She also knows “back” when she’s in front of me or I want her a few steps away from me.

Aside from The 4th of July, this is another time of year people will be lighting off fireworks. If your dog is scared of fireworks, they tend to run.

You can take precautions with your pets by doing the following:

1) keep them inside.
2) give them a safe place to go and hide. This could be a crate, closet or under the bed.
3) if they hide, leave them alone. If you constantly pet them and tell them they are ok, you are essentially keeping the fear alive.
4) calming chews or CBD oil work great to keep your dog calm. Do not get CBD oil in petco or petsmart. They aren’t true CBD oils. A true CBD oil can cost from 40.00-60.00. They tend to sell them in mom and pop pet shops and smaller pet store chains.

If anyone want recommendations on which CBD oil or calming chews to get, just ask. I am happy to help keep your pups safe.

I say this ALL the time. It doesn’t work!! They have accident because WE are lazy and don’t want to get up to let them out or walk them. A dog has a way of telling you they have to go potty. If your dog doesn’t whine or sit by the door or have another way of yelling you then bell train or wireless doorbell train.

I had the honor to train with this pup and his mom while I was a dog trainer at the Boynton Beach Petco in Florida. He was a smart boy and always made me smile no matter how bad of a day I was having. He always had a smile on his face. He was always eager to learn new things. Sometimes I thought he was too smart for his own good.

In the past few days All Joys mom reported that he wasn’t well. X-rays showed he had a fishhook in his digestive system. Facebook friends from near and far all prayed for him as he underwent surgery to remove a fishhook from his bowels. It tore them up pretty bad. He survived the surgery but was not out of the woods yet. His mom took him back to the vet a couple more times this week as he wasn’t doing well at all. Unfortunately, All Joy succumbed to infection that tore through his bowels after surgery.

I am sad that he will no longer be able to lift people up as he did me once a week. Such a happy dog. Nina was the best mom to AJ and I cannot thank her enough for giving him all the love and care a dog deserves. Say a prayer for Nina tonight as she mourns the loss of her friend and companion for many years.

This world needs more dogs like All Joy.

I cannot stress enough how much consistency is key when working with your dog. Inconsistency leads the dog to repeat the unwanted behavior. If you are trying to correct an unwanted behavior, such as jumping or counter surfing, you HAVE to correct it the same way EVERY SINGLE TIME. Stop telling your dog “off” or “.no”. It doesn’t work.

Keep your pets inside on 4th of July. A lot of pets go missing due to the fireworks. If your dog (or cat) is terrified, give them a safe place to go. A crate or a closet is best. Buy some calming chews or cbd oil. Those 2 things help depending on the dog. If you are going to buy CBD oil, make sure you consult with your vet before doing so.

My last dog training session in Florida was with these 2 pups.

Leelo is a year old Italian mastiff who follows most her brothers actions. We taught leelo to sit, down, stay, wait, leave it and “place”.

Malekai has already been through training classes so it was a matter of reinforcing what he already knew.

They both improved tremendously over the past 4 weeks with their greeting when someone comes through the door as well as other manners.

Thanks to these pups pet parents for working hard to achieve their goals with Leelo and Malekai.

Meet Nala. She is a husky/shepherd mix that Is about 5 months old. Her BFF is Jocko and they completed a class with me learning lots of basic behaviors. She learned how to sit, lay down, wait, stay, leash manners, stay with distractions ,recall and recall with distractions She’s a smart little girl. She may look like a husky but she learns like a shepherd. She’s a sweet girl who loves her snacks. Welcome to the Lucy’s way dog training family!

This cute little guy is Jocko. He is just shy of 6 month old. He did a class with me and his best friend Nala ( moms and dads too). He is so smart. He learned to sit, lay down, leave it, drop it, come when called, come when called with distractions, wait, stay and walk on a leash. We did stays with distractions and even played hide and seek with mom and dad. He is a typical corgi that does things when he wants to from time to time lol. Congratulations to Stormy on completing basic obedience classes. We started her journey over 6 weeks ago in a group class. She has learned how to sit, lay down, leave objects, heel, come when called and wait. She’s a smart pup who is a tad stubborn at times but we love her anyway. Out of 5 dogs, stormy stuck it out to the end to finish classes. Her pet parents now have a better foundation to work off of to make Stormy the best pup she can be.

Congratulations to this handsome guy, Chopper. Over the last 4 weeks we worked with chopper to build a better foundation so his reaction to other dogs was better. He would get so excited to see other dogs that he screamed and pulled trying to greet that dog. He now knows how to walk on a leash properly, wait at the door to prevent door dashing, leave it, come when called, stay, sit and down. Today, Ophelia was able to get very close to him while walking without a reaction from him. She was also able to lay down about 6 feet from him without a reaction from him. His family has been doing an outstanding job at guiding Chopper in the right direction when on walks. He’s the best boy!

I am now making epoxy resin dog tags. Small is 1-1/2x1-1/4 and the larger is 2-1/4x1-1/2. I can do practically any color. Small tag is $7.00 and the larger tag is $10.00. Shipping included. This cute little guys name is Maxwell. He is 12 weeks old. We just finished 4 weeks of training with basic cues. A god foundation for manners is important as it not only teaches the pup manners but it also sets boundaries between the pup and his pet parents. It also builds a bond between the pup and his pet parents.
