We found mama Mae an today. She absolutely adores it and has been carrying it around everywhere. Hopefully this will help her cope with losing her sweet angle baby 😔

Mae gave birth to the most beautiful black little girl around 2am. Unfortunately, she was born sleeping and nothing we tried was successful in bringing her back.

We've lost our fair share of newborns over the years, but this one hits harder. Maybe it's because she's exactly what I was hoping for. Maybe it's because she's a singleton. Maybe it's because I have no idea how to help Mae grieve.

Life sucks sometimes.

We're back home, little reindeer nugget still baking away in there. One of it's kidneys was not as pronounced as the vet would've liked to have seen, so we opted to wait it out rather than doing a c-section and taking it too soon.

Mama Mae has been nesting a bit and all signs seem to point to her starting early labor. She's settled into her self appointed "nest" in my office and we're ready for the waiting and watching!

Don't let her look of utter despair fool you, she was absolutely thrilled to go for a car ride this morning and had to be extra when we arrived... barking at everyone and everything 🙄

Today was puppy count x-ray day with my girl 🖤🩻

Unfortunately for those eagerly waiting their newest family member, this is very disappointing news. 😔

This is a first for us here - our smallest litter before was 7 (not a small litter by any means!).

Just like huge litters, singleton puppies also come with risks during birth. We're praying the little nugget stays small enough that it can be whelped naturally and that her hormone levels drop low enough that her body goes into labor naturally. 🙏🏻

We have a back up plan in place, just in case, and will be taking her in for an ultrasound on Christmas Eve to check on the puppy's development and do an elective c-section if it's far enough along. 🎄

It's safe to say this little nugget will be spoiled rotten! ❤️
