The face of an angel😇

We just love Rusty ❤️❤️he is a small dog with some pretty big attitude!! That’s ok with us because we like him just that way !!

This little toy poodle mix is 8 years old and only about 9 pounds - it took us awhile to figure him out but we know what we have.

Rusty wants to make his own choices - he will sit on your lap but he’d like to be the one making the decision!! He wants to be treated like a big dog not a little dog and we respect his feelings.

Rusty loves a short walk and is great in the car. He will be ok with another calm dog but we think he would be best as an only dog. No children for him and we are unsure about cats .

We do know that he is a lovable dog inside just waiting for someone to give him a little patience.
Rusty’s whole world was turned upside down when his family brought him to the shelter but we know that his forever may be waiting just around the corner.

In July of 2023 we left with two very sick little dogs from the AHS Newark branch. Sometimes we can’t get them well enough to be adopted and they join our hospice program❤️❤️❤️

We would never have imagined that they would be with us as long as they have but we sure are happy about it❤️❤️❤️

Martha and Wheezy are getting the very best of veterinary care at Rockaway Animal Hospital and are blessed with two very special foster families who get them back and forth to their veterinary appointments and make sure they get what they need!!

I guess when there is love there is always hope❤️❤️

Adopt Miss Penny ❤️🎄❤️

Penny came to us from our friends at the Northern Ocean County Animal Shelter. She is a rat terrier who was found as a stray already missing her right rear leg.

Penny is spunky, fun and a joy to be around!! From the moment we spotted her looking out of her kennel run balancing one one leg - we knew she was a dog we wanted to meet!!

Penny has the attitude of a survivor she isn’t going to let anything get her down!!

We had such a wonderful family who wanted to adopt her but after a few attempts it was obvious their 15 year old would not accept Penny. They were heartbroken as were we - she is a love and so deserving of a family of her own.
Dogs ok but no cats for Penny !!
Penny is about 5 years old and only 10 pounds.
She is wonderful in her crate and has a lovely temperament.

🆘 Foster Needed for Brody 🆘

It’s very sad for us to see a dog that has always lived in a home in boarding. He clings to us when we try to leave him because he is so afraid.

Brody was a family pet who lived in his home for 2 years. He was returned to us and is currently undergoing 3 weeks of training so we can see exactly what he needs.
We think having another dog would benefit him. He attended doggy day care regularly and it seemed to bring him comfort.

Brody is a border collie/australian shepherd mix. He is a herding breed and we would love to find someone with breed experience.
We are looking for a quiet home for him to gain his confidence with a loving and patient family.

Pumpkin is on the mend!!

We are especially grateful tonight to Dr Dubos and everyone at Rockaway Animal Hospital for taking such good care of Pumpkin.

Thanks for getting Pumpkin in right away and giving her such great care!! Her foster family can’t wait to get her home and appreciate all the calls to keep them informed.

Out and about today with Brody and Kyla!!!

Kyla enjoys the company of all of her walking partners. With each walk we realize that she just wasn’t sure what to do !! Walking with and by other dogs has become easy peasy for her !!

We are learning much about Brody too and we know for sure he is a very loving dog. More to come as we spend more and more time together.
Time spent with these two was such a pleasure today even though it was a little windy!!! 🌬️

Beautiful Nikki told Santa her greatest wish was to find a home of her very own 🎄🎄🎁🎁

This 2-3 year old husky/hound mix has been lovingly cared for in a great foster home. She has shown us that she is just the right mix of energy and calm.
Nikki is active enough to give you exercise but when home she turns into a couch potato!! She is house and crate trained. Nikki is non destructive in the home and absolutely wonderful with everyone she meets !!

We frequently visit the same shelters so we are always sad when we go and see the same dogs - month after month. All waiting for their turn. This dog has truly touched our hearts.

Rosie was surrendered to the shelter with her sister back in September. Her sister was rescued rather quickly but she is still waiting.

Rosie is 7 years old and petite. She is only 35 pounds. She is reactive to other dogs at the shelter but did live with one. She is great on leash, takes treats gently and has a lovely temperament.

Rosie has had some health issues and even had surgery to remove a calcified cyst. Unfortunately she had to recuperate in the shelter.
Her cyst has come back as pre cancer but her prognosis is very good. Rosie will have to be on urinary food for the rest of her life but what a lovely companion she will make for a lucky person or persons.

Her prior owners said that she is wonderful with kids and all people.
Please consider fostering sweet Rosie so that we can take her from the shelter. Boarding is not an option for her - we need a committed foster.

How does a dog rescue wind up with so many cats you ask?
It is because of the dedication and the truly compassionate heart of one of our board members. She is committed to spaying and neutering and while trapping found 7 beautiful but very sick kittens. These kittens had varying degrees of veterinary issues which we addressed.
They were lovingly cared for until they were healthy enough to be spayed and neutered. They could never be returned to their colony and they are not feral.
We are looking for homes for these kittens in pairs as they are so bonded to each other.

Behind every cat/kitten story we have - including sick and dying ones is this same person. We are grateful everyday for our volunteers - who turn their lives upside down so that an animal in need can breathe easier and have the life they deserve❤️❤️
