Downtown Gilbert Barbershop 💈
The Downtown Gilbert Barber Shop opened its doors in 1947 and is the longest consistently running business in the Heritage District. 💈
For generations, it’s been a gathering spot for Gilbert residents of all ages to come together, share their stories, and get their hair done.
Jose “Joe” Gonzales took over the shop in 1951 when he was in his early 20s. At the time, Gilbert had less than 2,000 residents. Joe was a husband, father and proud World War II veteran. He rarely missed a day of work until the age of 80. Joe passed away in March 2013 at the age of 85.
Today, his children, Raul Gonzales and Amelia Pace, run the business. Together, they are keeping their father’s dream and legacy alive.
The Downtown Gilbert Barbershop welcomes clients daily. Many members of the Gilbert community have been customers, including police chiefs, educators and well-known families like the Neelys and Morrisons.
