This new owner doesn't know when this little lady was trimmed last. All she knew was that she needed one BAD. I stuck with a more conservative trim today due to her thin soles. Her trot off back out in pasture proved that she appreciated it!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of shoeing a few horses and learning a new shoeing technique in the process! I have to admit, though it is tough on the body, I love putting on shoes! Now we wait 5 weeks to see what changes have been made...😬😍

Another day, another set of Versa Grips for lovely TB 😍 we pulled hinds a few months back, but due to some issues we decided it was best to put them back on. Since his new shoes, he is now fully comfortable and very happy! Its okay to try new things just as long as you can also accept when those things are not working as you had hoped. A solid bare foot will come. Some horses just adjust quicker than others and that's okay 💜

When you have leftover material, you obviously use it to practice on your own horse. Duh 💁‍♀️

On a side note, Perfect Hoof Wear is a great alternative to glue on casting! The material is super easy to work with and the horses love it.

I will be in the Winston / Greensboro area next Thursday August 24th and have some availability for a fitting!

If you're interested in getting your horse sized for Scoot Boots, send me a PM and let's get started! The ideal time for a fitting is 1-2 weeks after a trim on a 4-5 week cycle. I have all sizing shells to ensure we find the best boot & fit for your horse but please be prepared to send measurements of your horses feet so I can be as prepared as possible with ready to ride boots 😁

I still try to make my glue look as perfect as other professionals, but I'm just not fast enough for this fast set glue 🤣 as long as they stay on and benefit the horse!

Each and every trim since December has been an improvement. This boy is starting to build digital cushion, sole and concavity. While I hoped that we had built more heel than we have, I know that it'll come along in due time. For now, be gone mile long toe!

One year update 👏

I know the first photo is technically July 2022, but for some reason I never got an initial photo in June.

One year of ups and downs. Never testing on hoof testers. Clean x-rays and a ton of (deserved) attitude. This mid 20's mare who has never had heel on her LF, FINALLY HAS HEEL! Is it perfect? Nah, but that's a hell of a lot of progress considering how long she has been compensating with this extremely low heel. This lady is moving so much better, still struggles somewhat making sharp turns, but with bodywork she continues to make more and more progress each month.

She is the perfect case of "lameness doesn't always originate in the foot" as I believe that she has been dealing with shoulder/ thoracic sling issues for the majority of her life. Once those issues are addressed, true rehab can begin. It's horses like this that keep me going ♥️

Nap time...interrupted

But seriously. A little massage and Tensegrity Balancing for this dude made for a MUCH easier trim for the both of us.

If the feet are in good condition and your horse is still struggling to stand for the Farrier, have a Bodyworker out a couple of days before! We all hold compensation in our bodies and deserve to feel relief ♥️

For the first time in my life and for these guys (since I've owned them), my horses are officially on 24h turnout. This makes my life so much easier and I figured it's time to stop being a hypocrite. I urge everyone to turn their horses out as much as possible. It's time to get over my fears of what might happen in the dark of the night and let them be horses. This is day 3 and I think they are enjoying it. I looks like my mare (middle) is relaxing more and laying down more often. I'm very blessed to have this indoor/paddock layout where they can go in and out as they please when the weather is nasty like today & tomorrow. Here's to letting go of our fears, letting horses be horses and creating a happy and healthy environment for everyone ♥️

Ahh, I remember like it was yesterday when this little donk was just NOT having it for his hoof trim. Some people don't like implementing food to help horses/donkeys through their hoof trims, but I don't see why. This guy is SO much better now that he can much while I work and we're both a lot happier 🤣

Bye bye shoes 🤗

Can you see how much hoof was able to come off? Now, I'm not sure what the time frame is between this horse's last shoeing and when my trim, but that's a lot of foot! Also note, this horse was standing comfortably with the leg father back and not so far underneath. It's the little wins for a first trim 🥰

"What have you done to my horse?!"

There's one horse that I've been trimming since June of 2022 (so not long) that has always struggled standing comfortably for trims. Now, I do my very best to contort my body in weird ways to ensure the comfort of the horse but my usual tricks weren't working. We tried casting, composite shoes, boots, you name it. She would do well for about a month or so and then she would become extremely lame but I could never find anything in the hoof that stood out enough to cause that much lameness. We got a vet out to do x-rays to ensure that there wasn't something crazy going on inside the hoof (the rads were clean for this to be a horse in her 20's and NO navicular damage was noted despite her previous diagnosis years ago). Rads also showed that there was a ton of sole depth in both fronts so we had room to make some nice changes in one trim. She started moving quite nicely after that and then about a month later, reverted back to her hobbled walk. Just over a month ago I decided to utilize some of the bodywork that I'm learning. She seemed to enjoy it but it didn't show any immediate results. Fast forward to yesterday, I show up and ask "has she gotten any worse" because I don't want to get my hopes up. The owner responded that she was actually moving MUCH better 🤗 so before her trim, I did some light massage work on her shoulders and got some really positive responses! Halfway through the trim her owner said (in the most positive way) "what have you done to my horse?!" This horse went from not being able to stand on 3 legs for longer than 20s, constant ear pinning, biting at the lead and sometimes the owner, to a completely relaxed face and comfortably standing for a few minutes at a time ♥️ she still has a ways to go with her feet and body, but the progress that she has made so far is incredible! Bodywork isn't always a luxury, sometimes it's necessary to make progress in equine rehab. I am beyond grateful to be able to apply Tensegrity Balancing Therapy as well as some massage therapy to my horses as well as my client's horses and am excited to see the continued results of this bodywork/hoof care combo.

It was an amazing weekend learning under Elkayam Equine Therapy and completing the Level 1 portion of Tensegrity Balancing Therapy. I am so excited to be able to soon offer bodywork to clients alongside hoof care. Uneven horses create uneven feet and vice versa. Bodywork is truly a key component to hoof rehab ❤️

The faces of Fly during some bodywork yesterday ☺️
Bodywork is SUCH a game changer and is why I will soon start offering it to my clients. If the body doesn't move the way that it should, the feet will suffer and vice versa. If your horse's feet are struggling and you've checked all other boxes, give a bodyworker a call ❤️

This is something that has been weighing heavy on my heart for some time now. I'm not the best with words so this post might be all over the place and for that, I apologize.

Making minor weekly adjustments to one of my personal horses. This horse is everything that no one wants in a horse. She's a cribber, weaver, anxious, hard keeper and body sore constantly. Her feet reflect all of these things. Contracted heels (still), thrush comes and goes as well as heel first landings. Consistency and progress is difficult to achieve when there are so many things going against you.

Hoof care, especially rehab, isnt always easy. It is important to assess the whole horse and get a game plan to make all of the necessary changes (pasture mates, diet, exercise, bodywork, supplements, etc) for the benefit of the horse. My mare is now getting bodywork, working on rebuilding her body properly starting with Celeste-Leilani Lazaris Balance Through Movement Method and has had an herbal regimen change. I am finally starting to see progress. She's more relaxed most days, more fluid throughout her body AND she's been spotted taking a nap which is major progress. I don't have "before" pics so these will have to do. She used to have thrush in both, now it's really just one. Both feet used to be crazy out of balance and now it's just one(remember, shes a weaver). She's slowly building more sole depth and digital cushion. These are all positive changes that keep me going.

I used to think that if I could fix the feet that would fix the body. Well, in some cases it might but not all. Hoof care and bodywork go hand in hand. If you really want to see progress in your horses feet, get a knowledgeable bodyworker out. If you want to see progress in your horses body, get a knowledgeable hoof care professional out. They say no hoof, no horse and while that is true, if one thing is out of wack, everything is.

So, if you feel like you're stuck in the mud, pun intended, take a step back, reevaluate and consider using a different approach. No one thing works for every horse and some horses require so much more than others. Don't be afraid to try new things when past methods are no longer working.

August 1 ➡️ November 30th

This guy makes Laminitis Rehab look easy! 4 weeks ago he shed a huge chunk of laid over bar on the lateral side but wasn’t yet ready to let go of the medial side. This cycle he was! Bye bye useless bar and hello to a halfway normal looking hoof!

I walked into this barn yesterday and told the owner “I doubt there will be much of a change because she is still landing toe first” 😂 I was at a complete loss of words when i compared her pre trim (post cast) photo with her august photo. I didn’t get a photo in September before I put casts on and now I wish I would have.
She still has a long way to go, but progress is progress! Yet again, I am amazed at what the body can do once you provide a little bit of comfort 🥰
