For the good of the horse
After doing bodywork with hundreds of horses, I have observed they mostly accept their compensations, stiffness, and other irregularities. They know they are okay as they are. Many discover the pleasure in bodywork and the releases it brings, and as we build a relationship based on trust and respect, allow me a bit further in with each session.
Bodywork is a human agenda. We want our horses to feel better, perform better, heal, endure stall rest, or whatever. With this insight, I approach each horse with respect every time I step into their personal space. As they get to know me, they usually relax more easily into the bodywork. But if I have learned anything, and I learn something from every session, it’s that horses are different every day and every moment, and my job is to learn their (body) language and understand as much about them as I possibly can.
Barbara Breckenfeld of Movement in Balance practices equine bodywork with equines of all breeds and disciplines throughout the Puget Sound region of Western Washington from her base in Kitsap County. She also offers clinics in equine bodywork for horse owners, and travels to do bodywork and to teach. Supporting each horse to find their natural balance, Barbara's sessions work with fascia and tissues to release restrictions and resulting compensations in movement using Equine Craniosacral Therapy, structural integration (aka myofascial release), Tui-na (manual therapy aspect of Chinese Medicine), and energy work (Reiki). This powerful combination helps horses to move, respond, and perform better. As simple as it sounds, the results can be profound. Clients say, “Since you worked on my horse, he is . . . more forward, moves off my leg better, more fluid, less stiff, jumping higher, goes straighter, happier on the trails, longer stride, coming over the back better, looks younger, no longer tripping, more patient with people, more confident, more balanced at the canter.” Movement in Balance offers: - Complimentary 20-minute phone call to talk about bodywork for your horse, coaching you to do bodywork with your horse, or hosting a clinic. Please email to schedule. - Bodywork sessions for horses (packages available); - Bodywork sessions with your horse including coaching for you to do bodywork with your horse; - Bodywork clinics starting with an intro, then sessions to learn more strokes, practice with coaching, learn horses' body language, practice awareness of personal energy with horses. Please call/text 425-260-0784 or email [email protected] for more information or to schedule your complementary phone call. Barbara Breckenfeld is nationally certified by NBCAAM, licensed as a LAMP in Washington, and an Equine Structural Integration Practitioner certified by the Equine Natural Movement School. She became a horsewoman in 1993 when a handsome dapple-gray won her heart and introduced her to dressage. Barbara's calm, grounded presence and healing energy benefits horses as they relax into connection with her.
