For Easter this year, the Mobile Cat Society had a fundraiser where they would come out and hide eggs for your kids Saturday night, so that the youngin's could have a Easter egg hunt today.
I don't have youngin's but I do have dogs, and when I asked if they would hide eggs for my dogs, it was an enthusiastic yes!
Thank you so much to the dogs Nene Courtney Nicole Parker for volunteering to hide the pups eggs. They had an absolute BLAST!!

MID DAY NAP!
It has been a gross day, so I decided to do calming training sessions, obedience sessions, enrichment with puzzles, and some free play with their stuffies to wear the dogs out.
Having working dogs has really taught me the importance of teaching a dog to chill, as much as any other type of training. Proper mental stimulation, including teaching them how to relax can wear a dog out more than physical exercise.
Every dog here is at a different level of training overall, but everyone knows how to relax.
Beyonce ( Black and white dog), had been at the shelter almost a year when I brought her here to get her out for a bit, do some testing, and a little training. She had behavioral problems indicative of a young active dog that had been in a small run for almost a year. It was clear she wanted to please, she just hadn't been taught that being calm was the key to interacting with people. She was constantly over stimulated and bored. She taught herself how to self sooth by spinning and barking, especially when people and other dogs walked past her, not making her very attractive to potential adopters. In a very short period of time she has come a very long way in learning to relax and decompress! She is going to be a great adventure dog for a lucky adopter!
Stryker (Longcoated German Shepherd) from the shelter had issues with other dogs. Part of it was he was getting overly excited and overly stimulated when he saw dogs. It manifested into aggressive reactivity not uncommon in some GSDs. With allot of work, and teaching him to relax and focus on me, he was able to get to know the other dogs, and he bonded great with certain ones. He is dog selective, but once he knows them and likes them, he acts like a big puppy. He is fine with the ones he knows, but clearly doesn't want to be friends with, when they are walking by him or are in a crate next to him. He just doesn't want to be friends. Where his major issue is at is with new dogs. He can be highl
FOSTERS WANTED!
Help us raise the next generation of heros! We have litter of lab puppies that will need fosters in April.
We are looking for foster families to help us raise pups from 8 weeks to 6 months old, when they will be ready to come back to our facility to train as working K9s for a variety of different jobs including search and rescue and detection work.
Food, training toys, crate, medical care and all other puppy essentials will be provided. You will be required to attend a private once weekly training class with your foster puppy to work with us on weekly training goals.
This program has been rewarding to our fosters, who get to learn more about dog training, working K9s, puppy development, and the knowledge that they have been one of the most important parts of training a K9 hero.
This is a highly valuable program that allows us to help fulfill a growing need for working K9s.
Unless you are an experienced working K9 trainer or handler with references, you must be within an hour of Theodore, AL, be willing to do a weekly training session here with us at our facility, and be willing to take your puppy to needed vet appointments Highlands Veterinary Hospital .
If interested either email [email protected] or text 251-377-4180
Join us tonight on our evening walk at Folklore Canine.

Me just petting a dog, right? That's what it looks like but it's so much more.
Tallulah is a board and train that is coming to the end of her time here at Folklore Canine. Tallulah was FERAL when she came here, and I mean that in the very real sense of the word. Her owners found her almost dead from starvation and parasites hiding in their garage earlier this year, and I'm sure the only reason they were able to catch her is because she was so weak she physically couldn't run from them. If you even looked at her she defecated and urinated on herself, she was so shut down she just hid as far away from me as she could, absolutely lost it in leash gator rolling and screaming, any movement or noise from me sent her into panic flight mode, and she would not even eat if you were in the same room with her.
Fast forward 8 weeks and look at at her! Every dog is different and I wasn't sure how she would respond or how far I could get with her. I promised her owner I'd do my best and look at her now!
Tonight for the first time she JUMPED UP ON ME wanting treats and attention. Tallulah has made so much progress, she is now comfortable in a home environment and wants to interact, she politely naps at my feet without worry, she is able to go into play groups, and comes to her name when I call her in the backyard and in the house, and she loves walks!
Dog training isn't a one size fits all profession, and you have to tailor your program to the dog in front of you. Tallulah's goals and expectations were much different from a regular board and train, and she has made leaps and bounds. Typically I wouldn't encourage a dog to put their feet in my lap, but this is such a major milestone, she can do it as much as she likes. She WANTS to be with people, get love, and treats. While not every case like Tallulah's has such a positive outcome, we absolutely love it when they happen. She now has a new leash on life, and is a much happier and less stressed out dog.
What a good gir
Morning walk at Camp Folklore Canine.
Well that's a thing Nox ( Valkyrie x Rush) does at 12 weeks now 😳. I walked in earlier and found her walking all over the crate. I decided to see if she would do it again for me and she did not not disappoint. This little girl is going to be one to keep a close eye on!

Nox ( Valkyrie x Rush August 2023)
11 weeks
Learning to retrive with terrain change and tall bushes.
Since this is such a new concept I am doing very short distance throws in environments I have allot of control over. I will repeat this several times in different areas, just to help her generalize the concept. Then we will move forward with more distance before adding more duration and distractions. I do this with all my baby dogs, and it makes the picture much clearer for the dog, and makes training smoother. This will be built upon until she is doing big retrives ( 200 + yards in some cases) over terrain like heavy brush, across roads, through water, up and down rolling hills ect. I teach them to love it early, and build up their stamina so they can more easily transition to bigger concepts. I really didn't put much hunt work into this session, I have been doing that separately. I just haven't gotten it on video yet. We will add the hunt and retrieve together once she is doing well with both. If she stumbles during training, I just go to the last concept she was successful at, get a small win, and call it a good day.
And as always at this age keep your session short, positive, and FUN! Let your puppy be a puppy. They should be having fun exploring the world and enjoying learning. At this age I'm going to play up and hone in on their natural abilities as well. These are the traits that were selected for in a breed, Nox is a labrador, and she has a strong desire to retrive. I play up on that natural desire, which will eventually become very useful for training as a detection dog and in hunt test.
Way to go baby Nox!

Playing on some of the search and rescue agility equipment. She is very outgoing and fearless!
A walk with board and train Tallulah.
It seems like a very basic concept, but for this girl, this walk is a break through. Tallulah came in last week for our 6 week board and train program terrified of the world, and would go into absolute panic mode on leash. She would gator roll, and potty all over herself. Tallulah was found as a stray almost dead from sickness and starvation, and she was feral. He owners have gone above and beyond to help Tallulah, and here at Folklore Canine, we want to help her be more comfortable and happy in her new life. We have been building trust in each other this week, and it's working. This wasn't a long walk, but it was a huge milstone for this girl!
Boarding client Punkin getting some morning exercise in with puppy push-ups! Did you know we do a limited in home boarding program? Pups get to enjoy a home away from home environment, with plenty of playtime and fun!
