We love that we get to play with pups like him for a living and that we help give him the exercise and mental stimulation he needs! And if you know Jack Russells, you know that means he needs variety and he makes every moment fun and exciting! 🎾💚

Equipaws Kitty Spotlight: Chloe!
All of our team members have the cutest pets, and we just had to share Chloe, our office coordinator Alex’s awesome kitty- especially when she showed us how much Chloe loves cat TV on YouTube. 😻
Alex says, “She gets obsessed with things and ever since I started playing cat tv for her she sits on that piece of furniture and looks at me, looks at the tv, then back at me and so on and so forth until I turn it on for her. 🤣”
More about Chloe:
Adopted by pet parent Alex (our amazing office coordinator) when she was just 2 months old, Chloe is a true momma’s girl at heart. ♥️ This little huntress is equal parts sassy and playful. When she’s not practicing her stealthy moves, she can be found loafing on her heating pad on the couch. She is very vocal and loves to cuddle as well. She loves being brushed and will purr up a storm! Don’t get too close to mom though, this little lady can be quite possessive and territorial too. 😤
Don’t you just love her beautiful little eyes?! 🥹 Who else puts cat TV on for their kitties? 💚🥰.

❗️𝐍𝐨𝐰’𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐲! 🇺🇸❗️💥 July 4th and 5th are some of the busiest days in animal shelters and vet clinics. 💔 The fireworks stress dogs out and make pets more likely to bolt in fear. 😔 Please follow these tips to keep them safe this Independence Day!
* Check your dog’s collar for ID tags, ensure they’re microchipped, & make sure your dog’s collars and harnesses fit well.
* Secure your yard (close any holes) and your gates before going out to the backyard
* Supervise your dogs and keep them on a leash AT ALL times when you’re outdoors or in the backyard.
* Please don’t take your dogs to fireworks displays if they’re afraid of them.
* Miamians set off fireworks early, so exercise your dogs more intensely early in the day.
* Don’t walk dogs during fireworks- take them to their backyard for a quick potty/poop break then back in.
* Bring in your outdoor cats
* Create a safe space for your dogs and cats to retire to with treats, Kongs, and toys
* Turn on the TV, radio, or Alexa to help drown out the loud fireworks, and close your curtains when you notice fireworks
* If your pet is scared of noises, now‘s the time to talk to your vet about medications. Rescue Remedy and CBD Oil work for some, but vets can provide something stronger if needed.
* Stay with them instead of going out. Your presence and tons of cuddles will help more than you know. 💚
What else do you do to help your pets during the more intense parts of fireworks?

𝐏𝐒𝐀: Don’t let your dogs out alone into your backyard. 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑. 𝐁𝐮𝐟𝐨 𝐓𝐨𝐚𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞. 🐸
If there’s one thing we want to stress to you during Miami’s rainy season, it’s to NEVER leave your dogs alone in your backyard. 🥺
This toad was literally hopping around the yard in broad daylight. All it takes is your dog picking the toad up because they think they found a fun toy or who is just exploring with his mouth, and you have a life-threatening issue due to the toxins these toads secrete from parotid glands on either side of their eyes.
The convenience of leaving your dogs alone in the yard while you have breakfast or get ready for work is NOT worth it. Being on your phone and not paying attention is also a no-no. 🙅🏽♀️
These are some signs of Bufo toad poisoning:
“Within minutes of licking or ingesting a toad, drooling and frothing at the mouth occur. The gums may become very red and signs of pain, including pawing at the mouth or vocalizing, may be seen. Vomiting and diarrhea are common.”
If your dog bites down on a Bufo toad, wipe their mouths out with fresh moistened towels for at least 15 minutes to wipe out any of the toxin—rub the gums, teeth, tongue, cheeks, and replace the towels or moistened paper towels after every wipe. And get on the phone with your veterinarian while you do it so you can get them seen asap.
If you find a toad and you can’t grab it the way Frankie did, you can always call a toad-removal company like @bufobusters to help you out.
We’ll be sharing ways to toad-proof your yard in the coming days. You can also read our blog post in our linktree for more info on Bufo toads and how to deter them from your yard. For humans—don’t lick the toads and you’ll be fine. Just wash your hands very thoroughly after handling.

☀️🐶Heat stroke in dogs is a severe medical emergency that can be fatal if not treated immediately. 😔 Miami’s weather makes this a huge issue for all dogs, which is why we train our dog walkers in prevention. Please read, save, and share with your fellow pet parents now that it’s getting hot!
𝐂𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐝𝐨𝐠𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞:
☀️Being left in a hot car, even with windows down
☀️Exercising in hot weather without breaks, shade, or water
☀️Being exposed to direct sunlight for an extended period of time
☀️Being left outdoors without water/not drinking enough water
☀️Having a medical condition that makes it difficult to regulate body temperature
☀️Short-nosed breeds, seniors, puppies, and darker dogs are more susceptible to heat stroke.
𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐝𝐨𝐠𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞:
❗️Uncontrollable panting
❗️Foaming
❗️Glazed eyes
❗️Bright red gums
❗️Vomiting
❗️Diarrhea
❗️Loss of coordination
❗️Seizures
❗️Collapse
If you see any of these signs, you need to act quickly to cool your pet down and take them to the vet immediately. Your ultimate goal is to cool them down on the way to your veterinarian.
S𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐝𝐨𝐠 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧:
✅Get them out of the heat and into a cool, well-ventilated place.
✅Cool your pet down with whatever you have available. A hose works great, as does putting them in the shallow end of your pool. Never use ice.
✅Give them water if they can drink- no ice.
✅Get them into a car with AC until they’re at the vet.

Happy National Hug Your Dog Day! Remember, not every dog wants a hug today, and they will tell you very clearly with their body language whether they want those kinds of snuggles or if they need space. Most dogs probably don’t like hugs and will only tolerate them if they’ve been socialized to tolerate them.
George is giving enthusiastic consent to Frankie’s cuddles, but he’s on the ground, is free to walk away, and isn’t being embraced completely or immobilized. And as soon as he wants to stop, she’ll respect his personal space. Yes, consent is an important concept with our pups, too!
Some signs your dog doesn’t like hugs include:
🙅🏽♀️Pinning their ears back
🙅🏽♀️Licking their lips (licking at the air)
🙅🏽♀️Yawning
🙅🏽♀️Whale eye
🙅🏽♀️Pushing away from you or showing any discomfort.
And that’s totally OK! You can give them treats, quality time with play or a walk, scratchies where they like, and give them pets on their booties or wherever you know they respond well. They are not little primates, and we can’t expect all of them to love hugs the way some of us do. Finally, never let children hug strange dogs and always supervise them with your pups. 💚

Join us at Whisk Gourmet in SOMI with Happy with Dogs for our AKC Fit Dog Walk and Yappy Hour on Thursday, February 8, 2024!
Happy with Dogs, an AKC Fit Dog Club, will lead an 𝐀𝐊𝐂 𝐅𝐢𝐭 𝐃𝐨𝐠 𝗪𝐚𝐥𝐤 on February 8th for us. We’ll walk and practice tricks and games instead if we determine it is too hot for a walk. Interested in earning AKC Fit Dog Titles? Happy with Dogs will teach you how at the event! This is rain or shine.
How it works:
We’ll meet in front of Whisk at 6 p.m., take a stroll, or practice tricks for treats and games, depending on the weather. We’ll come back to Whisk for delicious dinner and drinks. In general, the AKC Fit Dog Walk will be 1 mile. We can walk as slowly as needed; special needs dogs can walk shorter distances with veterinarian approval. Best of all, this walk can count towards your AKC Fit dog titles! The walk is free, as always.
Safety First: Let’s remain on one side of the street or sidewalk when we walk to keep our dogs safe, and please bring water for your pups! Please let us know if your dogs have special needs or prefer to stay away from certain kinds of dogs, etc.
