We’re working on a very large colony.
Lots of young cats, unfortunately.
Several of them are proving friendly enough for foster. If you’ve ever thought about fostering now is the time! 😺😸🙀
We would rather not put them back outside.

We got so many requests for this fundraiser. 😹
So here it is! For a $20 donation we will *snip snip* a feral cat and name it after your ex, boss, mortal enemy, etc. First names only please.

What better way to plot your vengeance than snipping cats and keeping kittens from being born on the streets!

The RULES:
1. Donate on this post.
2. Comment below with the name.

We will add that name to our soon to be TNR’d cats and share of picture of said cat with you once snipped.

📢 PLEASE NOTE: It may take up to 3 weeks to get notice of your snipped cat as we are a small rescue and only allowed a few spay/neuter appts each week.

ADDED BONUS: Message us with your e-mail address and we will send you a free downloadable Valentine’s Day Card designed by local artist and cat friend Megan Lynn Kott. ❤️

Do you feed colony cats?

Managing your colony according to guidelines becomes more important in the wake of avian flu.

Here’s a great guide on best practices - like never feeding at night (to prevent distemper).
But also feeding on a schedule so your cats can eat at a certain time and not leave behind snacks for birds.

We know there is a lot of concern at the moment but rest assured the jump from animal to human is extremely rare. However, avian flu is deadly for cats. Keeping your colony cats and resident cats safe is important at this time. Wash your hands, clean surfaces, and most definitely, if you feed birds, feed as far away from your colony cats as possible.
You may even consider removing your shoes when you enter your home and keeping them in a separate space. Taking extra precautions is in the best interest of our feline friends.

Could you use some kitten snuggles? Become a foster with Familiars Foster Network & Rescue!

‼️NOW RECRUITING KITTEN FOSTERS FOR OUR 2025 SEASON-NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED‼️

Do you want to be part of a supportive and knowledgeable network of lifesaving kitten fosters? Look no further! Familiars Foster Network & Rescue wants YOU!

We are especially looking for fosters interested in bottle baby kittens or pregnant/nursing moms (feral or social, based on your comfort level).

Kitten season is just around the corner and we plan to really dive into our mission of saving the tiniest of lives. While we still plan to help out wherever we can (weaned kittens, small animals, hissy/spitties), we specialize in the care of neonatal kittens and pregnant or nursing cats.

We hope to relieve some of the pressure from high intake animal shelters in our area by providing placement for these sensitive populations that will not thrive in a typical shelter environment. We can't do this without YOU!

Help needed! 🐾
Sending out the paw signal.

This weekend we got a report of a very sick colony cat named New Kidz that was having trouble walking and didn’t show up to eat.

Our trapper Pam went to go check him out and found him curled up in a Kitty Tube shelter with no desire to run when we opened the tube.

He is malnourished and struggling. You can see he looks rough. Upon rushing him in for emergency care the vet recommended euthanasia. But he was recently healthy when we checked in with the caretaker and we needed more answers than just him looking rough. Plus he ate in the trap, which showed he had some fight left.

Upon getting the blood test results the vet was shocked to find his numbers looked good. So, we’re not exactly sure what is going on but he is so weak at the moment that the vet didn’t want to put him through further testing until he gains weight and gets stronger.

He is currently staying with Pam in kennel and getting all the TLC and food and warmth he needs to gain strength. Then he’ll be going back in for tests.

He had 3 HydraCare packets the first night, which is great. We could always use more if anyone is able to donate:

Essentially, his emergency vet visit bill was hefty and his upcoming tests will be too, so if anyone has it in their heart to help this little fella fight we would very much appreciate it. 🫶

Here are some great DIY outdoor shelter ideas:
https://www.alleycat.org/resources/feral-cat-shelter-options-gallery/

If you would rather buy one, here is a great affordable option, though you do have to assemble it yourself. You always want to look for a shelter that is insulated.

Here is a top tier shelter that is well insulated and ready to go - no assembly required, but a bit pricey:
