Trainer Kait (w/ her dog Sig) helping Rico and his owner, Brad navigate distractions. Rico is an extremely nervous pup who feels more comfortable reacting in a negative manner to help himself feel safe. Kait has helped Brad recondition their relationship and showcase its more important to focus on dad than the external distractions. 💪💪
Post up. When the decoy tells you that this is what he means. Wrap the lead around your back and hold the lead with both hands. The dogs gains NO real estate and you are a POST.
I think that doesn’t get explained sometimes and I’ll watch dogs drag the handler around and allow them to bite the decoy before they should. It’s important to keep the decoy not only safe but let them accomplish their task according to their timing.
This was from the K9s United seminar last year.

What a great week to be great! The 69 MP DET (MWD) just wrapped up its week long certification for 5 of our dog teams. We are happy to announce that FORSCOM and the 89TH MP BDE have 5 new certified teams as the kennels went 5 for 5 during certification.
The teams that certified from left to right are:
SPC Denison and MWD Roli
SPC Maturino and MWD Tyson
SGT Turrubiartes and MWD Laska
PFC Xiong and MWD Thor
SSG Sheriff and MWD Dina
The top dog team was earned by SGT Turrubiartes and MWD Laska who went 100% in all tasks with no reshoots and showed a consistent level of maturity and reliability.
Special mentions go to the following:
PFC Xiong who arrived to Fort Carson in April straight out of Lackland and picked up MWD Thor who is a “green” dog straight from Lackland. PFC Xiong was able to train Thor to the Army Certification standard in. 60 day time period which is unheard of for a PFC on a brand new dog. This team has a lot of potential and promise.
SPC Maturino picked up Tyson just over a month ago due to a dog disposition and was able to exceed the Army Certification standard in less than 45 days.
Great job teams!
No better job.

Let's talk about this photo. It's cute, except it's not. I see a dog who cannot get up without telling the child to get off. How do you think a dog is going to do that?
The 7 Golden Toddler Dog Rules:
#1: If a dog walks away from you, you DO NOT FOLLOW.
#2: Always leave room for the dog to walk away from you.
---that right there is 90+% of dog bites eliminated---
#3: We do not climb on the dog.
#4: We do not grab or pull on the dog.
#5: We do not hit or throw anything at the dog.
#6: We do not touch the dog's food.
#7: We do not go into the dog's kennel.
I promise these are not overly difficult concepts for littles, nor will they rob a kid of their bond with the family dog. It will deepen that bond, while keeping everyone safe.
"Oh, it looks like Moose is walking away from you. She is saying she wants a break. Let's play with this instead!"
"It's Moose's dinner time! Let's give her space to enjoy her yummies."
"That is Moose's room(kennel) and only she is allowed to go in there."
"If Moose wanted a break, could she walk away from you right now? No she really couldn't. Let's move away from the play house. You can keep playing but now she can leave when she wants a break."
In conclusion, ***parent your child or your dog will do it for you, and you will not like how they do it.***
And just like that, it’s over. Over the course of four days these airmen made dramatic improvements in reading dog behavior and manipulating drives towards an end goal. I’m extremely appreciative to have been able to instruct these folks, see old face and make new friends. Stay safe. Two pictures because someone had to go to the commissary for food so he photoshopped himself in. 😂😂

Stay safe boys! 💪💪
Today the 69 said our goodbyes to PFC Lans and MWD Usgyi. This team is headed off to provided MWD support for an overseas assignment. We wish Lans and Usgyi nothing but best wishes and luck as they move into this next chapter of their careers.
Day 2 has these guys putting the pieces together and adding incremental pressure while reading the dog’s behaviors. Gaining an understanding of when you apply and remove said pressure based upon the behavior of the dog. Well done!
Day 1 done of our seminar for Peterson Space Force Base Security Forces. Some old face and some new, but this group of folks is eager to learn and grow. This is a damn good group and I’m liking the enthusiasm they put into the work.
There was a local Protection Sports Association Trial, in which dog sport enthusiasts from all over the country came to compete in advanced obedience and bite work scenarios in various degrees of difficulty. While nobody from MarathonK9 competed, i was there coaching a member of my competition team and trainer Sofia was out there stewarding the trial for her competition team that was hosting the trial. Learning all facets of the dog world helps to set us apart from others.
Happy National Best Friends Day!
Today, we celebrate the incredible bond between our K-9 officers and their handlers at the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. This partnership is built on trust, loyalty, and unwavering support. Together, they protect and serve our community with courage and dedication.
Let's give a shoutout to these dynamic duos who show us the true meaning of friendship every day.

George is an avid outdoorsman. Being the son of the founder of @burtonsnowboards you’d definitely expect so. Getting his new puppy to be comfortable with the adaptive wheelchair is imperative as they will continue to be on the go, despite the setback of injury. It is up to us to provide exceptional service for all our clients, but I’m more than happy to help this gentleman have a well-rounded puppy.
I spend a lot of time in the bite suit. Add to that, I compete heavily in Brazilian jiu jitsu. At 34 years old, Thst takes a heavy toll on the body. Recently I was injured fairly moderately a few weeks ago in a super match that had some ligaments in my knee partially tear and in my ankle fully tear. We spend a lot of time working strength and conditioning of the muscle as wel as developing technique and skill for our crafts. But what about joint strength? The foundation and structure, underneath the muscle. After my leg injury, I got to work on rehabbing it as progressively as I could, but I couldn’t just band-aid it. Enter @forces_of_fitness helping me develop strength and mobility of the joint to literally unlock full potential and range of motion to help me become the total package. Working on what others neglect to give me the advantage. Thanks Joe, who also happens to be one of my teammates at @onyx_jiujitsu for the insight and helping me come back stronger. 🤙🏾
Shape it. Don’t force it. Leash pressure can come later but showing Maverick (orange collar puppy from Atlas x Nyx litter from Veritas Kennels) how to earn his kibble has been fruitful. We see clients once a week for an hour. The rest of the week it’s up to them to continue to build on what they learned in their lesson. Maverick is turning into an incredible companion for his owner and I’m super happy for them. There’s one male left waiting for his home as a buyer backed out.
The perfect doberman doesn’t exi- ….!!! Vengeance is developing really nicely and his owner Tina, a @bartandmichaelbellon NePoPo Silver school graduate, has been putting in the work with him daily on his obedience while we shape up his bitework for PSA competition with Rocky Mountain PSA Club. I love the effort this dog gives. And the energy his owner gives off is just as electric.
Working to keep K9 Torro of Rogers PD calm while learning a nice clean out. Flooding him with longer bites to build drive satisfaction before asking for it. Satisfied doggo let’s go nice and clean. Then slowly backing down duration and increasing frequency of reward. Nice dog. Picks up on things quickly.
Bark and hold session with PPD Jary. This dude is a really nice dog. Stupid social and gives maximum effort in everything he does.
One of our competition team members made this montage and I’ve gotta say these guys are putting in the work. Proud to lead the folks at Rocky Mountain PSA Club
Consistency equates to progress. While it may not be linear, you generally find yourself chipping away to meet your end goal. Torvi is a young Mal who when she first came out gave shallow pulling grips and was a little nervous but with consistency and reps and rewarding solid counters she’s made awesome progress. I would also state that allowing her to learn to explore through free shaping bolstered confidence in her as well. As well as her threshold for verbal and physical pressure increasing. Last night was her first transition to a suit from a leg sleeve and she nailed it. @cee_koz_go continues to work her at home on various obedience activities to constantly work towards the day she sees the trial field, more than likely in the middle to end of next season. @blanco_belgians
Muzzle fighting on the docket this morning at the K9/SWAT integration seminar with Michael Goosby of LAPD. Lot of hard hitting dogs. K9 Link will always be one of my favorites. I. Am. Sore.
I love this dog! SARDOG In Training Quinn learning directionals. She has a threshold for distance that we are working to not just break through but shatter.
Spent some time out working with Shelby PD and Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office last night, thanks to the gracious hosting of Howard Young. Excellent dogs last night including, Howard’s personal dog, the behemoth below. Problem solving and building dogs is what we do and we love it. 💪🏾💪🏾
