Lost Pet Services: Giving Hope, Saving Lives

More Than Just Lost and Found

Lost Pet Services (LPS) started as a Facebook group, "Lost and Found Pets 941," after the founder, Patty Giarrusso, experienced the heartbreak of losing her beloved dogs, Jackson Browne and Rocko. Thankfully, they were found, but that experience ignited a mission: to reunite families with their lost pets. Growing to Serv

e a Community

Today, LPS is the largest, most active lost and found organization in Manatee, Sarasota, and Charlotte Counties. Our Facebook group has over 53,000 members, growing steadily, and we've successfully reunited thousands of pets with their families. The Medical Assistance Program “There’s No Place Like Home” and PAWS Project (Partners for Animal Welfare) offer a safety net for pets and pet owners in need. A small sampling of the hundreds of our recipients of giving can be seen on our website. https://www.lostfoundpets941.com/recipientsofgiving and paws-project.org. We provide:

• Financial aid for medical care: We help families avoid the agonizing decision of surrendering or euthanizing a pet due to financial constraints.
• Adoption and foster care: We find loving homes for lost strays and surrendered pets.
• Veterinary services: We provide financial assistance for critical/emergency medical care and routine/preventative care, ensuring owned pets receive the care they need, from emergencies to sick visits.
• Safety-net resources: We offer comprehensive support to prevent pet surrenders, including essential supplies (food, litter, bedding), pet equipment (collars/leashes, crates, gates), financial assistance (rental deposits, shelter fees), and temporary boarding and behavioral training.
• Lost pet recovery services: We assist in reuniting lost pets with their families.
• Free resources: We provide microchips, ID tags, microchip scanners, and educational materials to promote pet safety and responsible ownership. Saving Lives, One Pet at a Time

Since 2018, LPS has:

• Granted over $240,000 in medical financial aid to pets in need.
• Helped reunite over 28,000 pets with their families.
• Been honored to receive the Small Business of the Year – Nonprofit Category 2022 from the Manatee Chamber

Our Mission: Keeping Pets and Those Who Love Them Together

LPS strives to keep loved pets out of shelters and in their homes, preventing families from enduring the devastating loss of a companion due to financial hardship. Community Supported, Community Driven

LPS is entirely reliant on donations, grants, and fundraising. We receive no government funding. Your support allows us to continue caring for our community's sick, injured, and abandoned pets. Join the Movement

We are committed to preventing surrender or economic euthanasia by providing financial assistance to ensure companion pets live their fullest lives happy, healthy, and at home with those who love them. Together, we can give hope and save more lives. LOST PET SERVICES, INC. 🐾 Jelly Roll Needs Our Help 🙏❤️

Jelly Roll is a small bully breed that was found wandering the streets of Bradenton and was never claimed. (His post was ID # 20767)

Unfortunately, he is suffering from a pr*****ed urethra, which the vet believes is a result of being overbred. This painful condition requires a delicate surgery that will be performed this Tuesday by Dr. Rose at the Veterinary Surgery Center of Sarasota.

This sweet boy is still young and has a long life ahead of him; he truly deserves the chance for a normal life. He will also be neutered at the same time.

We have launched this campaign to raise $2,000 to help cover Jelly Roll's surgery costs.

Please consider helping in any way you can. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference! Thank you for your generous gift!

SCAM ALERT: LOST PET SCAMS! While this scam hasn't been reported to BPD yet, it's only a matter of time - and we want you to be aware of it. This one targets the families of missing pets. Scammers troll missing pet flyers or social media pages, then contact the pet's owner pretending to be with animal services. They claim lost pets are injured and demand money for urgent medical needs. Scammers also impersonate officers claiming to have found someone's pet.
How to spot red flags in this scam:
🚩 They say they have your pet but can’t provide photos, or provide an edited version of a picture you've used on a flyer or missing-pet website
🚩 They make threats regarding your pet
🚩 They make excuses about why you can't see your pet in person or in photos
🚩 They ask for money or personal information
🚩 You receive a text about your pet, and request that you send a code to "verify your identity"

Gulf Shore Animal League offers free spay/neuter service for free-roaming cats in Manatee County, Florida. Thanks to a grant provided by Florida Animal Friend, fees for spay/neuter for free-roaming cats are completely waived while funding lasts.

Left unfixed, free-roaming cat populations quickly grow out of control. Spaying and neutering free-roaming cats and returning them to their outdoor home is a humane and effective way to reduce the free-roaming cat population. In addition to being sterilized cats going through our TNR program also receive FVRCP and rabies vaccines, and are ear tipped. An ear tip indicates that a cat has been spayed or neutered.

Charlie is looking for a temporary foster or adopter.
Charlie was a found dog. He's young. Approx. 14 lbs. The vet says he is a Havanese mix.
He is good with other dogs and has been around children but is currently not in a home with small children. He does chase the current foster's cat around but not aggressively.
Currently he is in Sarasota with the woman who found him.

🎇🎊 Make a pledge to keep your pets safe this 4th of July holiday!

🚨 Fireworks will be lighting up the skies for multiple days, and our pets will be frightened and might make a break for it! 🐾💨 Unfortunately, every year we see too many pets get injured or worse, killed by cars while trying to escape the loud noises. 🚗😔

Let's do everything possible to keep our pets safe and sound this holiday! 🐾💕 Here are some tips to help you keep your pets safe:

1. 🏠 Keep your pets indoors and away from windows and doors to prevent them from bolting out of the house.
2. 🏡 Provide a safe space for your pets to retreat to, like a crate or a quiet room.
3. 🎧 Keep the TV or radio on to help mask the sounds of the fireworks.
4. 👀 Supervise your pets at all times, especially during fireworks displays.
5. 🚪 Avoid taking your pets to public areas where fireworks are set off.

Let's make sure our furry friends have a happy and safe 4th of July! 🎉💕 Share these tips with your friends and family to help spread the word! 💬

Little Remy was found on the side of the road in a rural part of Myakka. She appeared to have recently given birth but after a thorough search, no puppies were located.

Remy was extremely thin and very frightened but eventually, Karen was able to gain her trust. She was exhibiting signs of an infection so our vet partner at Ranch Animal Hospital got her right in for an appointment.

Remy had an infected uterus, and if it had gone untreated longer, she might have needed surgery. She received vaccinations and was treated for worms and her infection. In 30 days, she will be spayed to prevent this trauma from happening again.

Meet Nora. Nora was in need of a blood transfusion shortly after she was adopted due to being infested with worms. The Veterinary Medical Center at LWR was able to provide the blood transfusion. Yesterday, we took further care of Nora making sure she had all her vaccinations, she was spayed and again checked for worms.

She's on the road to recovery now. Thanks to the generous grant from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County to Lost Pet Services and Whiskers and Wags Foundation Inc. PAWs Project.

This week we were able to help Luna who needed emergency surgery after ingesting a foreign body. By the time she arrived at the ER, she was extremely sick and her prognosis was not the best.

Thanks to a referral to Luna's owner to contact Patty, Lost Pet Services, Whiskers and Wags Foundation Inc. and the Veterinary Medical Center at LWR worked together to help save Luna.

The PAWs Project was able to assist thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. Helping keep pets and people together is always our mission.

Doggy Dementia is Real
Never leave senior dogs outside to potty alone.

Common statements like "they never go anywhere" or "they always come back" can be dangerously misleading. Senior dogs with dementia can easily become disoriented, get turned around, and head in the wrong direction, often getting lost.

Sadly, we've seen many senior dogs lost this way, never to be found or worse, drown in nearby ponds, canals, and other water sources. They seem instinctively drawn to water, fall in, and cannot get out.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES LET SENIOR DOGS OUTSIDE TO POTTY ALONE. Keep them leashed or keep a close eye on them. Put your cell phones down and watch them carefully—they depend on you.

If you have senior neighbors with senior dogs, consider helping them with tie-outs to prevent their dogs from wandering off.

It's heartbreaking for senior dogs to become lost and end up hit by cars or drowned due to doggy dementia.

Happy Memorial Day. Be safe and remember to honor those who have fallen for our freedom.

Please keep your pets safe. Follow these simple tips:
➡ Be sure they are wearing their ID tags today (and every day)
➡ If you have guests over, remind them to keep the gate closed at all times if your pet has access to a fenced-in area.
➡ Be extra careful at the door when guests arrive.
➡ Never, ever leave your pet in a hot car.

If you find a pet, take it to the nearest ER vet to be scanned for a microchip. If your pet is lost or you've found one, please fill in our Lost Pet Report as soon as possible and make a post here with nearest cross streets last seen,and/or landmark, town, zip and contact info. All this information is necessary to have a speedy reunion.

💕 Nora's Story

Nora came to us as a referral from our friends at Bayshore Animal Hospital. She was so anemic from parasites that she needed a blood transfusion at the Veterinary Medical Center at LWR.

Poor Nora is just a puppy and hasn't had any vaccinations. While it’s upsetting when pets suffer due to lack of vet care, we’re committed to helping them no matter what.

Please understand, that getting a "free" puppy or one from a backyard breeder without vaccinations is not a good idea. Recently, we’ve also seen too many cases of parvo. Saving a dog from parvo can cost thousands of dollars, all because they weren’t vaccinated.

Our local humane societies and the Animal Rescue Coalition offer discounted vaccinations and spay/neuter services. We can't stress enough how crucial vaccinations are for your pets' health. Nora could have died simply because she didn't get the vet care she needed as a puppy. Let's make sure every pet gets the care they deserve.

Lost Pet Services' PAWs Project will be paying for Nora's spay, additional deworming (if necessary), vaccinations and microchip as soon as she is recovered.

Spread the word. Share this post. Let Nora's tale inspire others. When we come together, miracles happen, giving pets a second chance like Nora. 🐾✨

The PAWs Project helps pets like Nora and also helps with basic vet care through our "No Place Like Home" medical assistance program.
