We just wanted to take a moment to address some things quickly. We have had our owner surrender forms closed since October. We have zero open fosters. When we do have open fosters, we have none without other animals. We have very few without children. This means we can not take in any animal that has bitten a person. We will never put our foster homes in physical danger.
We currently have over 25 dogs in our care who are either not even ready to be or are not yet healthy enough to be listed as available. So just because you don’t see them on our website or our fb page, doesn’t mean that we don’t have a ton of dogs already in fosters working their way to being able to be adopted. We also are only legally allowed to take in 150 dogs a year with our current kennel license. We have taken in 139. Those last 11 spots will stay open unless there is a humane case or urgent case brought to our attention and we are able to somehow find a foster to help.
We can not take in owner surrenders. We can not take in any dogs at this time. We have a dog in critical care at CP vets who may have a bill of up to 7500. We have an 8,000+ bill at our normal vet. We do not have the financial capability to take in every dog.
We do not receive anywhere near the amount of donations—physical or monetarily, that a normal brick and mortar shelter receives, or even a brick and mortar rescue.
At this time, we ask to please do not refer people to ask us to take any dogs, to help rehome their own, etc. We simply can’t. We are drowning with all we currently have to do. Every single one of us is a volunteer. We do all of this because our hearts were called to help.
We need your patience, your grace. We would love to help everyone but we have limitations. Every one does.
If you are able to foster, we need you. Fosters must live close enough to our vet (Bedford/everett) to be able to take them to appts. If you would like to send items, we have wishlists on both Amazon and chewy. If you would like to send help with vet costs, we have options, or you can even call the clinics outright. Everything helps.

Update on Elara. Her bloodwork was completed and her white blood cell count was basically zero (0.11) Which means her body is fighting much harder than it can keep up with. She is in isolation, has had a nasogastric feeding tube placed to provide her some sustenance. She has received the new parvovirus monoclonal antibody treatment. She is on antibiotics, anti-nausea medications and IV fluids. Her glucose is being monitored as puppies already have a hard time regulating their sugar levels, but especially so when they are sick. She is having continued diarrhea. She is maintaining her body temperature though, so that is an upside.
This video was taken while she was waiting to be admitted. The estimate of care is a minimum of 3 days of hospitalization in the critical care unit. Depending on how she responds, it could be up to 7. There is also no guarantee she will be able to fight off the virus, but she is being given the absolute best chance she can be. The estimate of the cost of her care is in the comments below. We have had a total of $360 sent towards her care, including a $100 donation given directly to CPVets (this is an option if you would like to do so). Any amount is so very appreciated, and will help us, help her fight and hopefully be able to give her a chance at the fullest life she could ever dream of.

Ravenna said if Cheech proclaimed it adoption day, so be it! She was doing it too!
Ravenna joined us about two months ago and we quickly learned she was a shy gal who would take time and patience to open up. She’s done beautifully. She’s got her last vaccine booster for canine influenza to go and her spay surgery, but she’ll have those done in the comfort of her very own home with her very own family.
We are so thankful to her family for choosing to open their home and hearts and adopting this Angel in need. Ravenna has amazingly wonderful parents, and two fur brothers to spend her days enjoying life with. We wish all of them as much love, joy and laughter that can fill their hearts.
Happiest tails beautiful girl! You are so very loved ❤️

Cheech decided Sunday should be adoption day….
And so it was!
Cheech was recently returned to the rescue due to a family medical issue, no fault of his own. He went right back to his former foster home where he settled in as if he never left! We are so, so thankful for his foster for not only opening their home the first time for him, but for offering him the familiarity and safety a second time so he didn’t feel as displaced. He was due for his vaccines again, so we got all of that updated and did his yearly 4DX test and then it was time for a forever him. A Forever forever.
We are so grateful to Cheech’s new family for choosing to open their home and hearts and adopting this Angel in need. Cheech has a wonderful new mom and dad, and also a grandpa he’ll see often who has a fur friend for him to play with. We wish all of you the absolute most joy, laughter, and love that this life can bring you.
Happy tails, handsome boy. You are so very loved❤️

There are some dogs that stay with us for far too long, and we really don’t know why. Patricia is one of those. She has been with us for over 2 years. She has been waiting so very patiently. She does need to be the Queen of her castle (no kids or other dogs- laid back kitties are fine), but she is so deserving of her future mom or dad or both.
Otherwise, she is perfection. She is the embodiment of the word love. She is fully crate and house trained. She is highly food motivated and easy to train. She knows sit, paw, other paw, and down. She loves to cuddle. She would be a blessing to any home willing to open their doors to her and only her. We just need to find them ❤️

Diem is enjoying a lazy Sunday, consisting of stuffies, naps, football, and cuddles. Sounds pretty much perfect, right?
Close to perfect, but what would make it totally perfect is if she could enjoy those things with a family of her own. While she is extremely loved by her foster family, she deserves a chance at forever. She is the most sweet soul who wants nothing more than to love you. We know her mom or dad is out there. Maybe it’s you?

Astrid’s babies are 3 weeks old today, and have grown a whole latte, so it was time for some pictures! And mama herself wanted her mugshot taken as she fully claims responsibility for her actions.
We are not accepting applications or pre-approvals for this family. We do not accept applications for puppies until after their first vaccine appointment and they have been cleared by a veterinarian. They also will not be eligible to go to new homes until they have received two sets of vaccines.

Considering a friend for your current fur baby? Consider Ori! He was once feral and prefers a home with another dog to help him feel safe (think: emotional support fur sibling 😉). He will also need a fenced in yard, and hoomans with patience to allow him to become comfortable in the home. He hopes to find them soon!

Britty had a wonderful time meeting so many people at the Joey's PAW Paws for a Cause last evening. She even got to meet our former angels Magnolia & Marigold (who were tickled to see each other again), and of course, Joeys ambassador Boone!
Joeys PAW has been an asset to so many animals around the country, providing much needed wheels and prosthetics to get everything from turkeys to horses on their feet and mobile again! They have helped us with several dogs throughout the years.
Each year Joey’s PAW holds an annual holiday fundraiser to raise much needed funds for animals who need prosthetics and wheelchairs. And we have been so blessed that during their fundraisers, they continually think of others and also collect physical donations for our Angels. They collected two car loads full of paper towels, blankets and some toys for our kids! We are so thankful and blessed for their generous hearts.
And we’re also thankful that this event was able to reunite our former twins and that we got to see them!

We were honored and so blessed to receive the most perfect washer and dryer set earlier this year from Martin Appliance and Speed Queen Home Laundry after being nominated by one of their amazing employees, Ryan Swope. We are truly so very thankful for their contribution and generosity and have put both to good use!

Jilly.
Little Jilly is a very special pup who is awaiting an equally special person who is willing and dedicated to caring for her. Jilly is quite simply amazing. She is affectionate, happy, and deserves so much love. She is a confident little girl who loves everyone she meets. Jilly does have a condition called Mega Esophagus, which means that she was born with an enlarged esophagus that doesn’t carry food to her stomach properly. Because of this, she has to eat upright in a Bailey chair at every meal, and remain upright for 20-30 minutes after eating so gravity can help her food reach her stomach. This will be lifelong. Her food has to be mixed with water so that it can travel down her esophagus easily. Aside from her throat not working right, she is perfectly healthy.
Jilly will need a dedicated person or family who is familiar with her condition, or one who is willing to learn. Taking care of her is pretty easy, it just requires some extra mealtime snuggling. We will offer support, continued education and work with her family to ensure her and their success.
She would be fine as an only dog, with a tolerant dog, she had a great deal of sass—which is probably why she’s flourished so well—and she does fine with cats. She is just under 20 lbs, is a year old and is likely a doxy mix of some sort.
This sweet girl is an original. A one-of-a-kind. And while we know her forever home will need to be as special as her, we know they are out there. And we are hoping you can help share her posts so they can find her.

Vanellope is working hard on her commands for her forever family! She has also learned “off” and “wait.”
She’s a very smart cookie and is astounded she’s had no one apply to make her the love of their life.

We want to say the most enormous thank you! To every single person who came out today for Bingo! Your support is overwhelming!
We have never had this type of event, and did not plan this one. This particular fundraiser was held for us by an individual who wanted to help, and Missy Owens did an amazing job for the task at hand and that was ahead of her. We had no idea what to expect, especially with such a short time frame of planning the event. But what happened was unprecedented.
The doors opened at 1…. And yet People were lined up at noon. We had 200 seats filled by 1:10. We scrambled to find extra seats, and by 1:20, 235 seats were sold and filled…. Leaving no room and no chair empty in the ballroom. We are utterly blown away by the support, the kindness and the generosity of this community.
We know some people were upset they couldn’t get in, and for that we apologize, but we had no way to predict the turnout and outcome that ensued from all of your beautiful hearts. We did our best to accommodate, but unfortunately couldn’t fit everyone. However, every single person was there to help the dogs, and that’s exactly what happened so we can’t say we aren’t thankful that so many of you with such generous hearts came out to show your support.
The elks has asked us to do this as a quarterly event. So moving forward we will tweak and perfect the attendance, we will have more food options, and we will work out the bugs. But we all have to start somewhere, and we’re so grateful to all of you for setting the bar high and raising so much for our kids.
We will post the total amount raised once we get a check from the Elks for the rip off tickets, as well as photos of our volunteers who did the best job and surpassed anything we could’ve asked of them; and all of the sponsors who made this possible. As of now though, just with the attendance and 50/50, there was just over 8,000 raised for our dogs.
Our words of thanks and gratitude simply are not enou

Abigail Marie
Abby was rescued from a local shelter in September, 2008 at 2 years old. She was beaten, used as a puppy maker and abandoned, tied to a shelter fence on a cold Pennsylvania night. She went on to live with her adoptive mom for the next 9 years and 8 months, bringing joy and leaving happiness where ever her four paws took her.
Abby gained a four legged brother, Bentley, in 2012 and loved him more than anyone else. 2014 brought a four legged sister, Prada, who was rescued from New York after being poisoned and developing pyometra. Early in 2015, a hospice foster entered our home and began our passion for hospice fostering. Frenchie, a 2 year old Staffordshire Terrier, had a balloon valvuloplasty surgery to help h8eal his malfunctioning heart. Frenchie had tricuspid dysplasia, pulmonary stenosis and congestive heart failure. The valvuloplasty afforded him 14 months with us and Abby, before he passed on February 28, 2016.
In 2015, Abby was diagnosed with Mast Cell Cancer. She underwent surgery to remove four masses. After a successful surgery and recovery, she beat cancer. Her “I beat cancer” photo was shared on Facebook and went viral. We were contacted by the Dodo for an interview and she was featured as an article on their website.
In 2017, Quinn, another hospice addition, came to live with us. Quinn had a severely malignant diagnosis of Mast Cell Cancer. She had surgery on her back leg in February to remove a huge tumor and was given a grim diagnosis of maybe 3 months. She arrived in March and in June had emergency surgery for pyometra. During her surgery, a mass was found in her spleen. It was biopsied and was not cancerous as had been thought, and her prognosis was thought to be better than anticipated. We had aspirations done of a few bumps on her head and body in July, and unfortunately the cancer had become even more vicious. We planned for surgery to remove the sites, but they just kept spreading rapidly. We lost Quinn on August 6.
Throughout all of the fosters, temporary stays and new additions, Abby loved and accepted every single being who stepped over our threshold. She viewed life as a playground filled with love and happiness and did her best to brighten the lives of all she met.
In April, 2018, Abby had a devastating seizure that lasted over 20 minutes. She lost her ability to see and hear for over 4 hours. She was in a panic and nothing we could do could help her. We rushed her to our vet who gave her medicine to help her. We were afraid that after such a long seizure, her brain would be affected. She came home the next day and was more or less back to herself for a few days. A week later, she had another seizure. We started her on phenobarbital in hopes that we could get ahead of the attacks and improve her quality of life. She improved for a few weeks and then again we lost ground. She lost the ability to control her movements, her appetite was sporadic and she lost her sense of self. She could never get comfortable and whined constantly, not knowing if she had to go outside, was hungry, wanted to sleep or wanted to be held. We did all we could to comfort her and help her, but felt helpless.
On May 24, we woke up in the morning to her having extreme vomiting and diarrhea. She could not even lift her head. We cleaned her up, made her comfortable and gave her pain meds. I left for an hour to get work situated so I could come home and spend the day with her. When I arrived back home, she was laying in her own vomit and diarrhea and could not move. I cleaned her up and laid down beside her. I stroked her head and told her if it was time for us to let her go, it was ok. We would be ok. She would be ok. And that we loved her more than life. She got up, licked my face and went to wait for her leash. We spent the day together doing all the things she loved, seeing the people she loved and making her last day, the best day.
That afternoon, I said goodbye to the best soul I had ever met. That afternoon, I lost most of my heart and most of my own soul. That afternoon, I vowed to live the rest of my life honoring her in the best way I knew how.
This is how I can do that. Saving lives, wanting to make this world a better place for animals, giving them a chance....that is my purpose. That purpose was inspired back in 2008, when I laid eyes on a scrawny, almost hairless, long tongued Boston Terrier-Pit Bull Mix who stole my heart and showed me my life’s passion and my reason for being.
Abby’s Angels Animal Haven is now her legacy. We thank you for reading our backstory, and for all the support. Without people believing in our purpose and donating time and energy as well as monetary and physical donations, we couldn’t fulfill our mission. So thank you. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping us remember our girl the best way we can. Thank you for choosing to help us save as many lives like hers as possible.
